MBC to Cut the Historical Distortation Coronation Scene From Perfect Crown Hoping to End Controversy After Netizens Demand the Entire Drama be Pulled
I hope this is the beginning of this controversy dying down and is probably the only result that can placate the public and also let this drama stay streaming. MBC announced this week that it will cut the coronation scene from Perfect Crown for all streaming and broadcast. Never mind that narratively it was an important scene and also grandly filmed, if removing it will eliminate the source of netizen ire about details that it found incorrect and offensive to national pride then it’s a good decision on MBC. If netizens want to continue to beat the dead horse now on this issue then it will no longer get as much traction, and then the next news topic will arise in the real world for them to move on to. Netizens are also pulling prior interviews on this drama and being judgy that IU and Byun Woo Seok shared the PD was so proud of the final product he told them this drama would make them superstars. Also Gong Seung Yeon‘s interview on a variety show was cut by 10 minutes when she spoke about the drama, a Korean government initiative to provide funding for dramas that expand the culture is reportedly reviewing whether to demand the return of the funding provided for this drama, and a planned tourism campaign to highlight the filming locations for this drama for tourists to visit has been scrapped. This is just an unfortunate situation all around.
