Yang Zi Confirmed for C-drama Born to be Alive with Special Guest Male Lead Hu Ge
C-actress Yang Zi continues her streak of top billing female lead empowerment themed dramas and with her wrapping up Family Business (Jia Ye) last month she’s headed to the filming set for her next drama already. iQiyi this week confirmed the C-drama of Born to be Alive (Chinese title Sheng Ming Shu 生命树 or Life Tree) and will star Yang Zi and the male lead will be Hu Ge who is billed as special guest male lead. It’s the usual wonky thing where his role is important as the male lead but the story is female lead centric and he doesn’t have that many scenes compared to her and to get an A-list of Hu Ge’s level the billing ended up being this way. It’s set in the 1990’s in the Tibetan Plateau and deals with the development of that very remote and poor area as the region is slowly lifted out of poverty.

According to the late and former CCP premier, there are at least 0.5 billion Chinese citizens living in poverty with monthly income barely making it to $1000 RMB. This is also reiterated by the renown Chinese economist currently working at Stanford University, Chenggang Xu. It’s more likely Tibetans, like folks in most of the remote regions in China, are still living in extreme poverty.
To be fair, almost every drama set in 80s or 90s without a romantic focus are propaganda tools for the PRC. This one also has a direct connection with a gov branch so… yeah. Well, at least the days of 50+ long costume dramas are over for Yz and she will have grest options moving forward.
But when the rumored cast name for this drama came out many people including many commenters here sweared that Zi was licking this drama and doing marketing to get it and that it’s not for her and that Hu Ge will not play 2nd billing to her and that she thinks too high of herself but now the drama is her’s, she is 1st billing and the drama has been given to her since 2022.
Anyways I’m happy and excited to see this drama and I know that the cast will not disappoint. Anyways I heard that HG character is her mentor who dies/disappears
I bet Yang Zi will be beautiful and work hard in a solid serious drama. It is kind of like Bai Lu’s Northward. Looking forward to this one.

Actually it has always been that way. Look at Empresses in the Palace, Legend of Miyue, Story of Yanxi Palace etc. But still, there must be variety in drama genres. All focusing on the same type of dramas will just fatigue the audience.

To be honest, I have never visited China, unsure about how it is living under CCP. But it does not distract me enjoying some Chinese dramas.
I would not say CCP reflects all of China. As China’s history/culture/traditional and food have exist longer than CCP. And those are what interest me. Let’s be honest, CCP censorship board has restrict the creativity of Producers filming more historial stories. Thus we are getting much less of those genre.
I do noticed dramas set in 1950s-early 1900s does not interest me as much unless the story is really good.
I dont think CCP reflect its people, and in dramas, it is the lives of regular people that interest me. I dont know if CCP are full of sins, but I know its people are not full of sins.
