Wu Jin Yan and Deng Kai Confirmed for Tencent Period C-drama Legally Ladies
Well good for these two to land a new C-drama that is set to start production soon. C-ent is reporting that Wu Jin Yan and Deng Kai will star in Tencent period drama Legally Ladies (刀笔娘子 Dao Bi Niang Zi), which is such a modern English title I keep doing double takes haha. The drama is about three sisters who use their pen as a sword to give rights to the poor and oppressed women in their era by being their advocates under the law. They will also investigate crimes and it’s generally a rah rah strong and resilient women type of story, which honestly seems to hit the spot with viewers when done right such as recently with Against the Current. Playing the younger sisters will be Huang Yi and Zheng He Hui Zi so a solid trio of actresses who hopefully have be buttressed by interesting plot lines and capable directing.
At least its not romance focused. I had a hard time watching Wu Jinyan’s drama with Chen Zheyuan because she looks like an auntie trying to act young.
I wonder what happened to those who enjoyed The Double or Love and Destiny? Would their brains go to sleep to ignore the age gap?
I tried to watch Love and Destiny but Chang Cheng looks like Ni Ni’s uncle, sorry.
Li Haocun’s next drama with Huang Xuan also gives me ick. He could easily play her father.
Or Hou Minghao with Ai Mi.😭
@HHH What is the auntie look exactly? I thought it’s when someone looks frumpy and out of style?
@JJJ The Double was fine, but I wasn’t keen on some of the things they changed in the drama. Hou Minghao and Ai Mi’s pairing visually was fine. Story-wise, it was appropriate as well (he’s supposed to be a seasoned general and she’s supposed to be someone just on the age of getting betrothed). His character was written well, you can’t help rooting for him after a few episodes.
If the script/dialogue is good and the acting is immersive, I ignore real life stuff.
@Snails. The problem is that Wu Jin Yan acts alongside actors with whom she isn’t visually compatible at all. Chen Zheyuan has a boyish look which doesn’t blend well with hers. There are visually sexy actors out there who would be a better match for her.
Neo Hou’s face looks melted due to excessive cosmetic procedures, combined with filters and makeup… He, Ding Yuxi, and Meng Ziyi could easily be considered the holy trinity of plastic visuals lol. In South Korea, there’s Lim Jiyeon, but she’s such a powerhouse as an actor. Her skills shield her from scrutiny.
I’m hoping for a good script and decent chemistry.
What an awkward title. I hope they change it before airing. But wow, I’m excited for the cast! I hope the writing measures up.
Zheng He HuiZi will steal the show again
WJY didn’t look good in the drama with Chen Zheyuan. That plot is boring too because of the script. But she just returned from her maternity leave when filming that drama. I hope she will be in a better condition for this new project.
