Striking while the iron is hot is so important in entertainment whenever there is a breakout or buzz. It’s great seeing supporting actors and actresses get noticed but if one doesn’t quickly have a follow up then the momentum seems to die down fast. Cheng Lei was talked about so much after My Journey to You for his acting and onscreen charisma and he got the male lead role in Zhou Ye‘s next drama Legend of the Female General. But between then an now the furor has long since moved to the next it star to have a good drama performance and he’s in the currently airing Follow Your Heart and I barely have the urge to watch that for him. It doesn’t help they put in in an ancient Phantom of the Opera mask there and halving his visual intensity haha. But it’s here in the new posters for Female General so please don’t cover this man up anymore.

Fellow ur heart started good, I thought it was a supernatural investigation kind of story but somehow it turned into a cheesy embarrassing drama,

Is it coming??? Streaming soon??? Gosh I can’t wait. I love the novel so much. I don’t care whether both of the leads can act. Just the fact that they look their parts, is good enough for me. And as long as Zhou Ye can swing swords and pull some interesting moves, I can forgive some slack on her part…. 😉
Absolutely adore these two and the novel is really good. It’s from the same author as The Double, but it’s definitely not as makjang. Waiting for the promotion period, because so far there hasn’t even been a trailer, not even a wrap up video from the crew.
Cheng Lei is a good actor but I can’t see him as a ml. He has this villain look that just doesn’t fit the good guy look but this drama sounds like a good one. I will surely check it out.

I agree with you…. I think CL fits only part of the character as the tough General but not the part of the quiet mentor and detached hero. In fact, Xiao Jue is one of my favorite characters in the ancient Chinese novels
Agree that CL is not ML material yet… ZY is a hit & miss. Will wait for this drama.
Zhou Ye fits the petite FL but Cheng Lei is far from the ML. Neither the looks nor the aura of the ML.
I’m actually surprised the novel readers didn’t get their panties in a bunch whining about the miscast.
Btw Cheng Lei’s nose is so distracting. I don’t find him handsome at all

I agree that Zhou Ye looks and feels the part. As for Cheng Lei, while I think he is compatible with Zhou Ye on screen, but I would prefer another better fit for the male character. The original character is aloof, reserved and very good looking. I somehow see Cheng Lei as okay looking but not devastatingly handsome ….and he appears to be better at playing antagonistic and complex roles.
I dunno how many actors audition or being offered for the role so it’s hard to comment whether CL is the best fit among all the other contenders. In fact I would see rather see Wu Lei, Deng Wei or Wang Xing Yue (is there any other actor with better fit?) ….but oh well… we can’t undo the casting anyway.
I like ZY..she is beautiful..and I enjoy her Scent of Tine..Off course I like her pairimg there with WXY too..actually for me this young man look is not as handsome as Yang Yang, Gong Jun or Deng wei..but he has aura that make we fall in love with him..and he is a good actor too..
For Cheng Lei..I follow his drama sincr his mini drama time and glad he get risen in long drama male lead..For me..although he is not top good looking but I also like his look..he played as great general in one of mini drama that I like the familiar stranger..
I like the story of this new drama..

Wang Xing Yue could be the candidate, but I hate him, so I’d rather keep Cheng Lei.

@Avocado Not a fan but Wang Xing Yue looks more manly than the names you pointed out, he also has better facial structure. I only agree with your comment about Yang Yang, he is a top visual. Gong Jun looks effeminate and his face is not harmonious. Deng Wei? There seems to be something off about his face. Lmao. Without all that makeup I wouldn’t recognize him. It would be nice to have beauty once makeup, filters, and accessories are removed.
@SCHI I’m not a fan of Wang Xing Yue. At the very least I need to watch one more drama to know if I should keep my good opinion because of The Double or discard it like I did with many actors and actresses. LOL. You are the fifth person on this site to point me out as his fan, despite my negative comments about his past performances. LOL.
@Rei I only watched A Journey To You because I thought I was going to find a second male lead with appealing looks and acting skills. LOL. Cheng Lei is decent in both cases.
I don’t find Gong Jun and Deng Wei handsome either. Wu Lei is attractive to me in certain dramas and in certain scenes. LOL.
Could the ML be better off with WXY? Oh too bad… But CL is ok for me just don’t know about this CP.

I have watched Wang Xing Yue in various roles (4 dramas), and he displayed different persona and vibe in each role. Similarly I also come across Deng Wei in a few dramas, to be exact, 4 dramas too.
As for Yang Yang, I like his character in Who Rules the World but I think they are looking for a newer actor…
My impression of Cheng Lei is of a “bad boy”, having seen him in My Journey to You and The Queen of Attack. Hopefully he will surprise us in this role.
So for discussion sake, please share who you think would be the ideal actor for this role…..😄

I would like to say maybe he can save it but unfortunately the FL is the heart of the drama here. What a pity to ruin an amazing novel.

No, she won’t because she doesn’t have the talent and is getting all these roles based on her backing. She can’t just suddenly buy talent the way everything else is being bought.
Omo, havent finished the novel yet. I barely remember the last chapter i’ve read. It takes some times before he knows her real identity. Almost half of the book? No?
Currently im fully devoted to other C novels and forget this one. Anyone knows when will he knows about her being a woman? Which chapter? so i can start reading it lol.
Have no problem with the cast. Both are good looking in my eyes. Idk if some people thinking that he’s not the ML material yet but well, hope he can prove his worth. I like how masculine he is. Suit the general vibe.
He knows she’s a woman around chapter 100, but finds out her real identity closer to the end.

重生之女将星 is one of my more preferred novels from this author, so my expectations are high. Obviously, I’m setting myself up for disappointment. I’m side-eyeing the change in the drama title already. Could it be any more generic?
