Meng Zi Yi and He Yu Confirmed as Leads for Tencent Period C-drama Blossoms of Power
Ye old blossom has returned and this one has power to boot! Tencent announced this week the finalized casting for its upcoming period C-drama Blossoms of Power with the Chinese title 百花杀 Bai Hua Sha or Hundred Flower Kill which was originally titled in Chinese 东风信 Dong Feng Xin or Eastern Wind Letter. The coveted female lead role goes to current It Girl Meng Zi Yi thanks to her breakout in Blossom, while the male lead has inked He Yu who continues his male lead streak of roles thanks to his potential but will need to actually air a hit drama as male lead to cement his status. Filming starts soon and He Yu will roll into this set after wrapping modern C-drama Speed and Love with Yu Shu Xin.
Having watched him in 2 dramas as SML, I find him okay-ish as SML but not interesting enough as ML.
I feel it is because he has such young visuals that whenever he steps up to main lead roles it becomes a big disconnect to his main lead roles. And I noticed his drama choices just don’t catch my interest as much when he leads. His second lead role choices just have a more interesting character role so he shines more. Maybe he will prove us wrong as time goes by.
I’ve read the novel, there are hundreds chapters, i wonder if they will pack it into a 40 episodes drama. The story itself is not that complicated. Actually, nothing new. Pretty sure she’ll handle this character well. Havent watched anything with the HY, or i forget, but the male lead character reminds me of Yang Yang’s Who Rules The World.
I’m excited for He Yu’s potential breakout roles with both Speed and Love as well as this. Both female leads are good and chemistry and plot for both look good. His agency is doing a good job at picking his roles.
I’ve read the novel, its more than 800 chapters with a lots of things going on in between, i really look forward for the story about side characters a.k.a Bu Shulin and Cui Jinbai rather than main character because in the book their story were hilarious, just so chaotically funny
