K-actress Moon Geun Young Makes First Drama Return in 5 Years in Hellbound 2 and Reveals She’s Fully Recovered From Medical Illness

Well this is a blast from the past! A good one at that, and I hope she’s back on a more consistent cadence now. K-actress Moon Geun Young made her first public appearance in years as she returns to the small screen this month with the Netflix drama Hellbound 2 in a supporting role. She plays a charismatic and obsessed cult leader and said she couldn’t pass on the role and script once the director offered it to her. She shared that she’s fully recovered from a persistent medical illness called acute compartment syndrome diagnosed in 2017. Since had four surgeries and is now fully healthy, but the illness and treatment caused her to gain a lot of weight. She’s been on a healthy diet slowly and continues to recover. I’m just so happy to see her looking bright, cheerful, and her face definitely glows with health.

  2. It seems like she’s replacing YAI’s role. I’d much rather see a Hellbound 2 than a Squid Games 2. But idk how it will do without YAI, the strongest part of the show was him and *SPOILER ALERT* when he died in the first half, the show significantly lost its spark.

  3. if only c-ent actresses will be just as open as Korean actresses when addressing about their obvious weight gained instead of relying on photoshopped then gaslighting the netizens about being a hater 😔

  4. Really hoping for a good lead role for her. Loved her in Autumn in My Heart and Cinderella’s Sister; found her sorely underutilized in The Village, which I otherwise enjoyed.

    • I will never forget that iconic scene in Cinderella’s sister when her character runs away from the male protagonist. It was one of the best shot scene in tv/history. Her hair flying, the bgm and MGY looking heartbreakingly beautiful, angry with the world. I still go and watch it every now and then on YouTube. Too bad the drama fell apart midway.

      • I can remember this scene as well! The shot was truly beautiful. I’ll always have a soft spot for MGY. She’s a really talented actress ever since she was young. I’m glad she’s healthy and back to acting.

  5. I’m happy to know that she is healthy and ready to work again.

You guys should never visit China’s weibo and some sites in South Korea. There are too many people mocking and bullying MGY for her appearance. Humans are just…

  6. I’m so glad she’s back! I didn’t realize acute compartment syndrome was such a serious disease that required multiple surgeries. And kudos to whichever casting director, production staff, etc. who thought to cast her in Hellbound 2

  7. It’s good to see her back onscreen and even better to hear she has recovered from her health issues. She has been sick for a long time.

  8. It’s good to know that Moon Geun Young is back. I loved her so much that I’m always following whatever project she’s involved in. I hope Hellbound 2 makes a good start for her next project.

  9. I’m so happy she’s back and healthy now. I think it speaks volumes of her beautiful character to not wait to be as skinny as those bashers would have liked before making a comeback. As long as she’s healthy and fit to work, she should. Even if there wasn’t a medical explanation for her weight gain, those people that bashed her would still be very unhappy people. It takes a lot of unhappiness and wickedness to try to hurt someone that only just recovered.

  10. Now can somebody please give my other fave “Moon” actress, Moon Chae Won, a meaty, high profile role, please? I want to see her in a great role and project again. It’s been 4 years since ‘Flower of Evil’!

I just read about the upcoming remake of ‘Untold Scandal’ with Son Ye Jin which is itself a remake of ‘Les Liaisons dangereuses’ and I think MCW would be perfect as the Korean remake equivalent of the Madame de Tourvel character.
