Joy of Life 2 Confirms May 16th Release Date and Sets Insane Record of 15 Million Reservations on Tencent

Welp, time to watch some more records fall lol in C-drama land lol. The sequel to hit C-drama Joy of Life is arriving on May 16th, exactly as rumored earlier that it would be sometime in mid-May. Joy of Life 2 has basically the same main cast and a continuation of the story, which from all the buzz and from the way other C-dramas have moved any premiere dates away from mid-May it’s clear there is a lot of viewer interest. Tencent dropped a new poster that for some reason makes Zhang Ruo Yun look exactly like Kim Sun Ho haha I can’t unsee it above. The drama has also notched an insane 15 million reservations on Tencent and with another week to go before the premiere I can see it going up a lot more. Check out the just released official preview below and get ready for JOL2 madness in C-drama land.

  • Honestly, this season might be good but is it going to be good has season 1 , personally I don't think so. The season one mystery and suspense apart from the comedy played a huge part because of the way certain characters was portrayed to be revealed throughout the show, which keeps u on the edge of ur seat, to make u want more. Now that all the players r out on the field, am curious what will bring that feel of the season 1 into this season apart from the comedy. I don't know if this is a novel that is closely following that people have read to know what will happen, probably the better part is now coming, that why fans r these excited about this season.

    • The first season also had the child actor who played the younger version of the lead who's up there with The Moon That Embraces the Sun child actors IMO when it comes to kicking off the start of a series. I was honestly sad to see him go. Luckily, Xiao Zhan's role in the 1st season was so brief, I don't think I'll miss him in this upcoming season. The fact that leads and main cast members who were in the 1st season the longest are still there is the biggest gift. So many second seasons with a totally different cast.

  • So weird it seems to be on Disney plus. Hope they put the first season because season 2 might not make sense.

  • Sequels have a difficult time measuring up, but I am looking forward to this. The drama has so many great actors, interesting characters and relationships, it was built on a solid foundation.

    • Ditto. I don't expect this to measure up to the first season, but I do hope for and expect some good tv and for the drama to keep up with the tone of the first season.

    • @πŸ™„ Poor ZRY, he must be crying in his pillow to see non-fans obsessing over other actors instead of him. Thank you, Non-ZYR fan, for looking forward to the drama. πŸ₯°

      • @Lilith Peak entertainment. 🀣 Thank you, Non-XZ fan for commenting on my anticipation along with 15 million other people. This Non-ZYR fan got a great laugh and joy from your attention.

      • I have watched most of Zhang Rou Yun's dramas and movies. I did like him in Nuts genius. I am one that watch Joy of Life for him... Not A Li Qin fan but S1 storyline was enjoyable. Looking forward to this.

      • @πŸ™„ Well you gave me attention and laughs in the first place, so it's only right I should reciprocate it πŸ˜‚ But man, it's hilarious how you believe this 15m reservations is legit. I'm sure a few dramas down the road will break the record again 🀣

    • @Lilith Probably Top C-drama actor XZ's next work will beat that reservation. I won't bother you with congratulations, Non-XZ fan. Anyways, if you like to keep following me for more entertaining chats, go ahead. I will return the favor and remind you each time you are being thin skinned. Make sure to wear sun screen when you go exercising with that friend. Have a good night!

      • @πŸ™„

No, it won't break it. XZ doesn't allow water in his works. Good for him.

It was stupid to water these reservations so much because JOL is a genuinely good drama and many people are looking forward to the sequel. But it's too late now, the number is out there and it's an object of mockery. So dumb.

      • @πŸ™„ Aww are you begging me to follow you, Non-ZRY fan? I don't mind doing that. Although I'm not as free as you to camp on this site all day to respond to me, I'll drop in time to time to say hello πŸ‘‹

@Smh This πŸ™„ person has a boner for XZ and XZ fans due to JOL.

      • @Smh Does XZ have the power to not allow water in his numbers? So his 32 million Weibo followers are all real people with opposable thumbs?

I am not disparaging him. There are no actors who can control these numbers. If there were, that level of omnipresent is scary and shouldn't be advertised.

I used 15 million in my snark earlier not so much as a hard number but more as a shorthand to convey "a lot of freaking people are also excited for this drama". We all know numbers aren't reliable and are just a form of marketing. But what this does convey and is believable is the general feeling that JOL is the most highly anticipated drama in the last several years. Whether it lives up to expectations, who knows? I have learned to keep my hopes low with dramas. If this one becomes another disappointment in the long list of disappointments, I won't be sad, there's always a next one.

And I don't have a problem with any particular actor or fans of actors. Depending on how boring dramas are, I may respond whenever I see someone make a ridiculous thin skinned remark. It so happens that in the last couple of days, there seems to be 1 particular fan type or "non fan" type that fits that description.

To make sure I am not offending you, it isn't your reply to me that I consider like those others. We may not all share the same preferences but there's no need to bash people, rational discussions are always welcomed.

      • @πŸ™„

He can control enough, especially on Weibo where in order to get all those bots for follows and likes, you have to pay. And it is actually pretty well known he doesn't.

Whether what he does is good or bad, is obviously a matter of perception. Looking how things are going for him, I would say good because his name is now associated with real data; TV ratings, likes, engagement. When you see his name you know that it's real people. His projects quality has jumped incredibly (the movie about to be announced will push it further), his brands are doing actual global campaigns with him so he is doing something right.

I don't know how much you follow cent but last year there was actually for the first time ever that I remember, talk about how real data is rare and therefore gold from some official sources.

This is why I think in the long run it would pay off to have fewer likes but a solid real base, not just for dramas but actors too. The investors know the data anyway and so do the brands. In the end, it all comes out who is actually making them money and who isn't.

As for JOL, as I said, I think this was completely unnecessary because the drama has natural excitement surrounding it. The whole marketing is being done badly though. It's got nothing to do with ZRY himself of course. The issue is with Tencent. Lately, again I don't know how much you are paying attention, but they have been going completely off the rails with promo. It's not just this drama, the marketing costs for Lost You Forever were absolute craziness (and the drama isn't on their financial report as among top 3 financial successes last year). So was the fake hype with it? Obviously not in the one thing that is the bottom line, profit.

Also, the problem is that once they did this, they can't backtrack. You are right that this record will be broken. When Tencent needs a new drama to hype, they will push it up and up and up.

They have, in essence, made the whole thing meaningless. I see it both on Weibo and Douban. Whereas before there used to be at least some real excitement over these reservations, most people just shake their heads now. You can push the reservations to one hundred million and it won't matter. It's a house of cards and you know what happens to those eventually.

Sorry for the wall of text. I hope you enjoy JOL2, I hope I will too.

      • @Smh That's interesting! Do you have a source for which actors have no Weibo zombie fans? Curious to see who else has none or who has lots.

I confess, I pay no attention to these numbers. Data is only as good as the available context. Unfortunately, there are no consistent, verifiable standards for them. The numbers are manicured in order for fandoms to inflate their faves or bash others. It's so tedious and inconsequential. Whether a drama is number 1 on the charts or number 100 doesn't affect my personal enjoyment of it.

I look forward seeing the familiar characters in JOL2. There were so many intriguing ones and the acting, especially from the veterans, was excellent. I know a predictably easily triggered somebody won't be here to bash it indiscriminately, so the environment will already be more enjoyable.😏 It will be fun chatting, good points and bad points, about it.

  • Zhang Ruo Yun is rather ugly. I can’t take his gigantic nostrils seriously. It’s too distracting every time I see his face.

The poster doesn’t look good or anything but it looks nothing like him. How strange

    • Always thought Zhang Ruo Yun looked like a less edgy Yoo Ah In especially cause of the thick lips

  • Such is the pattern of this blog’s comment space that am mildly shocked no one is coming out disputing how the reservation number is fake or inflated . πŸ˜‚ this means the popularity of this drama is pretty legit then !

    • Pretty much everyone knows the reservations are fake. There is hype but no where near that much.

  • I found S1 very exciting and started to like the main actor. I saw the other of his popular drama Snow Stride Sword n it was as good as Joy of Life S1. Let's enjoy the next 36 episodes in JOL S2. Sit tight n have your popcorn on Ur table .
