Super Bowl weekend is normally quiet in box office premieres in the US during the pre-COVID era and the only movie to drop is smaller budget counterprogramming. With theaters mostly still closed in many countries around the world, movie premieres have been either with lower box office expectation and haul or moving to streaming premieres. Korean sci-fi movie Space Sweepers (Spaceship Victory) is best reviewed as pretty good for the first time attempt from Chungmuro to blast into space. A solid B-movie material with deft execution and heart warming found family appeal, I guess not outright sucking is already a relief but having good reviews from some critics and audience members (63% for critics and 83% for audience on Rotten Tomatoes) coupled with the movie holding onto the worldwide #1 spot for movies on Netflix since it’s drop has been enough positives for K-ent to label this movie a success. Whew, bullet dodged for all because I want more space flicks from K-ent going forward for sure!
