I’m not a true data nerd but it’s always useful to have hard numbers to look at rather than a general sense of buzz. Datawin released it’s most anticipated C-dramas list this week so as of mid-November these are the dramas that are getting the most searches and chatter online. Number one goes to The Immortal Ascension (A Mortal’s Guide to Immortality) starring Yang Yang so it’s definitely a testament to how popular he is. In second spot is Guardians of the Dafeng with Dylan Wang and Tian Xi Wei, so between these two dramas it’s Immortal that is going into airing with more strength but of course it can all change once viewers see the end product. Third place is a surprise with Family Business with Yang Zi and Han Dong Jun, the surprise is that it just started filming and in fact Yang Zi has an even bigger drama with Flourished Peony already finished filming but that drama is only in the 7th spot. Fourth place is Blossom with Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui, fifth goes to Noble Lady with Chen Du Ling and Xin Yun Lai, and six spot is the only modern drama in the top group with Love’s Ambition with Zhao Lu Si and William Chan. Anticipation means nothing, those with liuliangs will always dominate this chart. Datawin was notorious for giving a lower score to The Knockout even though it's the biggest hit of the year.

Yang Yang is not really the main draw. This drama is based off very popular source material and its fanbase is huge. If it goes well, his career will experience another soar.
Yeah. It's even popular outside China. I am one of the fan of the novel. I hope the drama would give it justice.
I haven't read the novel nor have I watched the donghua. But, I heard the character himself isn't really difficult to portray - the typical righteous kind of role, which YY has done before, not hard. Which is why i hesitate to say something like, if this project fails, he will fall drastically in popularity. Fact is, if the production fails, it'll fail on the drama's shoulders and not on him, because the requirements of him are so low (for this role), that it's difficult to fail that badly.
Despite Yang Zi s mediocre dramas they still somehow succeed. She must have a long lasting star power to attract that amount of traffic. Still another female empower story seems to be getting over done. Hopefully it is good.

The production is being too secretive with materials and all but I'm still look forward to this drama. The set, the costumes and everything looks nice hopefully the story too will not disappoint

As for Yang Yang, he has a major fan base. I know some people don't like it but yes, he is way more popular than the likes of WHD and has been for years. It's really a no brainer nor is this heat odd.
