Period C-drama Royal Betrothal with Wu Jin Yan and Chen Zhe Yuan Airdrops on Hunan TV and Mango Tuesday July 28th — 15 Comments

  1. He is hilariously bad in it.

I feel sorry for her but hopefully next time she won’t say yes to acting with people like him.

      • Thought I was the only one that couldn’t stand him in this drama. Dude acting is terrible, mediocre at best. Even as a king,he’s so stiff, not to mention the robe kind of looks too big on him.
Wonder why WJY said yes to this.

      • The why is often popularity and being able to drum up investments into the drama. It’s all about the money because it takes money to make a drama that audience can ooh and ahh over the beautiful clothes and sets.

I usually don’t think CZY is that bad, but he’s actually pretty bad in this, almost like he’s taking acting lessons from those AI-generated vertical dramas and regressing. It’s a shame because he can be better than this.

Luckily, he doesn’t have that much screentime and the drama has a lot of other interesting characters and actresses and actors.

    • He shamelessly latched on to this project. Wu Jinyan was cast first. He had connections with one of the producers and forced the production company to give him equal billing. Yu Zheng was very angry and posted about this multiple times.

  2. I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far. It was engaging from the 1st episode, ans you know a drama is good when you keep hitting next episode even though it’s 2AM.

  3. I like her but he’s sooo offputting. The way he always fights for first billing with his more famous female co-stars, and his horrendous acting on screen. just terrible. and he’s not even handsome. just not a single redeeming quality.

  4. As expected, the same group of detractors rushed in with scathing criticism. Ppl previously mocked CZY relentlessly. To judge for myself, I watched most of his dramas and found his acting perfectly fine in every single one. Before that, I had no strong impression of him at all.

Lately, people have been seething over Zhang Linghe’s breakout success in Pursuit of Jade. I decided to watch most of his dramas to see if he was truly as bad as mockers claimed. My verdict? The detractors are simply insecure and anxious about the careers of their own favorite actors. lol. Before this, I rarely watched his work.

Now, I am definitely going to check this latest drama out because the detractors are simply too loud to ignore. In a sense, their constant noise is just free promotion for the production team. lol. I wouldn’t want to watch the drama right now though as my watchlist is completely full after coming back from vacation. Off to see CZY soon. It’s Friday! lol.

    • It’s so hypocritical of them, actually. They have no problem throwing insults and outright lies at actors they hate, but the moment anyone says a word about their favorite, they act completely offended.

  5. Just watched the first 3 episodes, and it’s not bad at all! Both CZY and WJY are solid actors who really deliver when they’re given the right roles. Honestly, this is the only C-drama besides Blossoms of Power that has actually caught my interest since Pursuit of Jade. Every other C drama has been a letdown.

  6. This series is getting really interesting. I love the direction the narrative is taking. It has a much stronger investigative focus. Compared with Unveil: Jadewind starring Bai Lu and Wang Xingyue, this drama is way more engaging with better acting and much better directed, even though it obviously has a questionable budget.
