So the better than expected reception for revenge period C-drama The Double has led to producer Yu Zheng being on cloud nine and even more outspoken than usual. He released new stills this week for Dragon Boat Festival for his currently filming C-drama Lin Jiang Xian (临江仙) formerly called There is a Fox in Hengmen. I have no idea what’s going on and this is currently so not my vibe lol. The drama stars Bai Lu and Zeng Shun Xi and hasn’t wrapped filming yet but its the drama that Yu Zheng claimed last month was better than Goblin and The Glory, go figure. He’s still harping the same “drama is amazing!!!’ tune and is reportedly telling investors that if folks think The Double is great then Lin Jiang Xian is like a even better than that. It’s kinda a bummer that he’s skipped over talking about the ensemble drama Perfect Match which is sandwiched between The Double and Lin Jiang Xian.

I will comment after watching… Yu Zheng to me is like Korea’s Hong Sisters(I know this sisters are scriptwriters)… When they announce a new drama, it gives me a buzz with enthusiasm. But some can really disappoint me some will just make me good “Wow!!” Thus I always keep my mind open with both their projects.
Agreed.
Looks like a toxic relationship to me lol
It really does. He markets toxicity.
Neither of the lead actors had any dramas that I liked in the past, unlike Wu Jin Yan whose Yanxi Palace is at least one of very very few C dramas I finished. And Wang Xinyue is a fresh face to me. I checked the Double out of boredom and it ended up a pleasant surprise. I don’t think I would be motivated to watch BL’s new dramas even I’m bored. LOL. BL’s acting has been looking so repetitive and tiring recently. She did not bring her characters alive and so obvious she was always “acting.” ZSX has never been an actor I like. There’re just no incentives for me to check out this drama.
Bai Lu is an average actress, both in looks and talent. I’m not bored watching her, but there are actresses I prioritize. She just follows the script and doesn’t play with her character, like Yang Yang Yang, Dilraba, Song Wei Long and so on. At least these ones can be seen for their good looks. Lol.
I appreciate Wu Jin Yan because she knows she is not pretty and has refused to play women like that. In the dramas I’ve seen of hers, her characters are always described as plain, and it’s not that I’m making fun, but she’s self-aware and her honesty makes me want to watch her even though she’s not a solid actress.
That’s not true now. Wu Jinyan’s character in The Double is supposed to be beautiful. Her step sister’s fiance falls for her immediately. She walks out the carriage and people are in awe of her beauty.
Wu Jin Yan is very pretty in my book. She got an Unique charm and face with swanlike body.
@Jia But in the same drama there are also characters that consider her to be plain so OP has a point.
@…. who is the drama called her plain? There are numerous examples of how she’s supposed to be beautiful
(1) When she makes her way to Jiang Li’s home, the maidservant walks out first and the villagers say she’s plain when they mistaken her for Jiang Li. Jiang Li subsequently comes out and the peasants are in awe.
(2) She goes into a shop to buy stuff, and her ex-husband’s friend recognized her. The other men in that shop make comments about her beauty.
(3) Zhou Yanbang (sister’s fiance) falls in love with her at first sight.
(4) She comes late to Ruoyao’s ceremony, and everyone first makes comments about her beauty and she stole the show from Ruoyao
(5) She goes to school and the random boy students in there again comment on her beauty and saying she looks even better than her sister Ruoyao.
(6) She had many suitors as Xue Fangfei. The old neighbor lady said so when she went back to her old hometown that XFF had suitors knocking every “3 days or so”.
Even Duke Su stared at her when he first saw her as XFF from the balcony. Not every guy is falling head over heels for her, but in no way is her character supposed to be plain looking.
I know little about WXY, but I see that he is acting fine in The Double. He has strong presence, even though his character doesn’t have many dimensions (so far).
About ZSX on the other hand, I’ve seen enough of him. His acting is generally decent. But what really bothers me is when he’s presented as handsome when he’s not. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not hate, beauty is not subjective as they say and there’s also common sense in measuring it. WXY is not my type when it comes to looks but I won’t deny that he is attractive.
WXY in the Double is too skinny for my taste, TBH. But great acting can make one attractive. Another example I can think about is Kdrama actor, Lee Jae Wook, who was the ML of one of my favorite dramas, Alchemy of Soul.
On the other hand, while I prefer some actors’ visuals, they can’t act. So, I’m indifferent to their dramas.
@Somebody I separate beauty from talent most of the time because if I don’t, I’d be carrying bias all the and accepting that actors without visuals should play roles where the characters are described as beautiful as long as they know how to act lmao. I agree, Wang Xing Yue looked better before he lost weight in The Double, but I will probably add him to my list of actors to follow.
I’m actually a visual freak. LOL. But those who can’t act can’t just get my attention with their looks. WXY, although too skinny in the Double, isn’t bad looking though. His impressive presence in the Double only gives him an edge over others who can’t act.
@Somebody Yep! I just hope Wang Xing Yue stays like this because there are actors who only have few works where they acted good and the rest is a waste of time hahaha.
@Somebody, I find Wu Jin Yan is skinny actress…abit too skinny for me but she is clearly one off those lucky ones who is naturally so. Unlike some artistes that have to make tough effort to be skinny.
Yup! She is also on the over-skinny side. I wonder if that’s due to their dancer physique. I heard that Lou Yunxi was also a dancer too. That might explain why he looked so scrawny.
