Romance C-dramas Love for You with Song Wei Long and Zhang Jing Yi and Road to Success with Yu Shu Xin and Chen Jing Ke Premieres Adding Two New Options to Watch
I was busy last week so these two dramas sorta air dropping caught me off guard but it’s great to see two buzzy new options arrive to give viewers more choices this summer. Love For You (Chinese title 野狗骨头 Ye Go Gu To or Wild Dog Bone) is airing on Hunan TV and streaming on Mango, starring Song Wei Long and Zhang Jing Yi in a fauxcest grew up together but not related so can safely fall in love as adults romance. Over oniQiyi the platform just released Road to Success (Chinese title 灿如繁星 Can Ru Fang Xing or Bright Like a Star) with Yu Shu Xin and Chen Jing Ke set in the world of a high school soccer team. I’m interested in both and feel like there is plenty of runway for both to do well and not see this as a zero sum competition, so I hope both are good in its own way.

Zhang Jingyi is gorgeous but I’ve seen her act the depressed teenager role a million times now.
I watched both for the first few eps, I dont like Love For You, after just watched the Reborn of Zhang Jingyi, her expression always serious and sad. I love Road To Success, light heart romance and love between students/coaches/parents…
He still can’t act at all but he is very pretty. She needs to start diversifying the roles she takes. In Zanghai her acting was the obvious weakness along with Zhou Qi and she won’t improve if this is what she does.
Her scenes were the only ones I fast forwarded. I think she looks alot better in modern drama.
Watched 2 eps of each.
Road to Success – Esther is alot better when she isn’t using her cutesy voice. However I found myself being more interested in the soccer team than the romance and mystery surrounding the two leads. If I continue later I would probably only watch the boys.
Love for You – Feels like I’ve seen this plot many times. Cinematography and actors are beautiful. But I don’t have any desire to go back to it.
The novel based on esthers drama was never solely focused on the leads and the leads were more or less a support but a necessary support to the story of the soccer kids. It was a different sort of story for sure but nicely told. In fact there was barely any couple intimacy at all. It would be interesting to see how they translate this into the drama. Her story character gets more focused towards the end and their romance is like a smidge but still touching. I personally believe visually she seems to resemble the characterization. But I will wait to watch it because I have so many other dramas I’m watching and want to pace myself.
SWL and ZJY are so so pretty together.
SWL looks gooooddd in LFY. Not really into ZJY’s acting but i prefer this drama. I got bored watching the first 6 episodes of RTS. Esther is pretty on it.
Blossom Of Power is my current fave. The plot, acting and chemistry, i choose this one.
I agree that Blossom of Power is interesting; it is actually the only C-drama I am currently following. I tried watching several other recent C-dramas but dropped them all. While many people complain about Meng Ziyi, I think she is a much better actress compared to so many other boring options out there. She carries the female lead role in BoP really well.
The male lead, He Yu, is particularly worth a mention. He already impressed me in Speed and Love, and he has impressed me once again in BoP. He possesses the genuine “male lead material” that is seriously lacking in many other C-drama actors today. HY’s aura is unique.
I gave Love for You a chance because of Zhang Jingyi, but the storylines are incredibly unrealistic and cringeworthy. lol. It is simply not up my alley. Passing on all Esther Yu dramas. she’s just not FL material
