Talk about a legit come from nowhere air drop. There wasn’t even rumors this one was on deck but then it decided to go to bat on a random Tuesday. Hunan TV and Mango produced period politics and romance C-drama Royal Betrothal with the Chinese title Yu Ting Yao 御庭谣 based on the novel Jiang Shan Wei Ping 江山为聘 or A Kingdom as Dowry premiered this Tuesday July 28th with zero promotion. Starring Wu Jin Yan and Chen Zhe Yuan, I’m not sure the drama air dropping is a sign of lack of confidence of the production or just an attempt to squeeze it into the summer months in hopes of more viewership. July hasn’t seen a breakout hit yet, Love for You, Blossoms of Power, and Overdo all aired to varying degrees of middling reception or heightened criticism so the competition isn’t fierce right now. Might as well slide in and see if viewers look at this one more fondly.
