Possible Pairing of Kang Ji Hwan and Moon Geun Young a No Go as KBS Scraps I Live Alone From the Airing Schedule

If I said I’m annoyed it would be an understatement, but it doesn’t rise to the level of being upset because this kind of shuffling is honestly par for the course. The problem is getting the public involved in the backstage nitty gritty, raising expectations before dashing it on the rocks of network politicking. Just two days after news broke that KBS was in talks with Kang Ji Hwan and Moon Geun Young to headline the upcoming Mon-Tues drama time slot with the rom-com I Live Alone (Home Alone), the network released a media statement that the entire drama was being scrapped. Da hell?

KBS explained in a press release that production for I Live Alone was not ready hence the entire drama was not going to be on the airing schedule come this October. It didn’t add that the drama was merely going to be pushed back, since So Ji Sub and Shin Mina‘s Oh My God was supposed to follow I Live Alone and already had the next time slot locked up. Instead all KBS said was that I Live Alone was not happening and that’s that. Everyone has pointed out the drama was being helmed by a weak track record screenwriter, which is undeniable, so if KBS wants to pass on I Live Alone then it’s understandable even if I’m personally annoyed I can’t get my Moonie and Ji Hwan-sshi in a rom-com. Grrrrr.

I bet both Kang Ji Hwan and Moon Geun Young wasn’t going to do the drama, despite the media play by the production, and ultimately the network decided to cut its losses and go with something else. The drama to take over the time slot I Live Alone was intended for will reportedly be the new drama by KBS weekend drama veteran screenwriter Jung Yoo Kyung who write The Best Lee Soon Shin, Please Marry Me, and In Soon is Pretty. Let’s see how that turns out and which actors and actresses the network lines up in the end. If I had my say I would just convince Kang Ji Hwan, Moon Geun Young, and second female lead Jeon Hye Bin to move over to the new drama.

  • Well if the writer didn't have the best track record then it's best for KBS to cut its losses they already are known for screwing up their dramas midway through (save for Discovery of Romance since that was just perfect).
    I was wondering why Oh My God wouldn't be moved up, but thought perhaps Taming Mother-in-Law had a more complete cast and has already begun filming.

    • Unfortunately most dramas tend to go downhill once the ratings are too low or too high *sigh* We never watch the original idea in both these cases since writers probably save the scripts for their next drama...

      KBS used to do that all the time but recently it's SBS that's copying this attitude magnificently, imho...

    • Discovery of Romance was the proof that ratings is just a number. Another series that I like last year from KBS was Jang Do Jeon. Both were very well made dramas. For this year, I still don't have any favorite dramas from KBS (not even the Producer, which more like a trial-error drama for them).

  • Too bad, I didn't care about the drama, but I would have loved to see Kang Ji Hwan again in a romantic comedy type drama. And with a female lead I actually like.

    I skipped his last drama "Big Man" and didn't like Hwang Jung Eum as a space Trooper from Spaceballs. That haircut ...

  • seriously? Whyy? I wish the drama just goes to another network...why call them first to cancel it over nothing? =||

  • It's better to cut the drama when they still not ready. Otherwise it would make us, audiences becoming headache to watch their poor script writing or waste the actors talents. This year full of surprise where the dramas that hold better ratings come from non popular actors or non high anticipated dramas. But we are blessed with A-list female actors from Han Ji Min, Kim Sun Ah, Kim Tae Hee, Ha Ji Won, Su Aeh, Song Hye Kyo, Jang Na Ra, Shin Min Ah make a comeback. Who'll get they the best/ high quality drama? Till now, Su Ae still the one but who knows. They save the best drama int the end of this year it seems. Let's see another surprise...

  • I'm rather relieved, I do not like the premise of the story, so glad Moonie can find another drama with a good script, thank you unnie for updates!

  • So sad sad,I wanted Oppa in this drama with MGY ,Why -they have released new casting while they were not yet on ? Now that the drama is canceled, there are less haters or jalous to comment, at least you have made noise about nothing (as they say to talk talkers or parrots)lol
    Oppa I am waiting for you ;;
