Tencent Big Budget Period C-drama Revenge with Zhang Ling He and Lu Yu Xiao Kicks Off Filming and Releases First Teaser Posters
After so much behind-the-scenes drama around the casting and production prep for period politics and romance C-drama Revenge it’s a relief to see the drama actually start filming. Starring Zhang Ling He and Lu Yu Xiao, the two play young sweethearts torn apart when his crown prince character is assassinated and she marries his younger brother the new crown prince to investigate and avenge him. He comes back with a new face and identity for revenge which includes her since he thinks she betrayed him. Zhang Ling He in character looks like Pei Wen Xuan from The Princess Royal if he actually followed through with a revenge plot, and Lu Yu Xiao is kinda unrecognizable to me she either has a new face or the hair/makeup is just that change inducing. A few interesting other cast members include typical female lead Liang Jie taking a second female lead role here and Wang Hong Yi as the third male lead except he’s actually playing the pre-assassination crown prince so the version before Zhang Ling He takes over. Lol, I hope the actual S+ budget drama is as interesting as the drama has been to cover from its production tea.

It’s the editing of the poster. It makes her look to glossed over. Because the regular still on the bottom is recognizable. Not sure if she has spotted this look in other drama with the hair that is. I’m getting revenge vibes from the poster so we will see if these two can make it work.
‎lu yu xiao is cute but her face rather plain so it can be shaped into different characters with make up and lighting
LXY is beautiful. but she doenst have pronounced facial features. so she looks different in almost her dramas. thats good for her and us. we wont get bored with her look in dramas
I hope this drama will be good…
I’m kinda disappointed with her looks now, she has gone the usual slim down route, and looks generic now. I really prefer her slightly chubby face, it was a very natural and fresh look. Loved her acting in Love Between Lines and Love In The Clouds.
Bringing these two fandoms together will definitely generate a lot of buzz and viewership! I’m not usually a fan of LYX, but I watched Love in the Clouds for Hou Minghao and ended up really liking LYX’s character and acting. That said, she still needs to work on her breathy line delivery. lol.
I’m noticing a trend of faster plot pacing in Cdramas lately, probably inspired by short drama that is a really good sign. Thanks to these positive changes, I’ve gradually started enjoying Chinese costume dramas a lot more. Hopefully, this one won’t disappoint!
I hope they can quietly go on filming this and we won’t have to hear their fandoms throwing tantrums until the drama airs
I haven’t seen LXY in anything; she’s “new” to me. But Zhang Linghe is hit-or-miss. He tends to struggle to really let go in his acting without the director’s help. Lol. So, I hope he’s at least serviceable here. I like his visuals, but I haven’t been able to overlook his dull performances in the past.
100% agree. Actors like Wei Zheming or Liu Haocun give their best even in projects with poor production. Zhang Linghe was pleasant in Chasing Jade and I was tempted to watch his previous dramas. But I was disappointed after disappointment. His performances were dull, he looked like he was acting just to get the paycheck. So kudos to Zeng Qingjie for making a mediocre actor shine. I see the same thing happened with Li Yunrui in Blossom. Well, I can name many actors who do not have autonomy when it comes to polishing or doing their job well. The audience accepts the bare minimum, which is why we’re in where we are.
Lu Yu Xiao was solid early in her career, but her skills have since declined. She is comfortable with mediocrity too, as reflected in her half-hearted line/speech delivery.
I like Chinese actresses and actors’ visuals. I’ve come across a variety of facial features and structures while watching C-dramas. They might be my biggest source of motivation when I decide to play one. Lol. It’s like a guilty pleasure.
When it comes to artistic values, South Korea is right up my alley. Japanese dramas also tend to be lackluster, and I rarely see any discussion about the issue. They usually have far fewer episodes than C-dramas, so maybe their shorter length makes them relatively less tedious.
