Seo Kang Joon in Talks for Comedic K-drama Undercover High School
Okay, I’m old enough to remember when this very idea was done before and how it rocketed a certain actor to stratospheric heights. Cue Stephen Chow in the eternal classic that is HK-movie Fight Back to School and we all just want to see an elite cop pretending to be a high school student don’t we. Well K-drama will be bringing the idea back with the upcoming Undercover High School with baby-faced Seo Kang Joon in talks for the male lead. Yes, he’s in his 30’s and is supposed to be an adult elite NIS agent forced to go undercover back to high school and comedic hijinks and new friendships form. I bet dollars to donuts he also falls for the resident hottie teacher and a high school popular girl pursues him. Now I’m feeling a rewatch of FBTS calling to me lol.
I know he is a popular actor and have lots of fans…I am one that next seem to warm to him… especially after Cheese in the Trap… That is just myself…no offence to his fans.
But this storyline is fun and interesting…I may not warm to actor but I might change after this drama.
What Stephen Chow? Cue Johnny Depp too!

Johnny Depp 21 Jump Street, when i was young i wasn’t the kind of person to have posters all over the walls . He was the only exception with NKOTB to have his photo framed in my bedroom , next to my bed . He was so charismatic and so handsome ! Kim Sun Ah in “She’s on duty ” was hilarious !
Both are great!!! Love them. Classic!
Also Bollywood (India) made their own version with their biggest star SRK. It became a musical version. It was very entertaining.
Johnny Depp was my first thought. I loved 21 Jump Street back then. Though I think I preferred Booker to him.
Booker, Richard Grieco ! And the BO was a Billy Idol’s song ? It’s official , i’m old !
He’s not “in his 30’s”. He just turned 30. I admit I was disappointed to hear he wasn’t in a darker, more serious drama like “Watcher” but there are only so many roles to go around. He has said he doesn’t want to be cast in romances and wants to challenge himself as an actor. He has never done comedy so this role will further show his versatility. He always picks interesting projects,so while this may sound trite on paper, I have no doubt he will make it unique. I get the feeling this reviewer hasn’t seen his work and is just writing him off as a pretty “babyface”. He’s a rare talent who always brings depth and authenticity to his roles, one of the best actors of his generation. It will be interesting to see what he does with this.
Agree. I loved him in The Third Charm. He is a good actor and I find him quite masculine, not baby faced. Look at that angular jawline.
I hope he hits it big. He is not the type to coast on his looks. He genuinely seems to want to become a good actor.
Hes a 93-liner which makes him 31 this year and 32 when the drama drops so… anyway I am looking forward to this drama as well. SKJ always looks like he walked straight out of a manga so a light hearted drama milking his cool visuals through the roof is promising.
What this obsession of Koreans to put grown-ups in highschool uniform?
I know right? It’s just too much at this point, I can’t see them as high scholers.
But he’s not a real high schooler, he is supposed to be a cop going undercover as a high schooler. They are going to say he had to drop out for a couple of years due to health reasons or something to explain to other students why he looks older and there you have it.
I agree that an actor in his early 20s would have possibly been a more adequate choice, but let’s see how this one will do.
I love him when he is brooding and edgy, oh well…..
