iQiyi Releases Picturesque Concept Posters for Just Started Filming Period Romance C-drama A Journey to Glow with Zhao Jin Mai and Wang An Yu
I feel like a parched traveler in the desert to see teaser stills for a recently started filming C-drama, so thank you A Journey to Glow! It was indeed a journey to get this made, with the drama announced soon after A Journey to Love did well during its airing and then getting softly greenlit for Yu Shu Xin as the female lead and later landed Wang An Yu as the male lead. Then last summer she had a small-ish scandal and the drama pivoted to look for a new female lead and after a few names were floated the role went to Zhao Jin Mai, who has been doing a nice job toggling between period and modern roles. The drama recently started production so will film through the summer which is a great season to capture the picturesque locales of the historical Jiangnan area which you can see in the first teaser stills as backdrops for the leads to hang out together.
These look lovely! But then iQiyi will give it a horrible Ai generated, smoothed out, romance generic official poster.
Looking forward to this drama. Wang Anyu’s look here is an improvement from his previous costume drama look.
I like both leads individually and they look good together too, based on these stills. ZJM is a chemi master so I’m looking forward to see how their chemistry plays out on screen.
i’ll give zjm props for her great diction and actings in thriller dramas but constructively, she is frankly not the desirable choice to watch when it comes to romance. that’s why i have doubts about a journey to glow.
she is the weakest of the 00-flower group and strictly in the drama lane. compared to the top flowers/reputable award winners like zhang zifeng, wen qi, li gengxi and liu haocun (yes even with bad romance dramas, she’s a zhang yimou girl), she’s not gotten a breakout in film.
she’s in wandering earth but was criticized as a kid actor and if she wants to be at the top, she needs to be engaging for the third film to be crossing over full time.
i don’t have a problem with her, i just don’t like her fans/management team’s tactics and obsessive cp cling on to rps. she can do more than just romance. she excels in thrillers and non-romance series.
Don’t blame her management because what she wants is to become a traffic actress first, before transitioning to become a serious actress when she becomes older (like what Yang Zi did). Traffic actresses earn more from endorsements and magazines.
Those actresses you mentioned wants to be serious actresses. And frankly speaking, they have better resources as well to be able to walk that route.
I don’t like her in romance either. She is frankly speaking, not pretty enough and her figure is bad. She looks disastrous next to Liu Haochun, her fellow Miu Miu ambassador. Liu Haocun doesn’t even need to stick to romance and couple pairings to become as popular as her, because she is gorgeous.
However non-attractive women like Yang Zi and Esther Yu can become popular, she would succeed too if she continues to work with hot guys like Zhang Linghe and Song Weilong; and getting people to ship her with them.
i do find her a good actress (not romance tho) but these fans and team’s tactics can skew one’s view of her.
i’ve seen more passerby posts (gp types, not fans) on zhihu, db, dy, wb and xhs call out their nature. how they don’t police these fans behavior is odd, since most stars are asked to calm fans down with messages. it gives the illusion she comes off clean while those around her aren’t.
clinging onto dead ships is 1000% next level delulu from these people. wang anyu is actually the same type of handsome as swl and zlh by the gp but these fans only want to associate her with the latter two.
general audience is not shipping her with song weilong and zhang linghe, it’s cp fans that favor her side of metrics and water armies. both swl and zlh fans want this obsession to stop and both had other dramas aired with more success after og/som.
there’s also yang xiaopei (xixi pictures head producer who backed som), who is notorious for still “selling packages” after her broadcast drama ends. you’d think she would make more noise for landing zls her comeback drama. long tail effect for som is non existent.
yxp was the one who clearly behind “i am bobo,” the guerlain china pr director’s stunt with her xhs vlog, the illegal screen recording of a som group dinner after his busan win as if it were just him and zjm like a couple, they were trying to revive the dead ship when his show love for you was newly airing and doing a public press event in beijing.
the fact his fans and gp called it out, the backlash so bad bobo took it down off her xhs. made it worse knowing this was around the eve of zhang jingyi’s birthday.
didn’t help either when swl liked shady posts on weibo about image rights after that stunt and now his fans are making sure to boycott guerlain while driving up sales from his other endorsements.
I find her ugly like a deformed frog-human hybrid.
Can’t believe people says zhao jinmai is ugly, she is clearly so pretty and cute(?)
