The recent brouhaha over “Foundation General Gate” with Zhang Ling He may end up being great for his career. I could be wrong but it’s not actually tanked it. So far he’s been the face of the criticism against period dramas prioritizing visuals aesthetics over proper period realism stemming from Pursuit of Jade, but the SARFT blame is on the production companies and makeup/costume people and not necessarily on the actors being styled to be flower boy generals. While this has been going on for some time, PoJ tipped the balance by their promotions really pushing Zhang Ling He’s General character visuals while claiming the portrayal was really on point thereby angering netizens and entertainment bigwigs. But once any scandal hits the nadir it will wane and everyone moves on to the next hot topic. And now reportedly Zhang Ling He’s next upcoming drama the Republic era romance Overdo with Wang Chu Ran has seen its reservations spike in the last week showing that this so-called negative publicity on him has actually led to more interest in him. I call this losing small and winning big lol.

I just started to watch Princess Agents sequel: Rebirth. Talking about warrior’s appearance, Li Yunrui in Rebirth looked more deserving of the “foundation general” diss than ZLH in PoJ. lol. White powder on LYR’s face couldn’t be unseen. lol. I think the PD for PoJ/Blossoms has a knack for making his heroes look incredibly handsome. lol
Rebirth is a disappointment by far given that I liked Li Yunrui very much in Blossoms, and the PD directed the Double.
Bad acting at least in the first few eps of Rebirth, mainly from the FL and the 2nd ML who took most of the screen time. Zhang Kang Le as Yan Xun lost all the charisma Shawn Dou had in volume 1. He is too green for that complicated character. I saw this casting failure instantly after he’s on screen for 5 minutes straight with dead eyes like a deer in the headlights. lol. Huangyang Tian Tian overacted again.
C’mon, C-ent! There are other more talented actors but still young who are better fits for the roles. Xia Meng as Zhao Chun Er outshone the FL. XM is talented and good looking; she already showed quite an acting range although she’s only 24 yrs old, like a female version of Wang Xingyue. But why did she keep getting supporting roles while other theatrical clowns ruined iconic roles in big IPs? lol.

Out of curiosity, I searched up that “racist” claim. I watched the clip where he made the remark described as “racism.” People deliberately took it out of context. It’s a neutral comment about Tian Xiwei’s beautiful drawing of his facial feature. Yes, TXW did a pretty drawing of him with beautiful double eye lids that are not that common among ordinary Chinese. ZLH just said that “looks like SE Asian.” Everyone in the show laughed. How’s that offensive? It’s a cute remark. While I consider the drawing is a compliment to his more outstanding facial feature, many hating him spreading it in a negative light. Excuse me! Another thing is that, fans of a few C-actors like Cheng Yi, Zhao Liying, Yang Zi, and Gong Jun definitely don’t read this blog. That’s why articles related to those actors often get negative and mocking comments.
But one thing is sure. Among readers, most of them are XZ fans. That’s why his articles often get almost zero negative comments. Now it seems the next actor who gets mockery in the comment section is ZLH. But he is lucky compare to actors like Cheng Yi. There are a few fans here to defend him.

Why is the female lead styling very similar to korean manhwa Serena?like it’s so uncanny.And to talk about the male lead it’s like European theme mahnwa style rather than usual chinese period drama.
Previous chinese republic drama like sparrow, mystic nine styling were so raw that we could see differences in timeline but this one seems just a proper imitation of mahnwas styling.
