It’s so great that Im Shi Wan continues to be one of the most diverse and versatile actors of his generation, and still astonishing to take in since he started off as an idol. He has a Coupang Play drama coming out soon called Boyhood with female lead Lee Sun Bin and supporting stars Lee Si Woo and Kang Hye Won. It’s set in the 1980’s and centers around high school students in Chungcheong province where Im Shi Wan’s character transfers to and ends up suddenly known as the best fighter in school when previously he was bullied. It’s a heartwarming funny coming-of-age story from the PD of The Fiery Priest and One Fine Day.
His filmography sure is diverse and he seems to have an eye in picking projects and rising up to the challenge.
He’s 35, for crying out loud.
I like both leads and they look young for their age, BUT NOT HIGH-SCHOOL YOUNG.
Many people complain about adults playing high school aged characters but I support this for many reasons.
1. Young actors hardly have depth to play such characters.
2. I am not sure about entertainment labor laws in other countries but the idea of teenagers working full time and supporting their families financially always makes me uncomfortable and watching/supporting this content feels like promoting it.
3. Some of the love stories always feel too dramatic for teenagers. Many teenagers date their boyfriends short-term and break up when going to college or in college. Then they move on to live their lives. WHen adults play the romeo and juliet level romance it reminds me that its just a drama so just relax and enjoy it for what it is.
