New Stills for C-drama Adaptation of The Guide to Capturing a Black Lotus with Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi

I’m seeing this drama as a late in the year 2024 release and could slip into 2025. For both leads it’s yet another opportunity to level up as their most recent dramas fared from bad-to-mid in terms of reception. The Guide to Capturing a Black Lotus (C-drama title Yong He Xing He) released new stills this week and continue to make both leads Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi look really really good together which is a feat and also a boon. Netizens are notoriously picky and at least on visuals alone this drama’s early promos are not generating any negative feedback.

New Stills for C-drama Adaptation of The Guide to Capturing a Black Lotus with Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi — 22 Comments

  1. Am I the only one who doesn’t find Yu Shu Xin pretty? To me she only has fair skin and looks basic. And she keeps sucking in her lower cheeks making her mouth look weird. Don’t even get me started on that fake cartoonish voice. Like nails on a chalkboard. During my teenage years, girls in japan and taiwan were doing that to be “cute”. It’s been decades, I wish girls would realize it’s stupid.

By the way Miao Miao is supposed to be naturally cute and petite. I would have casted someone like Zhou Ye

    • You’re not. She is not pretty at all. But she is rich and she suddenly is. Let’s not even mention that voice. But daddy pays and his princess is a star.

      • Oh come on. She’s not a classical beauty but she’s pretty alright and also cute (when she speaks normally…). Would she be a leading lady if her family wasn’t rich (at least according to cnetz, it’s not like I know them😁)? Who knows, maybe not. But to say she’s not pretty at all is way too overboard.

      • @Nena

I find her ugly. That flat pancake face, plastic surgery that tried and failed to make something out of it.

And no, she wouldn’t be anything, never mind a leading lady without her father’s money making dramas for her. She can’t act to save her life.

      • @Lol

Most Chinese actors and actresses have flatter faces, though? That’s literally what makes them look East Asian, regardless what other facial features they have.

You can just watch American or British shows instead. No flat faces there 😂

    • This seems to be an unpopular opinion among viewers of Chinese dramas, but I don’t think people need to be pretty to become actresses. They need to be able to act, exude charisma through the screen and their appearance needs to fit their roles.

If the female main character of this story is supposed to be “just” cute, I think Yu Shuxin is cute enough for it. But I guess she’s a bit too tall to be considered petite lol

    • I really like her but I don’t find her pretty either. She’s really cute to me and seems to have a really chill personality, which is why I like her.

  2. 3 out 4 of the cast were on Moonlight Variations. Ding Yu Xi and Esther Yu were paired up in that modern cute underrated show. Show was adapted from novel whose writer also did Xu Kai’s Falling Into Your Smile and YSX/Ling Yi’s upcoming Ski Into Love.

  3. At least Esther is more successful than y’all haters. 💋💋 And it’s not her fault that she’s just doing her job as an actress, Make sure y’all speak up if y’all can be successful like Esther. and it’s not Esther’s fault that y’all barked in anger just because of her voice and gorjass face. 😻💗

    • Yes, her father certainly is successful. He is a multi millionaire.

Which is why he can buy her all the things, including dramas to act in. When you are as rich as he is, he can throw all the money to get his princess roles.

Ah it’s so good to be born as a daughter of such a rich, successful man.

  4. If she could act, I would overlook her unflattering looks. Unfortunately she doesn’t own either strength. A very boring commodity in the drama land!

    • This is so true, I started watching love between the fairy and the devil last week and I had to reduce the volume so that I wouldn’t have to hear her speak.
Her voice sounds like a baby’s voice, idk if she fakes it or not. but her voice doesn’t sound pleasing to the ear.

  5. I am baffled by how people can be so effortlessly cruel when it comes to others and their looks. I truly wonder what kind of goddess like beauty some of you have witnessed that can make you say such horrid things about Shuxin. You haters should reflect on yourselves and realise that just because you can say means things about others and celebrities doesn’t mean that you should. Being a nice person is a choice.

    • nobody is making up horrid stories about her. it’s just the matter of personal preferences and the comment section is just saying that. Her fakish baby voice isn’t doing her good. I tried her dramas and except my journey to you, rest I had to shut the sound of my system.

      • comments about her voice is kind of fair, but calling her ugly or saying things like she had plastic surgery and still looks like this is not. She might not be an ethereal beauty, but she’s a far cry from ugly.
