C-actress Zhang Xue Ying the New Rumored Female Lead for Tencent Big Budget Period C-drama The One with Wu Lei
There is new movement with the casting of Tencent period C-drama The One (剑来 Jian Lai or Sword Comes), which is good because it means Tencent is actively trying to kick off production for this rather than just noodling around. The new female lead rumored is C-actress Zhang Xue Ying, who I know the name and her face is familiar but goodness I don’t recall ever watching her in anything. She is probably most famous for starting off alongside Guan Xiao Tong ten years ago as one of the new Four Dans of C-ent as part of the ’95-line. With her being in talks for The One, it’s also with the confirmation that Wu Lei remains the male lead and is all but a lock. I just want him to get an awesome female lead that doesn’t waste his first drama return in three years.
TBH, I don’t see Wu Lei as a versatile actor with born acting talent. His junior acting was actually the weakest part in Nirvana in Fire. Somehow people cut slack on him and perhaps adore him as a “child” actor. His green acting, however, continued into the following dramas of him as adult male leads. I found him pretty awkward with all female costars except for Zhao Lusi. Nothing much to write home about his acting in non-romance either. Love like the Galaxy is one exception where he had very good chemistry with ZLS and was fetching as the traumatized and stealthily revengeful general. But after LLTG, he was back to the same awkward dude with romantic scenes. LOL. The worst was his collab with Zhao Jinmai in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love where his creepy, not infatuated stares like a deer in the headlights freaked me out LOL.
I’ll check out WL’s dramas pending who his FL is. Sophie Zhang is a talented actress. She did an amazing job in Princess Silver. Surprisingly, PS (no pun intended lol) was one of just a handful of Cdramas I ever watched and finished without fast forwarding through the end. Imagine I even skipped and fast forwarded hit dramas such as Joy of Life. But I finished that underrated little idol costume PS mainly thanks to Sophie Zhang’s mesmerizing performance. But I binged PS (sounded so hilarious with pun lol). It’s a shame she’s only got that script making her becoming. It seems to me her opportunities to advance her acting career has been stymied somehow. I personally consider her a better actor than Wu Lei. I hope she’s got this role and is able to make the best out of this opportunity to elevate her status in C-ent. Wu Lei has a bigger name than hers after all.
Yes same! I’ve been saying the same thing with Wu Lei. I can’t seem to continue LLTG due to his awkward acting. His eye acting is really not good. I really tried watching him in other dramas because they always say he’s good but I think I’m being objective and quite forgiving already when I say he really is not. He just seems awkward in general and doesn’t feel like a veteran child star. Hope tho that his venture in movies improved his skills
I like him in LLTG but honestly He’s lucky his character suits his stiff and awkward acting and his chemistry with ZLS made the drama awesome. Sometimes his subtle expression doesn’t match the vibe of the scene
Yea, as much as I love Wu Lei, he’s another Dilireba for me.
Oh…she went quiet for a while. I hope she gets the role…underrated actress.
She once was popular back then especially in Princess Silver. She was also in the remake of Summer’s desire.
But but but… she was rumored with Qin Junjie (Yangzi’s ex boyfriend, i actually didnt quite remember his name tho). Since then, she got fewer good scripts. She only acted in cheap idol dramas.
But she was a good actress.
I heard about that too.
But Yangzi denied it saying there’s no 3rd person. I mean, after that, Sophie Zhang got vanished. She’s no longer in big budget dramas anymore. Not even playing supporting roles.
But glad that she’s back as the first lead in big budget drama. Good for her.
She is pretty, but ordinary common pretty, likely 10 million look-alikes in China, so not recognizable in any drama.
I actually did watch and finish one of her low budget idol dramas with Bi Wen Jun, 墨白. Despite the budget, abysmal editing, and mediocre storyline, I find that she was still so charming and was like a shining beacon of light in this very mid effort of a drama.
NGL, Wu Lei had me convinced with LLTG but boy, was I disappointed with his creepy portrayal of being in love in Amidst a Snowstorm. I realized he really needs the right role, director, AND costar to be utilized properly. He needs to work on controlling and dialing the intensity. Not every role needs to be at level 10, some roles need need nuance.
I feel like Zhang Xue Ying would be a wonderful female lead alongside Wu Lei if they show chemistry at table read.
I like Wu Lei in Long Ballad
