Youku Premieres Tian Xi Wei in Dual Role Revenge and Plotting Period C-drama Where the Mask Ends — 22 Comments

  1. I dropped it because holy hell, talk about appalling acting by her. Not wasting my time in that, too many other things as options.

  2. I recently saw clips of 2 new Taiwanese dramas, the quality is just quite amazing. I really feel TW dramas is making good comeback, I rather less heart-wrenching storylines but it has its own flavour. Artistes can look good without those filters, fillers, makeup etc.. most important, ageism is not as big a issue.

    • I have been an old fan of Taiwanese series back in the day, so I kinda miss their vibe. What are the new series you mentioned before?

      • Miracles of ER and Our Blues. Strong cast with stable acting experience. You should watch the clips…it is really good.

    • Yes, Taiwanese dramas are really good. It’s often difficult to find where to watch them. netflix doesn’t always get the right ones. it’s a shame they don’t release them regularly. there are very few productions each year. they are really good at thrillers and slice-of-life social drama.

      • Netflix will be airing Miracles of ER… unsure about Our Blues. I do like good looking faces on screen but some of the ones we see on China dramas are just unrealistic.

  3. I must be the only one not impressed with Pursuit of Jade nor ZLH. It wasn’t bad, but it’s not great either. And definitely not a drama I would recommend. TXW was ok, but not superb great also. Don’t understand the hype.

  4. I like TXW but I feel like she didn’t do a really good job at making the two characters feel different especially with her eye expression. I never felt much of the difference. As for the ml, I never saw his work before but he is a handsome guy but his acting is very bad. No emotions at all and doesn’t have the charasmatice screen presence. Despite all of this I still enjoy the story itself.

  5. Drama is interesting so far. But there isn’t much distinction between the evil heiress and the soil collector – both appear to be ruthless and scheming. TXW’s acting might be the problem here, but I think the writing is at fault too for not making the two personalities distinct enough.

  6. I loved Pursuit of Jade and I thought Tian Xiwei was the best part of it acting wise (I liked ZLH too, they had great chemistry) so I’ll give this a try, at least cdrama episodes move quickly.

  7. The clips I’ve seen of her in this drama has been super dramatic and exaggerated acting. Not sure if that’s how the character is supposed to be, but it doesn’t come across as very good acting.

    • Think about Kim So Yeon in the Penthouse. But she’s got a lot of fans for that theatrical acting. lol. TXW’s hyperbola expressions as a crazy bitch here is nothing compared with KSY in the Penthouse. lol

  8. on the first day the drama premiered, she’s trending for her poor acting. to quote one rs saying as bad as zhou Ye. her performance is highly exaggerated, leading people to wonder where she got her degree too. i have to say, her agency is very efficient. Their large-scale marketing and the way they scrub negative opinions is both rapid and highly effective. i don’t think she’s necessarily as bad as to say on zhou ye standard which has already trended three times for bad acting another 2 times after her drama ended, her talent. tian xiwei can be more expressive.

    • Hey, I noticed this too. Even those accounts I consider “reliable” drama reviewers changed their tone after a day or two but I have eyes too and I can’t see what’s good about her acting. Her team is formerly Deng Lun’s so that’s her reliable backers for sure.

  9. I like TXW after POJ because I love her and Zhang Linghe’s chemistry very much. I watched the first five episodes and was quite disappointed with the performance. I feel TXW could have done better portraying the two characters’ different personalities. At times I can’t differentiate between A-Chou and Wei-Rao, because they’re both two dramatic. I also read the novel, and it is not as excellent, but I still hope the drama is better. I don’t quite like how TXW always widened her eyes dramatically to show her anger and hatred for both characters. For the ML, he’s very bad at acting, though; this is my very first time seeing him. The chemistry is not bad; I like them as a couple. It’s like every other Thai drama of this genre. I hope it gets better as the drama progresses and is not like Overdo, which was very bad written and failed to deliver. Another dramatic Thai genre. For the acting, TXW still needs a lot of improvement, just like Zhang Linghe. Her acting is not the best, but at least it’s better than POJ and her other dramas I’ve tried to watch, but sadly I haven’t managed to finish any. But I’ll still continue to watch it until the end to see how the drama unfolds, though I already predicted the ending.

  10. It has been years since director/producers can pick suitable artistes for the right roles.. these days it is down to investors. Such a shame to watch quality of dramas going downhill due to badly casted actors and even supporting cast are affected too.

  11. Dropped it. First of all, she really looks like an insect, so please don’t shoot her in close-up. And no matter how hard she tries to convey emotions through her facial expressions, I just can’t feel any of them. But she’s reached the point where her fans will love anything she’s in, even if it’s complete shit, just like with other idols.

  12. The Pursuit of Jade is the only drama starring Tian Xiwei that has impressed me so far. She did well enough in that role to raise fans’ expectations of her, so I will definitely check out her newest one later. Right now, I am hooked on a ridiculous but addictive K-drama called The Penthouse: War in Life. lol

    • She has potential. If anything she will learn from the feedback of this drama and continue on. She is not a bad actress. There is always room for growth.

  13. I watched the first few eps. While the plot has the potential to be as addictive as Against the Current, the direction just isn’t up to par. The direction in AtC was already pedestrian, but this show is riddled with flaws. The ML’s acting is green and TXW is trying way too hard lol. I even dozed off a couple of times, but I’ll stick around for upcoming episodes out of pure curiosity about the plot.

  14. I am the exception here that I like the drama. FL is decent and ML is cold and with charisma but I like how the FL has schemed and kept herself safe. A bonus is that it is only 14 episodes so no filler. I drop dramas easily so the fact that I have kept watching shows its entertaining enough.

  15. I am trying.

But there is just almost no difference between AChou and Wei Rao… Oh the tone.. yes the tone is quite different when Wei Rao tries to act nice.

TXW is tiny and with the full regalia of the dresses she looks like she will be taken out by the wind. She is way overdressed here than New Journey Begins.

    !!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!
With the latest episode, I’m actually thinking AChou is even the real Wei Rao with that child incident then.

The spoiled Wei Rao is just too unbelievable she has a murderous streak every single day.

The episodes are just going along who will discover the secret, what is being done and how will AChou deflect all actions which they made an excuse that the place she lived before was a mecca of literate and street smart outcasted citizens.
