So there is a bit of bad publicity is better than no publicity. C-actress Yu Shu Xin has been criticized in C-drama after C-drama where she dubs her own character and chooses to use an absolutely ear numbing cutesy voice. The only time she didn’t that I recollect was when she dubbed her dark assassin character in My Journey to You. It’s not how she really talks, she does have a higher pitched girly voice but the added nasally cuteness usually reserved for anime female characters is her own contribution. Reportedly the feedback has gotten so bad industry insiders and even her project investors are pushing hard for her to stop it. Her and her team acknowledges the criticism but feel like her voice always being a topic of discussion adds buzz and if she were to change it she would need to first have a new persona and image lined up before she gives up this one as this is the one she is known for at this time.
Imagine thinking your annoying voice gives u buzz than your acting talent. lol ~ I get what her team means but still.. They wanna milk it before she turns 30? She’ll be 29 this year so we shall see.. glad I only saw her briefly in MJTY~
I mean thats true she does look the most average out of all the actresses so she needs something else to stand out. Her fans do buy her cutesy act though so why change things that are not broken?
She can’t act, her face is plastic and still average so she is in a bad place, even with all the daddy’s money that keeps buying her place in dramas. That voice gives her attention, good and bad, and any attention is good in this business. She is getting too old for it though so is going to have to drop it soon in any case.
Let’s see how long her family’s real estate business can last and how long she can have that backing. China is on the train wreck to property meltdown cos of snowballing debts and tons of ghost towns. LOL
Damn it! You’re a freakin actresses. Act the part accordingly. No one is telling her to stop talking the way she wants, but stop interfering w/ the character itself. It’s so unprofessional and pays a part of her inability to portray the character. That response if true, it’s an indication that she is Clearly acting the part and now that it’s apart of her persona she wants to keep it & wont change. Whatever, I’m already gave up on that annoying voice & stop caring to watch her dramas
She can keep the persona, but just make sure her voice suits the character that she’s playing if she’s planning to dub herself. I haven’t watched her dramas all the way through to tell how descriptive her voice should be for her characters so no comments there.
Meh, still don’t care and don’t even think much of it. She might have some childish affectations in her voice, but that’s her style of speaking. It’s not always displayed, except where it’s apt. So in conclusion, affects me none.
LOL as if she can last long in the industry without that distracting voice. She doesn’t have visuals nor acting chops to sustain her acting career. The only thing she can brag about is her rich family’s backing of all her dramas. Let’s see how long she can last that way in the filming department. Chinese property tycoons are falling one by one and CCP has no cash to bail them out. Let’s see if her parents will be under the water soon. Financial meltdown of property sector is just like other markets, very hard to go against the odds of domino effects once a government has no leverage to bail them out. I correctly predicted China’s economy slow down and debt quagmire in 2018 when Trump launched the trade war with China. This time, the trouble has already started in the property sector. Esther Yu’s family has no way to be exempt from the trouble. It’s a systemic problem that every single stakeholder in that business will be heavily affected.
Esther Yu is a serviceable actress. She’s not top tier, but she emotes well and is watchable. The problem is that her high pitched baby voice isn’t doing her any favors and is detracting her from getting fans who would probably admire her if they could watch her work. But the baby voice is preventing that. Overall, I think it’s harming her more than helping her. She has reached a point in her career where she doesn’t have to enunciate like a baby to stand out, her past work should speak for itself. It’s a shame that the lack of confidence in her abilities is letting her go this route. Whenever I see her at award ceremonies or fashion shows she has this aura that she’s isolated and alone despite her wealth. Must be hard for her to deal with all the haters due to her family’s money. In my objective opinion, she isn’t the worst actress out there, she’s better than some and worse than others. I admire that she keeps persevering in what she wants to do despite all the criticism she receives.
I don’t think Esther is at top tier yet, if you were to compare her to the greats like Sun Li. But with time, I think she can harness more. I mean she’s better than some of the actresses that had gone to performing school, so I call that a win.
