Discovery of Love Screenwriter Preps Slice-of-Life KBS Weekend Drama Our Five Kids

This is a welcome and refreshing piece of drama development news. The screenwriter of the tvn I Need Romance franchise and who also wrote last year’s KBS romance drama Discovery of Love is breaking out of her dating-centric box. Writer Jung Hyun Jung is prepping her next work called Our Five Kids, which tells os a slice-of-life type family story in a funny and heartwarming way. Nowhere do I see the words betrayal, revenge, and/or separation, so I’m all good with this!

The drama has been picked up by KBS and given a weekend time slot, which likely means it’ll air in early 2016 after 50-episode drama All About My Mom with Eugene and Lee Sang Woo wraps up. I’ll be curious how Jung Hyun Jung tackles family weekend fare since her writing is so closely associated discussions of modern dating mores and pitfalls. Discovery of Love was one of my favorite dramas last year, half for the writing even if I found all the characters so frustrating, and half for the great acting. If Our Five Kids has an acting cast I like then I’ll totally check it out.

  1. She’s the writer who always write the very frustating heroine. I hate to death female character in Discovery of Romance (not the actress, Jung Yumi). I love all the casts with their great acting talents that made the stories feel so real. But I don’t like how the stories only focus on dating and a bit slow. The only thing that made me keep watching, just because I wanna see how male lead character (Eric Mun) end up since his character development is one of the best written in k-drama.

I believe she can make a very interesting and conflicted stories. Because all of her previous works were love stories, indeed feel exciting of how she writes this upcoming drama.

  2. Sounds good. I agree if this one has a great acting cast, I’ll check it out too.

Wow, 50 episodes for All About My Mom?! :O That’s a lot, but I don’t mind. I’m currently watching it and I’m loving it (all 12 episodes that aired, thus far…). Great family drama, great ensemble cast and a very good story (it’s relatable too with humor to keep you entertain and watching). It gets better and better every episode. Love Eugene and Lee Sang Woo! They look great together and they are my favorite to watch in this drama…waiting for their characters to hook up and kiss already, lol… 😀

    • Discovery of Romance might not everyone favorite due to the frustating story line but it had solid casts and the story that we could relate. And I heard it won several drama awards whether in Korea or international festivals and positive reviews from critics. I think that’s the reason why KBS trust her to write another story. Being honest, I’m not a fan of her writing, but I admit she knows how to pick her leads.

  3. I like I need romance wherein Kim so eun starred in but I wasn’t able to watch it until the end and I forgot why I did that ? I wish she cast interesting young actor and actress. Tho casting idols is a practice right now its a bit tiring to watch beautiful men… just cast 1 idol per drama or movie … too many is ?

  4. I really liked Discovery of Love ! And if I would not act like the female lead, I can understand her choices. I loved the characters and the actors. Jung Yumi and Eric Moon were great !
