Yang Mi and Liu Xue Yi Confirmed for Serious Period C-drama The Reign of Northern Wei
After a bit of back and forth with the male lead selection, the main leads are done for the upcoming period C-drama The Reign of Northern Wei (Jiang Shan Da Tong). It’s a big budget serious historical period C-drama produced by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and will have Yang Mi starring as Dowager Empress Feng from her youth to ruler. Liu Xue Yi has landed the coveted male lead role and these two will definitely make a strong onscreen pairing. The drama heads into production in the next month or so with an eye towards second half of 2027 release.
Finally maybe an good scripts opportunity for lxy.

LXY has both the fortunate and unfortunate face of a mature man. His real life personality is much more chill and funny. Sad he’s been pigeonholed into serious manly roles – all due to his handsome face. He would do way better in comedic ones (not enough of these IMO.)
I have never seen any of Yang Mi’s dramas, but I’ve heard quite a bit about her acting. Not sure how this drama will turn out, but on the bright side, Liu Xueyi gets to star alongside seasoned actors like her, Hu Jun, and Liu Yijun in a government backed production which I’m sure will give his career a solid boost it deserves. Wishing him the best especially with the overwhelming amount of hate he’s facing right now. Can’t wait to see him in braids again as well LOL.

Im surprised shes chosen given her rather crappy acting skills. Had no idea she was that favoured by the government either.
She is not. In fact, her reputation is in the gutter after the Weibo night scandal she caused.
But she had a good drama that brought her recognition before that so her situation had improved from what it was. Her behavior is killing that improvement though, including what is happening right now. Plus she isn’t actually a good actress and it will all probably fizzle out soon again.

Was the drama that did well “this thriving land”? Good drama but I thought she was her usual mediocre self there.
Yes she has had so many different attitude controversies and low EQ moments off cam, just such an unlikeable person.
Now liu xueyi I quite like and am hoping this is his big break, after getting so many crappy scripts the past years.
Ι haven’t watched any of Yang Mi dramas, but the way she’s hated by internet loonies makes me kind of like her. On the other hand, I love Liu Xueyi. So I’ll be watching.
