Romance C-drama Shine on Me with Song Wei Long and Zhao Jin Mai Breaks 28000 on Tencent as an Addicting Fluffy Watch — 12 Comments

  1. This is a 100% idol drama, no doubt. I’m following it while multitasking such as working out at the same time cuz it’s an easy story to digest that doesn’t need many brain cells to focus on anything. LOL.

I also read quite a few online discussions comparing SoM with Speed and Love. Fans of these two dramas dissed each other LOL cuz the dramas were premiered around the same time? Out of curiosity, I checked Speed and Love and surprisingly found the ML very attractive in his bad boy vibes. ZJM is a way more decent actress compared with Esther Yu who appeared charlatan with awkward acting and voice as usual in SAL. The unknown ML basically ran circles around Esther. SAL could have been a drama that I might be interested in. But Esther Yu once again turned me off. She has no remedy LOL.

Not a fan of either actress. I actually haven’t been able to finish any dramas of these two actresses. Just my personal opinion about the two dramas in competition at the same time.

    • They aren’t even in airing at the same time to begin with. And coming from a fan of someone, I get why you never finished watching the 2 leads dramas and only found zhao jinmai’s acting as ‘decent’ (which is funny ironic btw) lol. The same goes with Koala and her talk about acting here

      • Who cares about Chinese streaming platforms when we internationals have other more interesting websites to watch C dramas? These two dramas were both uploaded on Viki.com around the same time. Many people have been watching and making comparison. It’s fair for me to repeat on this site what many have been doing elsewhere online. lol.

BTW, I didn’t quite get your English. Did you try to say I critiqued ZJM and Esther Yu all cuz I was a fan of someone else? If that’s what you meant, then your grammar was confusing. But I guess that was what you tried to say. I only consider myself a fan of Xiao Zhan among all C celebs. Wtf does XZ have to do with my opinion about actresses then? Lol Stop getting butthurt if other people don’t appreciate what you like! Asian fans should learn to be more tolerant of different tastes and opinion.

  2. I’m loving this one as well. It’s fluffy and trope-y, and like Koala pointed out, the furthest thing from a rocket science type of drama, but I wouldn’t have half as much fun watching one of those as I’m having with “Shine On Me” this winter season! And I’ve never been one to really dissect acting prowess–unless the acting is so atrocious that it takes me out of the scene, or so exceptional framed within the story that it induces very deep emotions in me (truly rare, that!)–but I think the main actors’ acting in “Shine On Me” is… perfectly adequate? I actually find Zhao Jinmai very expressive and likeable in her role, and Song Weilong is doing fine emoting everything that he’s supposed to. And they both (though, let’s be honest, especially him) look so beautiful that it’s really elevating the entire watching experience. 😉
All in all, I agree that nobody would call this a prestige drama, but I honestly find it very well put together in terms of addictive yet stress-free story, more than sufficient eye candy, and acting and production values.A

  3. Hahaha~ the Zhuang Xu hate train (not the actor of course) is understandable as he’s always a woe-is-me type of hypocritical character.. I read the novel and I always thought Lin Yusen (SWL character) was the ML with SML POV. He’s always so patient with Xiguang and he’s such a sweetheart that I want them nepo babies to get together soon, Show!

  4. Can’t agree more, Koala. That drama is super addicted for winter season. Love both cutie leads and I also want second lead kept getting thwarted as I feel je is so twisted..lol

  5. Love the leads together! Such a healthy pursuit coming from the ML, and I like that the leads spent a lot of time together to build a relationship with each other. Like you see the growth from sort of frenemies to slightly truce friend and now romantic interest. I also love the FL’s character; she’s the type of character I’m screaming at the TV to do this and that, and she goes ahead and does just that LOL. Can’t wait to see when FL say yes.

Don’t even get me started on the SML. He has so many toxic traits that I’m baffled why people want him with the FL. Sure, his arc and suffering are interesting to see, but as FL’s final romantic partner – NO way! He’s too selfish and self conscious to really care about her, for example, when he made her walk in those heels; I already knew beforehand that he was inconsiderate and FL was going to complain about her heels.

  6. This drama requires zero brain cells to watch. ZJM is at her peak visual here, and SWL has always been serviceable.

I’m surprised it can drag a nothing plot to 30+ episodes.

  7. Happy for them, especially for Song Wei Long, whom I have a soft spot for. Not sure if I will watch. I worry that it’s going to be like Amidst a snowstorm of love, which a lot of people loved, but I just didn’t vibe with.

  8. I love this drama. Easy to watch. Both main characters are good people. The cast are so heartwarming. This is one of my top fave c drama. I usually ship zjm w wu lei but man, she and swl in this drama has just so much chemistry
