It’s so hard to score in successful projects and even harder to do it on a home run. The safer way is to get base hits and build up that short and consistent game. At the start of next year 2025 C-actor Deng Wei will be going on a year without being on a drama set since he wrapped his last filmed drama Love of the Divine Tree with Xiang Han Zhi. But the drama is slated to air in Q1 next year on iQiyi and he was in the summer C-drama Lost You Forever Part 2 so I feel like he still has momentum but it has definitely slowed down. Reportedly he gets of offers for male lead in a mid budget drama or second male lead in a big budget drama but he’s not willing to take them. His team is putting it all on the line that Divine Tree being a hit to cement his level to get male lead in a big budget drama going forward. Let’s see if this ends up being a good bet for his career.
Is this news true, I dont know but I personally feel it is very unwise to not take on 2nd lead in a big budget drama.. as visibility is important in this industry. And one less rookie actor, there are tons waiting behind to choose from. This would be a risky move…
Mid budget lead.. that will depend on scripts, cast and producers.. worth considering. If he did reject those scripts…maybe there are other reasons. It may not be due to him is waiting on lead roles in big budget dramas.
I have to say, didn’t he get a few unwanted rumours made out about him ? Did he offend anyone, why are there so unpleasant news about him? It must be so tough on him. I dont know this chap, watched one of his shows only…but I hope he is not attacked without bases by others.
Popular chinese stars get attacked without bases and that is a sad truth
that is true..so hard to tell what is true or false.
He’s caught between a rock and a hard place. He doesn’t have extremely strong backings and his acting skill is weak, so he’s largely dependent on using his fandom as a bargaining chip to negotiate for roles. However, because he heavily watered his data back then, his fans were deluded into thinking he’s the next big liuliang and can’t accept him taking any roles lesser than 1st billing.
So the situation now is investors aren’t keen to offer good 1st billing roles to him, but if he takes roles lesser than 1st billing, his fans will leave him.
This is why he is banking all in on this drama.
I see.. I really dont see him as big liuliang… but things are unpredictable.. maybe this drama will be good.
Cause he’s rising star and his fans always bragging he is next xiaozhan lol. Somebody can always dreaming heh😂
This dude needs to take whatever chance he finds in his way, I almost forgot ab him; wish these young actors understood that getting ONE successful don’t really rain you with S dramas the next day, even Dylan Wang if he hadn’t a strong presence on variety shows,he wouldn’t have that many opportunities for big budget dramas after LBDAF.
Floppity flop.
If only he hadn’t watered his data like a rabid greedy person his situation would be much better now. But he decided he is God’s gift to mankind and here we are now. Fafo.
Somethings are beyond his control… dont you think? He is managed by a company and team…at the end of the day…he is just a product to them. Which is very sad but a fact. This applies to almost all young idols. I would not fault them personally unless there bases for it…
The trailer for this drama has been around for so long that I wondered if it would be shelved like so many others. It does not seem to be so highly anticipated and the story seems stereotypical for the genre. Hope it works out in some way for him though not sure if it will catapult him the way he wants though.
Filming wrapped up in February 2024, just got a broadcast licence last week
I see I guess I’m not used to their ways in how they process showing or premiering their shows in China. In my mind if you put out a trailer that insinuates the drama premier should be around the corner but they tend to drag their feet in that. I have seen similar situations where the dramas don’t air till a year or more and even near a decade so I just can’t understand it. That is why I assumed it might not air this year.
Drama’s scripwriter is pretty solid though…she’s the lucky star of Cheng Yi. ‘Love and Redemption’, ‘Mysterious Lotus Casebook’ and his upcoming work ‘Fu Shan Hai’ are all written by her. I trust her despite her latest work being underwhelming (The Last Immortal with Zhao Lusi and Wang Anyu)
From what I seen from his real personality, he doesn’t seem to care much for fame. He’s very quiet and reserve so he doesn’t do variety shows. I don’t think he would be too sad even if he doesn’t become a major star. He was thrown into the industry because he had an injury doing ballet.
Fame comes with more hate. I felt if he really wanted to chase fame then he would have taken many of the roles offered. Even when LYF was hot, he decided to take 2nd anyhow.
He danced ballet like Luo Yunxi 😮.
Hahahahahahahahahahahagahaha
Thanks for the laugh, I needed that. Good grief.
I feel like the perfect amount of fame would be to make enough off of one or two acting jobs a year and live comfortably in a well-off (but not rich) life. Some are fine with that level. Some want to rise further up the ladder and put in more hours and hustle.
I feel like no matter what role he takes, people are bent on finding something to dislike.
I feel like ur statement goes for every actor in entertainment industry
I’m not sure why fans would leave him if he takes second ML roles??? Esp. If it’s for top dramas? A normal fan would support her favorite to get more successful.
Personally for me he doesn’t really stand out amongst the many existing and up & coming male leads whether acting or visuals.
I recall a video where the content was saying they often cannot recall his face in different dramas despite knowing his name instantly or the drama… in good jest but I actually do resonate with that unfortunately. I think he should do more dramas even if second lead and often second leads gets a chance to breakout anyway without the stress of hard carrying the show so I don’t see why his agency is against that and it does seem unwise IMO
I don’t get it. The character in LYF was a wet rag. A pretty one, but there are a lot of pretty people.
I feel like this was a big mistake on his team’s part. After the first part of Lost You Forever came out he should have accepted those mid-budget dramas. Mid-budget dramas can become big hits (I don’t know why some people look down on them) if the script is good and the directing is on point. He needed visibility after being in such a big drama. Look at Zhang Wan Yi and Tan Jian Ci, both have used the success of Lost You Forever in their favor; especially Zhang Wan Yi (The Rise of Ning and A long way home did amazing in China and Are you the one did great globally.)
Also he’s the 2ML in Take Me Where the Clouds Rise so I don’t think his team has an issue with him being being a 2ML they probably just want him in big dramas.
He took 2ML in Take Me Where the Clouds Rise before the success of LYF. That drama has been in limbo allegedly for copyright infringement, and who knows when or if it will air.
If this happened around 5-6 years ago I would be mad at his studio/company for not making him wait in his age & this industry.
BUT I did wish that for many celebrities I liked like Bai Lu & Xu Kai when they werent this big & that didnt go so well for me even if they are more known now…
I mean yeah they got so many lead roles and ‘billing’ yet there isnt a serie where I call ‘oh my heart this is my fave character from them so far’ OR ‘I can rewatch this serie many times until I get another serie from them!’…
I even wish for them to take a break for a while now and turn with better script choices & acting progress *daydreaming still hopeful
Plus DW sounds quite calm on this matter whenever its up on interviews or in fandom part of weibo so what can we say anyway.I dont believe any of these names can control this matter in the end its all up to their studio or boss UNTIL they got a lot more famous or big or whatever people call that.Or maybe have a strong backer?
I can only hope for the best because I really like his acting in emotional parts of any story he played. Im scared for the coming serie though because I couldnt feel much chemistry from trailers or photos from CP.
I only watched this actress in ‘Forever Love (2020)’ & I cant say I liked her acting it well enough to pull her character in this novel.
I wont even start commenting on novel here because couldnt even finish it after trying 3 times! Writer surely loved white hands, gorgeous handsome faces & white skin beauty while writing important fighting or any progress scenes it made me roll my eyes to the back…
he has confirm new drama with ju jingyi, will start filming after painted skin
Ju Jingyi! oh… I may not be her fan but she does seem popular in China. This might be good for him.
Link please. I’ve only seen this a rumor, with no confirmation from anyone.
SMH. I haven’t been following C-Ent that long, but I’ve never seen an actor, his team and his fans consistently take the path to tanking a career. He should have just gone with a sex scandal or tax evasion. It would have been quicker and less messy.
Seek help. Wishing someone you don’t even know bad things to happen is seriously sick…Lost You Forever fandom is one of the worst I’ve ever seen…no wonder I steered away from all things related to it the moment it ended (part 2 sucked anyway, Cang Xuan’s character has lost its appeal the moment they decided to tone down/water down his personality…they completely messed up the ending)
Learn to read. No where did I wish bad things to happen to anyone. But yes, that’s part of what I’m talking about. Team DW had fights with EVERYONE — the cast, the crew, the creators, the platform and other fans. Again, to the detriment of his career.
