So the two way hot drama horse race that started with The Prisoner of Beauty on Tencent last week followed by Legend of Zang Hai with Xiao Zhan over the weekend on Youku will now be joined by a third galloping steed in the form of period wuxia drama The Journey of Legend with Cheng Yi airing on iQiyi. The platform is reportedly airing TJoL today on May 22nd after delaying it from an earlier in the month airing when supporting female lead Li Kai Xin was embroiled in a scandal with a voice recording reportedly of her denigrating the Chinese entertainment industry and Chinese people. This week the person who released the recording admitted it was doctored to harm Li Kai Xin and apologized, and Li Kai Xin and her agency has apologized for the furor while remaining adamant she never said those things. Makes sense for iQiyi to just airdrop this big male lead IP drama right now in case anything changes and also to capture the current buzz in the drama world thanks to the other two popular dramas. Viewers are tuning in and that means more interest all around. This could be a win-win-win scenario for all three dramas, but in terms of any direct competition it will be between Xiao Zhan and Cheng Yi headlining big male lead top billed dramas and also with their very strong dueling fandoms. I’m over here with popcorn lol.
I think it’s more of Cheng Yi and his agency being aggressive on bundle marketing trying to elevate the status of CY when in fact CY was never a competitor because he belongs to a much lower tier.
CY changed his birth year after failing to breakthrough vs the other 89-born actors like CX, LXY and RJL. He opted to change his birth group to 90’s but his status is still the same – groveling at the bottom and still doing bundle marketing.
Most of his recent dramas are also mostly home made dramas or backyard dramas heavily invested by his own agency. CY fans may claim an otherwise but if you check thoroughly without fan-colored-glasses, most of the ’other’ investors are still one way or another connected to Hanrui.

I just checked the drama’s MDL page to read its synopsis. There some of the fans had said its airing is a fake news (spread by some Vietnamese platform (?)) and would probably air after PoB. I personally have know idea whether it is true or not.
Regarding LoZH I think it is one of the best C dramas I watched recently. However, it is not nearly close to dramas such as NiF (mostly in terms of story). Apart from magnificent acting, directing and OST, I loved NiF for its distinguish BTW looking for justice and seeking revenge. IDK which one of these roads LoZH is going to take.
For me the most important aspect of a drama is its character development/character arc. I like to see multi-dimensional deep characters (rather than being entertained) and strong villains are as essential as relatable protagonists for a good story IMO. So far LoZH had a promising beginning but it all depends on how the rest of the story unfolds (I have only watched couple of its first episodes).
It is very disrespectful towards Xiao Zhan to drag his name in this fiasco when it’s Cheng Yi and his agency are the one desperate enough to associate themselves to XZ name.
These two have nothing to be compared to because they are from different level in c-ent. Only Cheng Yi and his agency are taking and getting all the benefits in this.
Cheng Yi will always belong to low level in c-ent with his sub class web dramas with low to mid-level productions.
Don’t kid yourself either…Xiao Zhan is neither at the level of serious actors such as Jackson Yee, Zhu Yi Long, Lei Jia Yin…He is sure pretty…Acting wise? Average at best if we compare him to the ones I mentioned above. The day he will be invited at the Cannes Festival or other prestigious award ceremonies (and not as a model), I will take him seriously and this day has yet to come….
Xiao Zhan fans has never compared him to those people whom you’ve mentioned though. If I remember correctly, he obtained an award from a CMG/CCTV-related drama ceremony, I think that award is pretty prestigious? But I think it’s ignorant to claim that actors who didn’t receive an award are bad at acting, there’s plenty of good actors out there who don’t have any award because they don’t have the backings required.
And it’s such a pity that people keep denying an actor’s acting skills just because they are handsome or pretty.

Talent, not traffic, makes a successful long-term acting career. Who is trying to bundle with who? 🤔

I personally find Nirvana and The Disguiser not about one actor…the 2 dramas are amazing because of the strong casts. Without the chemistry of the other strong casts, the 2 dramas would not have shone by Hu Ge on his own.
