Hu Xi Yuan’s Two Month Long Solo Green Screen Female Lead Replacement Filming for C-drama Love Never Fails Receives Poor Reception After Drama Airs
The premiere of long shelved xianxia C-drama Love Never Fails starring Liu Xue Yi with new female lead Hu Yi Xuan replacing cancelled actress Yuan Bing Yan has been received as well as expected. Namely, very poorly, with early reviews and feedback on the cheesy story and visuals. Hu Yi Xuan reportedly filmed for two whole months against a green screen by herself and none of the cast was brought back for re-shoots so she was spliced into the drama either wholescale or her face over Yuan Bing Yan’s body as applicable. The editing technology isn’t wholly sloppy or awkward but still not seamless, and Hu Yi Xuan is just not ready for female lead level screen time or aura but she’s about as good as the production can get to step in for this type of replacement filming. I couldn’t get past the first episode so didn’t watch enough to see the more scenes with her and with Liu Xue Yi to see if it gets smoother or remains that weirdly awkward.

I thought I saw on rednote ML was brought back to film some scenes with her, no?
Yes, I saw some BTS clip of FL&ML, also FL&SML. I don’t know how much scene they shot together but at least there were some. In one of online live broadcast Hu Yi Xuan said that she want to thanks to Liu Xue Yi the most because at the beginning of reshooting he said to her “You can act however you want, just act naturally, I will cooperate with you.” On the other hand I want to praise Liu Xue Yi youthfulness, I almost see no difference between four years ago him and recent days reshoot him.
Aweee…that’s sweet of him. FL must have a lot of pressure but then again she’s also there to help push the drama out.
She definitely has the most volumed and textured hair than any Xianxia female lead I have seen. Like a lions mane lol
It’s hard enough to act, let alone act in front of a green screen. The script not great to begin with so can’t blame HYX for trying. She’s a great actress but too bad she doesn’t get many lead roles do elevate her name.
I agree… like what the heck kind of miracles was anyone expecting? Either way it was filmed and had to be refilmed and patched together again like nothing happened. It is bound to have some flaws. Especially with ai face placement. That is if the script meet up to the hard work put forth too. Only so much she can do. I really miss her in lead roles though and it is a shame this is her comeback as a lead. She is a good actress and brave to even join this venture. But the main lead seems to be struggling to land a good project that excels well. He still gets lead roles but they have yet to be true hits.
I agree. I don’t think it is fair to use this drama to judge whether she’s ready to take the lead. Green-screen acting is its own beast and even veteran actors have trouble with it (either struggling or just plain hating it) and to do so much green screening for the sake of swapping out the FL’s face – is a lot to deal with. And the thing was originally filmed 4 years ago and I think cdrama scripting, production value, character archetypes, english title trends, voice dubbing, and even the skill of all the actors have changed since then.
The Chinese Netizen is always like that. They love to find weaknesses and then criticize. The media will happily jumping on the wagon. Not a nice people who support others work. Typical boring way, they will praise the second ML or FL heavily, say they play better than the lead. Luckily Chinese Actors/ Actresses stronger than korean. If you move Chinese Netizen and Media to South Korea probably we will hear actor/actresw commit suicide every week
The script is kinda awkward and makjang as usual for any costume Cdramas so I dont get the bad reviews on acting of any Cdrama actors/actresses. I liked what Ive seen from this drama so far and pairing has CP feelings even when they edited her face onto another actress’ body lol
