Gong Jun Does Comedic Wuxia in First C-drama Trailer as the Titular The Legend of Lu Xiaofeng
It’s been five years since wuxia C-drama Word of Honor delivered a career breakthrough for Gong Jun but he’s not been able to have another such performance or reception in any drama since then. This might be the closest attempt to capture that lightning in a bottle with wuxia C-drama The Legend of Lu Xiaofeng, with him playing the titular playboy character with lots of dude friends and flirting all around with the guys and girls. The cheesy thin moustache is silly looking but part of the character lore in the source wuxia novel so just taking in the whole first trailer as a whole I kinda like it! Or maybe it was keeping my expectations so low and also being in the mood I thought it was just dorky enough to be charming.

He suits wuxias really well. Word of Honor and Blood River are his best works to date.
So he will have a harem? Giving Guardians of Dafeng and Joy of life vibes with the humor. Just not sure if it will have much of a plot based on the trailer. Feels very chill. Guess we will see when the time comes.

I’m excited for a comedic wuxia! Happy to see my favorite funny guy – Chang Long. I also see handsome Quan Yi Lun and scene-stealer Li Qing. And this role seems like it will fit Gong Jun better than a ML in a romantic period drama. From the cast list, seems like quiet a few familiar actresses guesting in this too.

I like that he wants to do his own voicing, but bro needs to work on his line delivery. I don’t speak the language, but that why I know it’s bad when I can hear how choppy and unnatural he sounds. There are reviewers (who speak Mandarin) that get on Zhang Ling He’s case for line delivery, but at least he has a smooth sounding cadence. Lol. I miss WOH days, so I’ll tune in to see if it works. Gong Jun’s actually such a poor fighter though. Just as stiff as his voice acting. Haha. It’s obvious when his stunt doubles step in. Sigh. Maybe he’s just not cut out for acting? 🤷🏻♂️ I’m so conflicted because I like him and I liked him so much in WOH, but he hasn’t been able to convince me he’s any of the characters he’s played since WOH. He performed 90% of his own stunts in Blood River. He got a good reputation because of his stunts in BR. He found his forte in wuxia.
