So there is a hit K-drama airing right now and it hasn’t gotten as much international buzz but with the fast rising ratings should be enough to pique interest. SBS Fri-Sat family law centered legal drama Good Partner has quietly hit 17% ratings in the most recent episode 7 that aired this past weekend. The drama premiered with 7.8% and then took a nearly 3 week airing hiatus while SBS aired the Summer Olympics. Starring Jang Nara and Nam Ji Hyun with male leads Kim Joo Han and P.O., the drama is riding really good reviews along with the increasing viewership thanks to strong female leads, good acting, and interesting legal stories.

This drama is so good; it actually a super simple drama mostly shot at the office or the court nothing fancy but the cases are so well made , relatable and make the viewers easily emotional.
The scriptwriter is a lawyer specialising in divorce herself.
Looks like a dozen other legal dramas…

I think the moral story is a good one. In the environment of divorce is a taboo word, the message is clear. It’s okay to get divorced.. it’s not the end of your world instead you will get a bigger chance of getting a better life for you and your child.
This is pretty much the only drama on-air that I look forward to every week. Both FLs are well-written, likeable but flawed. I think the high ratings can also be attributed to the subject matter being relatable to many in SK. My only issue is that I don’t like P.O’s acting and am not interested in his relationship with the 2FL (or any of his scenes really, sorry).
As a lawyer myself, I avoid legal dramas to preserve my sanity. I bet that is also what doctors do with medical dramas.
This was written by an actual lawyer who specialises in divorce in Korea. She probably does know what she’s talking about, especially as she is addressing the still very taboo topic of divorce in a highly misogynistic society.
Lea, I haven’t watched this, so I can’t tell. However legal work, including divorce cases that I know all too well, are extremely tedious and not fit for television, so show writers, even when assisted by lawyers, tend to blow everything out of proportion so that the audience keeps watching. The social aspects of divorce, however, and the fact that women are mostly stigmatized are a very interested subject – it’s not law-related (unless a country with institutionalized misogyny), but it certainly is relevant, and it is a good thing if this show highlights those.
Then you might have missed a lot of interesting stories with great suspension. A lot of legal/crime dramas have nothing much to do with the legal practice or procedures, but the focuses were on humanity and mystery that I’m highly interested in.
That being said, I understand how you feel about it. Similarly, I have had hard time liking any business drama. I can argue most of the dramas dealing with corporate world and business are jokes after jokes if I expect to watch documentaries. LOL. Nonetheless, I think many others enjoy the stories in those kinds of backdrops bcos the plots did give them a large room of imagination, and therefore very entertaining.
Yes! This drama has been quietly getting some of the best ratings this year. The fact that they climbed to 17% even after a three week hiatus for the Olympics is so impressive. Love that the drama is led by women in professional roles.
I always feel like Jang Nara is so underrated.
This drama is pretty good except PO, he’s still a bad actor. At least, it looks like they adressed divorce cases not like the other shows…
I don’t know any drama adressing divorce as a bad thing.
Queen of divorce didn’t really address the theme of divorce, it was more about the FL. Divorce Attorney Shi didn’t have so many cases neither.

I didn’t watch these dramas (Divorce Attorney Shi is in my list though), and thought they were about divorce cases. Weird, why when they used such titles..
Anyway, I remembered drama Divorce Insurance with Lee Dong Wook, Lee Kwang Soo and Lee Joo Bin airing in next year. Now I’m wondering how thet will show divorce and want to compare it with Good Partner.

I call it the Pitbull, the guy must be a delight to work with and that’s why people like to work with him.
I don’t know. I feel like he’s acting everytime the same role. Usually, it’s a small role but if I was NJH’s agency I would have complained. She acted with Ji Chang-Wook, Seo In-Guk or Lee Joon-Hyuk or can they let act with PO?
My two cents: I think the ratings was high due to the dramas craving after three weeks without them.
More than a legal drama, for me that’s more about humans who react differently than the standards of their society’s culture . Behind each divorce there are 2 stories and this drama , in my own opinon tries to convey the fact that we may not be judgemental without knowing what’s going on .
