Han Suk Kyu Wins Daesang at the 2024 MBC Drama Awards with Ceremony to be Aired One Week Later Due to National Plane Crash Tragedy
The 2024 MBC Drama Awards took place without a live telecast yesterday but the network released a list of all the major category winners. Veteran actor Han Suk Kyu took home the Daesang (Grand Prize) for the drama Doubt (Korean title Such a Close Traitor). Other Daesang candidates Lee Je Hoon, Yoon Yeon Seok, Honey Lee, Byun Yo Han, and Kim Nam Joo all won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively, for their dramas Chief Detective 1958, When the Phone Rings, Knight Flower, Black Out (Snow White Must Die), and Wonderful World. The other fun winner is Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin taking home the Best Couple prize for When the Phone Rings.
I was guessing the daesang could either go to Han Suk Kyu or Lee Hanee. The outcome is pretty much expectable.
So happy for the two alumnis of Mr.Sunshine. They deserve the recognitions and proud Chae Soo Bin too, she did a great job playing a mute person and displaying such tenacity with her sign language skills.
The best couple win is predictable and well deserved. Never had I imagined this kind of fiery chemistry from Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin. It’s part of the reason why the drama is so popular esp among international viewers despite lack of promotions. Anyway, YYS got what he wished for, that is to win that couple award with CSB for WTPR.
It’s straight up fire their chemistry. MBC & the regional Netflix accounts promote WTPR a lot in their social media. When they won the best couple award, they trended #1 (YYS-CSB wins CP award) on Weibo’s entertainment section. The Cfans eat up their CP. And have u seen those comparison edits between Hyun Bin-Son Yejin & YYS-CSB?? It’s wild. Their offscreen chemistry getting all that buzz as well.

I don’t want to compare any drama couple with BinJin because what are the odds that we can get another reel-to-real life couple again?. There’s QOT couple and Lovely Runner’s Couple that people draw comparison to BinJin also.(though I completely am not invested in these two CPs). LOLS
But their BTS is just so tempting, it’s like a romcom. YYS and CSB are just so sweet together, so it’s really hard not to ship them. They gave me butterflies not only when watching the drama but also from their BTS.
I am so happy that the drama is so popular. It was never in my radar but it just exploded on Dramabeans and on my X feeds that I had to check it out and I am glad I did.
Latest Mbc bts just came out. I agree, their bts is a separate romcom. Csb tickling Yys’foot and him hiding under the blanket. I would put ABBA songs Ring Ring Ring, Take A Chance on Me and I Do I Do as the bgm. Lol. I badly need another drama from them.
Oh yesss, the YYS-CSB chemistry is off the charts! I normally hate shipping, but it’s so hard NOT to ship those two! YYS is an absolute chemi master and has chemistry with all of his female leads (except SHB in HP 1 and 2, in my opinion, but I think that’s because of her). But his chemistry with CSB hits different.
I’m making a conscious effort to only ship their characters though, because there’s no evidence of anything happening in real life. I’ll just sit back and enjoy the last 2 episodes of WTPR!
I blame the PD for hyping up their offscreen buzz by casting YSS’s dog Rita and CSB’s real life baby nephew in two of the scenes. YYS mentioned her baby nephew and her older sister’s recent wedding in Whenever Possible reality show when CSB was the special guest. We all know CSB simply adores Rita. Lol. I’m just happy they are at least good friends and close colleagues irl.
So freaking hooked on YYS and CSB. Who knew these two had such amazing chemistry, the type of chemistry where there is this sexual tension all the time between the characters. It will be difficult to see them pair up with other people because their chemistry game peaked with each other. Still I look forward to their work and have been watching their other projects. I see a bright 2025 for them individually.
The mid part of finale was a complete makjang fest. Only the explosive volcanic chemistry of YYS-CSB saved me from utter of the whole Argan nonsense. These two should be rewarded with a vacation trip for spewing off cheesiest lines of writer and acting out some most ridiculous plot lines ever.
Congrats to Lee Je Hoon for Chief Detective 1958. Well deserved!
I enjoyed Chief Detective 1958 Lee Je Hoon and his mates have a good chemistry .
As much as i love Han Suk Kyu , this year i would have chosen Byun Yo Han . Han Suk Kyu is an incredible veteran actor so for once i’d like for a younger one who did a great job to win . Kim Nam Joo was also great . As for the best couple , well ,comments aren’t needed , just watch it ! A contrario, i couldn’t watch “Love your enemy ” because of the lack of chemistry which amazed me because Jung Yoo Mi has good chemistry with most of her partners .

HSK is a great actor but I expected Lee Honey to get it on the basis of her drama’s ratings. But I have not seen Doubt so I can’t comment on who deserves it more. Either way congrats to HSK and everyone else. It was a good year for MBC on the quality and ratings end of things.
I love this actor but Doubt wasn’t so good and his acting was good but as usual. I agree with the actress playing his daughter, she deserves an award, she was good.
