Script Reading Stills of Park Jin Young and Kim Yoo Jung Leading Strong Cast for Upcoming Colonial Period K-drama 100 Days of Deception
The timing almost feels too on the nose, with the first script reading stills out for upcoming colonial-era period K-drama 100 Days of Deception on the heels of K-ent still abuzz with talk about ancestors of one actress during that era being a Japanese collaborator. Dramas set during that era usually do well, some recent ones include critically acclaimed Mr. Sunshine and mixing monsters with politics in Gyeongseong Creature, and of course oldies like Gaksital (Bridal Mask). 100 Days of Deception stars Kim Yoo Jung as a female pickpocket that does undercover for the resistance fighters movement with the Japanese colonial government and crossing paths with Park Jin Young as a Joseon-born Korean interpreter for the Japanese. Rounding out the main cast are veterans Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng, and Jin Seon Kyu. This drama is totally on my excited to watch list.
Interesting that these two are doing this sort of themed drama. It just seems random. She is more experienced in historical setting but not sure she has done this era and I can’t remember the main actor in any historical roles. Hope they do well. Probably would be a tear jerker drama since this era rarely is ever presented so happily what with the Japanese government takeover back then.
I find the colonial period really hard to watch (made an exception for Chicago Typewriter because I didn’t expect to spend so much time in that period), but I wish them well! I hope this drama can get film and aired without controversy as it’s such a powder-keg of a time period.
Chicago typewriter is definitely the best, it’s the only one from that genre I watched enjoyably
Like Chinese Republic-era dramas, Korean colonial-era dramas hold no appeal for me. The only exception I enjoyed was Bridal Mask, as its plot felt independent of politics.
To be clear, I do not support colonialism. However, under South Korea’s current left-leaning ruling party, producing dramas that highlight the struggle against Japanese colonial rule has clearly become the politically correct norm for the entertainment industry. Given the worsening relationships between the US and S. Korea, as well as Japan and S. Korea, it wouldn’t surprise me if the industry eventually starts producing stories critical of the US military presence there as well. lol.
As an American taxpayer who funds our military overseas, I say: South Koreans, please let US soldiers withdraw completely from the peninsula, just as Lee Jae-myung wishes. lol.
While Japanese colonialism during WWII wasn’t commendable, using entertainment to stoke anti-Japan sentiment today is just stupid. Japan controls the critical chemicals needed for South Korea’s semiconductor industry, which heavily drives their GDP and stock market. Why would anyone want to deepen the distrust between these two countries? Have South Koreans already forgotten the lessons from Japan’s previous chemical embargo? lol. LJM is just as short-sighted and stupid as his idol, Winnie the Pooh! lol
This is such a pretty pairing. I don’t watch Kdramas in general anymore but would tune in to see this.
