Mango TV May Finally Release Republic Era Period C-drama The Love of Hypnosis with Crystal Liu and Jing Bo Ran This Summer of 2025
This may be the longest on the shelf C-drama with now going on 7-years that The Love of Hypnosis has been sitting in statis. It was filmed in 2017-2018 and was then a huge budget high profile drama with Crystal Liu as the top billed female lead with Jing Bo Ran as the male lead. Then the second male lead went and got himself fully cancelled after posting on SNS questioning whether the Japanese army around the WWII era was really invaders since they didn’t loot the Imperial Palace and criticizing the Western nations more for the occupation. It was…..quite a position to take lol. He was cancelled so instantaneously and thoroughly there wasn’t even time for whiplash. Since then his scenes have been re-filmed with another actor but then the drama got embroiled in a copyright lawsuit which further put it in limbo. Everything has since been resolved and reportedly with the downturn in C-drama viewership and buzz in recent years and especially to start off this year, Mango TV is seriously preparing to release this drama in this summer 2025. The Chinese title has been changed from 南烟斋笔录 Nan Yan Qi Bi Lu to 一曲三笙 Yi Qu San Sheng and two years ago the editing already cut the drama from 77-episodes to 55-episodes. There may be even more cuts to avoid airing as a two-parter. The hope is that viewers will tune in for very young Crystal Liu and the buzz about this long awaited drama finally airing.
This one seems pretty old because of how long ago it was supposed to be released. Will it stick well in this day and age or seem super dated? Never thought it would showcase. Just because it has been that long. I guess that is how China rolls with their dramas. Very odd.
I am more curious about how it will be received rather than the drama itself. Personally I prefer super dated c-dramas to the majority of post 20’s productions. Nonetheless I think the audience’s taste have changed. On this basis the emphasis is put on cinematography rather than acting skills or script.
What’s going on with the release of banned dramas these days? Is there financial downturn for companies trying so hard to recoup investment.

Looking forward to this one if it finally airs. What a pair. The next miracle would be Night Wanderer airing with Deng Lun and NiNi. I hope even with all the changes to these dramas, the original cuts will eventually see the light of day.
Wow! All these dramas are coming out one by one.
I can’t imagine that this drama will be good with an actor being replaced and so many episodes being cut.

LYF looks elegant. LYF looks graceful. Nothing wrong with her. Nonetheless, somehow she has always bored me to the heck in all her dramas I tried to watch but failed to finish. Something in her acting speaks volume of boredom, maybe? This one just looks like one of the same duds of hers as the FL. The time period of the plot setting doesn’t help at all. LOL. That being said, applaud for JBR to reemerge from cancelation since nothing’s wrong with what he said LOL.
