So modern family, work, and romance C-drama Best Choice Ever has been airing for two weeks and would be considered okay with ratings at best. Leads Yang Zi and Xu Kai are in a group drama that spends more time on family and work stuff so those looking for a romance-centric offering this is not it. I tried but got bored as this isn’t my cup of tea, I actually lasted longer on She and Her Perfect Husband so it’s not judging on quality just on what hooks me. I’ve been checked out for days until this weekend’s new stills showing Yang Zi and Xu Kai adorably kissing and I recognized the scene on sight – it was shot in Shanghai on an open top double decker bus at night as these filming stills were all over the interwebs last year when the two filmed it since there were so many bystanders and passerbys. It was worth jumping back in just to watch the scene in episode 26 and then noping back out lol.
This drama is not very well balanced. It’s too much about the FL and her very exhausting mother and not enough about the ML and his own arc.

XK is not a good kisser onscreen, and not good in acting in modern dramas imo. I watched that scene, the Shanghai scene is beautiful, lots of girls sitting in front of them (maybe fans). YZ is the only one acting and kissing a door knob… lol.

Doing okay at best and it broke the highest heat record for modern drama, Yangzi’s character is the first ever characto reach 90million heat index, topped all the charts during it’s release, breaks 2. Ratings on cctv 8 even when last week was extremely tough bcs of the table tennis tournament and all the spy dramas going on, still first in the rerun early in the morning on cctv continuously breaking 1., Broke 100millions views for 3 consecutive days on kuyun, top with 22% share on yunhe and Koala calls it DOING OKAY AT BEST?

I love this show. Im just a casual viewer who enjoy good story. But seriously, i really love them in this series.
I know, some people probably got exhausted with her mom but i like how YangZi’s character handle the problems. I love how mature she is.
Currently on ep 30 and Xu Kai’s background story hasnt been told much so far but it has started.
It’s basically a family story. With business focused and some romances.

Same here! I’m on ep 28 and that scene where she talks to her mom is like wow, they’re really conversing because usually the problem gets shrugged off. But, the saddest ep still has to be when gma passes away.
I like it for being a slice of life drama and it’s not a bad drama although not great. Also, FL’s mom is super annoying, but yeah whoever is looking for romance should shy away from this as it hardly focuses on that. I’d say it gets good around when she dumps her ex and her mom LOL.

Unlike many of Zi haters here, if I don’t like an actor I won’t even care about him or her and if I see the ratings and more also won’t lie to myself that the drama is flop if it is a real hit.
Her fans are making noises about it for sure and try and push it hard but I feel nor see the same enthousiasm nor activity around it the way hit drama like LYF did last year. It is as if her fans try and prove something with this one here and want to grab people attention about it. I feel it is like “look! Look! It makes numbers!” and people are like “ok whatever! Oh YangZi and XuKai ! Ok whatever”. In the meanWhile with LYF the attention and global hype around it came naturally and organically like one could feel people genuine love for and it worked wonders for the actors linked to it. I don’t feel it will bring more to XuKai career.
It makes numbers for sure but it is like “ok let’s move on”. Nothing memorable nor career changing. So her fans feel the need lately to remind us it is making numbers while people attention are on JOL season 2 and are like “ok make your numbers and move on”. I would even say “In Blossom” had a more organic sucess than “Best Choice ever”. the former mentionned had both the numbers and the organic attention.

Lol who is showing enthousiasm for that show except for YangZi’s fans trying hard and remind everyone it is making numbers ? 🤷♂️ And it doesn’t matter if it is historical or not the thing is drama is forgettable. Once it is done people will be like “goodbye, sayonara with your digits” : No attachment whatsoever.
I’m surprised at how much I am enjoying it. The romance is really very quiet and doesn’t start until the second half of the drama. The best thing about this drama is grandma. She was fabulous and kept me riveted. The actress playing the mother was also very good at portraying the selfish and self-centered parent.
What surprised me most was Xu Kai. His portrayal of a conflicted calculating businessman was very nuanced, as he tried to navigate being kind/nice and yet manipulative at the same time. He could have been judged shallow as a character but his pauses as he thought his steps ahead actually gave his character some weight and later, growth. Yang Zi, as usual, was good in delivering the emotional scenes, especially when talking to her mother.

As an eldest daughter to an asian family with an overbearing and loving mother,this drama resonates on me so much (albeit,my mom is not as controlling and irritating as her mother’s character). FL relationship with her mother is actually the core of this drama. I follow koala for a long time so I know this drama will not be her fav lol. She tends to lean more into romance genre,so if you are looking for romance,this drama is not for you. The romance is more quiet and on the background,and I love their companionship even before they started dating. Their chemistry is good and they are adorable together. The only thing I’m not satisfied with is the lack of ML backstory. While I understand this is a FL centric drama,but a little more insight about ML is not gonna hurt, and he had such an intresting arc. The ratings are good,tho.I don’t know why koala refer it as ‘okay’ rating. This drama apparently is well received in both China and internationally..

I can’t tell if it’s this genre or it’s YZ. Yang Zi doesn’t do it for me in modern dramas. Part of it may be attributable to her looks (she is more interesting to look at in costume and can’t pull off that same look in modern.) Her acting, especially crying scenes are top notch though. So having her in the drama should in theory make the drama buzzy, but seeing stills doesn’t generate interest on my end
I think Xu Kai is cute, a little naughty
and fun in historical dramas. I think it depends on his co star is. He was great with Bai Lu. That She and and her Perfect husband Was a flop for sure. He was younger than Yangmi there should have been some passion there. It wasn’t Good at All! Yang zi, did her Best work in Ashes of Love! She is better in those roles. I am not SOLD in any other Dramas she’s played. I try but she remains in my mind as jinmin 😆 Furthermore those winy characters makes her Pitiful!

I have been watching this one as its an easy, no effort and mostly enjoyable watch (apart from a death in the early part = lots of tears and then what must be the most annoying mother in c-drama history (from the ones I’ve watched at any rate!). Decent chemistry between the two leads and a nice romance in the supporting cast. Xu Kai, I think, is doing a good job and seems fairly relaxed and capable in the role. I personally prefer Yang Zi in costume dramas, but she takes on the role well.
I am enjoying this family drama. This is the first time I watch Xu Kai took on the role of a CEO,and he did it very well. He effectively portrayed the role of a wise, scheming and a calculative businessman yet cool, a softie and a kind man on the inside,an ideal
romantic partner and a determined lover at best. He has shown the best character growth in the drama. Very handsome, of course. The FL is very good, pretty,and a very natural actress. The ML and FL is well-matched and have a good chemistry. The rest of the cast have been doing well also playing their respective roles, especially the highly insecure and controlling mother. Many real life lessons could be learned from this popular drama, a highly recommended watch for everyone who wants a real slice of life treat.

Congratulations to the entire cast, especially to Xu Kai, his leading lady, and to the actress who played the super controlling mother. You all did great. This drama is very engaging and lovely to watch. People criticising in negative ways have nothing better to do. If you think you can do better then go and act. The male lead and female lead are doing wonderfully together and I can’t fault their performance and chemistry. When I see a good drama I know it and I watch like I said it’s engaging.
I dropped this drama because I personally cannot see or feel the chemistry between the two leads. This is my personal opinion so nobody shoot me. The mother of the FL is also a very annoying character, God I hope nobody gets her in real life.

I actually like this drama a lot ,I know the main focus of drama is mother daughter relationship instead of couple romance but still I like the warmth of each episode and yes yang zi’s acting is amazing as always.
Totally loved this family drama. It brought lots of laughter & tears whilst watching this warm drama. I’m glad Yang Zi acted in a family drama.
