Zhang Ling He and Lu Yu Xiao’s Upcoming Period C-drama Revenge Reportedly Changing Director After the Complaints About the Directing in Overdo
Lol, I don’t think the valid complaints on C-drama Overdo are solely with the director Yi Jun, but he’s certainly a part of it and will reportedly feel the first blow back. C-ent gossip says he’s been swapped out as the director for the upcoming period drama Revenge (Ci Tang 刺棠) and the production is currently in talks with a few other directors. The drama earlier got some buzz with the casting of Zhang Ling He and Lu Yu Xiao, as well as the usual fandom bickering. It’s supposed to start filming in early September so hopefully the production can line up a more capable director by then, and while I don’t think the Overdo director was that awful his directing choices were really bad for this drama and it’s probably good that he’s not reuniting with Zhang Ling He for another go-around.
The Overdo director is so unserious, I feel the entire drama is supposed to be a meta parody of melodramas.
After watching Overdo and Pursuit of Jade, I can conclude that Zhang Linghe is only in dramas to serve looks. Not complaining though, he’s definitely hot. But I can’t help feel like his character is only there to simp for the female lead while the female leads have their own stuff to do. Am caught up to latest ep of Overdo and Wang Churan’s character is busy seeking revenge while he just chases after her meaninglessly lol.
I shamelessly admit I watch ZLH purely for his looks. Him serving me eye candy is certainly a great way to unwind from the toils and tribulations of everyday life lol.
Lucky Zhanglinghe. Poor Wangchuran stuck with overdo director for second time since it’s almost done filming. She need to be more picky and at least audition for better production team instead accepting any drama. I guess that’s the drawback not signing with experience agency. You have less choice. Idk how long the contract with her agency last.
How bad is Overdo? I have very low desire to watch ANY C period dramas, regardless of cast, productions, ratings, or reviews. The historical context of that era just sucks. Period. lol
Look Overdo is such a funny watch. It has every melodramatic trope of every republican era drama ever made. All while stylistically looking like a bit like a vertical or short drama. The Ai looks like my brother with no experience did it lol. Still for those who fear to watch it. I would say watch to be entertained. It is such a novella. All I have to say is the poor main leads. How many times is he going to suffer?like that is my one gripe. Yes he is a dumb simp for the selfish main female lead but all republican era dramas are like this. 🤷🏻♀️
Wangchuran is not a good actresss. Her male leads always carry her. Overdo reveals her inability to carry a show.
I think zlh is the only one carrying this drama. In my opinion his acting here is good despite his flat chemistry w wangchuran.
I honestly can’t take the plot of Overdo seriously. It’s overdone on all levels! lol. At this point, I’m officially giving Chinese period dramas the death penalty – absolutely NO HOPE left! 💀😂
