So I first heard this drama adaptation of the novel Cherry Amber two years ago when it was rumored to star Zhao Lu Si with either Wu Lei or Chen Zhe Yuan as the male lead. Since then it’s more of a smaller budget production and this week is back on the casting circuit with news that it’s being offered to Fan Cheng Cheng and Zhao Jin Mai as the leads. Those two both had recently aired C-dramas that weren’t failures but also didn’t catapult either to level up. It really is hard to break out and get buzz so best for younger stars is to keep doing more dramas and hope something sticks.
I thought Zhao Jin Mai’s drama with Wu Lei was a success? No? I don’t know myself, just that I hear quite a lot of buzz about it and clips of them were often thrown into my Instagram feed.
I think it was successful but it wasn’t a massive hit like how love o2o (comparative fluff drama) made the leads idol famous. I really like zjm and think she’s a level headed and natural actress so i hope she pushes herself to do more nuanced roles like she did in “stand by me” instead of idol dramas.
No, it wasn’t. Ratings on TV, the only real measurement that exist that can’t be manipulated, were a dud even if the time to broadcast it was ideal. It ended up around 0.2. oops.
Are tv ratings still really important in China? Isn’t everything online now? Curious cause i don’t know

Anything related to the web is irrelevant. Platforms manipulate both views and heat, and there is additional water (fake views) bought by actors themselves.
There is only one thing left in China that isn’t manipulated and that’s TV ratings. This is why those who have good results hold onto it so tightly. Everyone knows that today it’s the only remaining real data.
Your comment made me searched for their rankings and I didn’t even watch it when it was airing. 😂 The drama peaked at 28,504 heat index. Doesn’t look too bad.

Is heat index even relevant? i would trust total views more than that. Well both can be manipulated but total views comparatively is more difficult. Lots of people does seems to be sucker for AASOL in social media, hence the heat index, but from the total views it’s definitely not a hit

All I seem to see for just about every drama is heat index so whether people like it or not, relevant or not, it’s always going to be there unless they do away with them.

A lot of us follow live ratings and we belong to data groups on Douban that compile records of it. You really need Mandarin unfortunately.
Aasol had rather low ratings, especially for the time year and the television it was shown on. I can’t link things but it’s high (the first episode) of love ratings was 0.2904, it’s lowest 0.2145 with an average of 0.2436 which thanks to the super high coefficient of the station turns into an average CVB of 0.328
So yeah, those are low ratings. Not the worst possible, at least it never dipped under 0.2 but it’s not even close to a hit. Let’s say it passes, barely.

Are tv ratings only for domestic audiences? If so, I wonder if that is why these platforms created their own heat index.

Fan cheng cheng is boring…,no wonder love endures flop,not to mention yang zi and him are severely lacking in looks department at least wu lei and zhao jin mai is absolute eye candy.
As someone who watched both dramas, FCC’s drama is a must watch while ZJM’s a must miss. Highly recommend ppl to watch FCC and YZ’s drama before commenting on ratings or dissing the drama. You don’t know what u missed. It’s a lovely drama with heart, funny and with a beautiful story which many dramas are lacking now.
Personally I felt the drama flat. No doubt for YZ’s acting, FCC also not bad but this only during high school scenes. While acting as adult, it not bearable (for me), I didn’t see FCC acting grow as adult, thus those scenes… I felt YZ had already changed but FCC still stuck as highschooler.
If u didn’t finish the drama then don’t need to comment. Because there was a reason for every scene in the drama. The reveal is in the end.
I watch both,damn both were boring,i can tolerate zhao jin mai and wu lei to the end cause as i said both are easy on the eye..while fan cheng cheng character and his delivery is really boring,i fast forward a lot.
Likewise. If u didn’t finish the drama, then don’t comment. The drama was funny and has bigger impact towards the end. So it’s ur miss if u don’t know how to watch a good drama.
Zhao Jin Mai is really talented actress. Really hope Zhao Jin Mai can get equally better co-stars. Not FCC’s hater, as audience I think FCC’s acting really hasn’t up to par.
To all the ppl dissing on FCC’s acting.. u all don’t know anything if u didn’t watch the drama til the end. I wasn’t sold on his acting as well. And Im not his fan. And I’m saying as someone who is pretty critical about good acting. I cannot stand the likes of Jin Se Yeon, Shin Se Kyung, Hyeri, Suzy and many actors.
Fan Cheng Cheng’s acting is ok. I would even rate it as good! Nuanced enough to satisfy my taste. He isn’t awkward at least. And I don’t feel any age gap between him and Yang Zi, although they are 8yrs apart. And definitely even better than many idol actors like Cha Eun Woo!.
People here never watched FCC’s acting throughout all the dramas and movies he have done so far. They only talk about his physical appearance and clips of 1 minute.
His best acting is not in the drama he did with YZ’s. BTW, Yang Zi was very criticized for her performance in this one too.
FCC is boring. I tried to watch his dramas but dropped it at early episodes. It’s not about being good looking but he just didnt have the ‘male lead’ aura. But wellz different person different preference.
FCC is only around thanks to his connections so it’s a shame such a talented actress gets paid with him. It won’t work and she will have a blank on her hands. Shame.

Why all of them saying FCC is boring and acting is not good enough, I can say that i don’t liked him that much first, I started seeing him in variety shows he is so funny and best for variety shows and I heard he is acting in a drama as male lead( he acted many other movies &dramas but I known him in acting) and I watched half I think he did a good job in the drama love endures I think his real character don’t match his character in drama but he acted too well , he don’t disappointed me not at all, zhao jinmai also a good actress I don’t hate her I also like her, I think they make a good new couple who lot’s of people love, don’t hate them or criticise them they work too hard, I know all have their own opinions but don’t hate them because you don’t know anything about them or their talents
