New Girl Group IVE Member Jang Won Young is the Breakout of 2022 and Reportedly Receiving Countless K-drama Offers as Female Lead

Okay K-pop peeps, y’all gotta explain why her over the other fresh faced ingenues out this year. One of the biggest new K-pop girl groups out is IVE and the breakout from that group is Jang Won Young. She’s even bigger now then when she was in IZ*ONE and even I’ve heard of her from how mainstream popular she is. This week K-ent is reportedly that countless K-drama scripts are being offered to Jang Won Young even with zero acting experience. Various production agencies are keen to be the first drama she picks and thinks her image suits cute high school student or younger sister type or even the haughty rich princess type. There is no worry whether she can act saying that her image aligning with the right role plus her natural charm will be enough for audiences to digest her acting. Errrrm, suuuuuureeeee, we’ve seen that playbook before. No word on whether she’s ready to jump into acting but she’s already picking up CFs left and right.

  2. Poor girl. She’s very young, clearly underweight and her face is full of filters. She needs an adult to slow down things for her.

  3. Sorry to say this, but she doesn’t have actress aura. She’s more like model or kpop idol not actress. I can’t imagine hee acting poor innocent girl in kdramas. But her co-member, Yujin(if I’m not mistaken) has totally actress vibe. When U saw her first time in After like Summer concept, I was so shocked cauz she is totally actress type. Her smile, her face, her natural mimes.

  4. People have been fawning over JWY since PD48 days. She’s been known as the next JJH level celebrity with first love status. She’s the visual queen of the late 90s-00s generation even though she’s still a minor. Not surprised that there’s a huge demand for her because if not her then who? She really is that huge. All the brands want her both domestic and luxury brands are crazy for her. This isn’t even media play because JWY really is that popular and her group IVE is dominating music charts in Korean and their international popularity in Japan and US is also growing. To be honest the 98-00 line is already heading into their mid 20s without making a huge mark. Next year the 00-05 line will start making breakouts especially the 02-04 line which is saturated with visuals and talent especially for idol actors. The 4th gen isn’t just coming to the K-pop it’s going to happen to Kdrama too. JWY along Haerin and Minji from New Jeans will be in crazy demand by drama producers and it helps that they belong to the two biggest groups in Korea right now. 100% sure SM will push Karina and Winter into acting next year and Kazuha if she wasn’t Japanese would be a strong competition to JWY. I’m so ready for fresh new faces instead of the same old.

      • Lol, BP is still the queen in kpop land. The 4 members are crazily popular. But JWY is a new star, she’s also popular, obviously not in BP level yet but she’s going there. I just hope, JWY wont be the 2nd suzy. She gets all popular alone.

  5. This is no surprise. Wonyoung is the face of the MZ generation and the most followed celebrity by Gen Z and even ahjumma’s and ajhushi’s are crazy for her. She’s going to be the most legendary celebrity South Korea has ever had.

  6. I can see her do everything from first love to college preppy to girl crush. Her height and visuals are insane. All she needs is some acting lessons and she’ll be fine. Her visuals are great for both modern and sageuk dramas. The bigger problem is that her schedule is packed. She doesn’t have a single slot in her schedule for drama filming and PDs are literally begging her agency to free up her schedule and they are willing to pay big monies for it. Imagine an idol actress pulling in 100 million won per episode for her debut. That’ll be legendary and very possible because the returns will be much higher just from endorsement sales alone. Since Starship is an actor agency too I’m sure they’ll debut her sooner rather than later.

    • She is the face of this generation kpop but it is too early to tell if she will be the girl version of CEW, since she has yet to make any acting project.

Hope she does some heavy acting immersion/practice/lesson if she does decide the acting path, and also hope she starts accepting small roles first. Then only move up, if she does show some acting chops for it.
That is the thing I am most irritated with idol turned actors, when they go for lead roles with their zero/questionable acting resume. Urgh!

They should follow the likes of Seo Hyunjin, Siwan, Junho IU and DO. Idol-actors/actresses who went from small roles to supporting roles to lead roles as they perfected their craft…

      • I feel like all the scrutiny on her may have set a bad foundation for acting. I came across her in PD48 and listened to Izone and I’VE. She’s huge. Not only does she hit on all the korean beauty standards for looks by the time she was 14, but she also did well in school and can speak English really well. Her singing and dancing are decent. People are watching and posting about her all the time and scrutinizing her every facial expression (moreso than the insane amount of scrutiny that idols already get) that I feel like she’s become a little too camera-conscious and for acting, that consciousness sort of ruins the character immersion.

Still, whichever drama that eventually casts her would be rolling in advertiser money, so I’m not surprised that she’s getting all those offers. With so many channels and streaming platforms, there must be stiff competition for investors in dramas.

      • keep in mind this is the same industry that pushed Suzy as a lead actress for 10 years despite her having the acting skills of a block of wood, and is pushing Cha Eun Woo now who has similar level of acting skills.

Of course they don’t care whether this girl can act! They just want the advertisement money from the brands she endorses.

Of course Jang Won Young may actually turn out to be a good actress, but we all know that’s not the priority of the people looking to cast her lol. And these drama producers will never learn.

    • What have CEW have to do with this? Cha eun woo is still a decent actor, he is under an acting agency before he started getting lead roles in big dramas he appeared in smaller dramas first plus he was trained in acting before the other members in his group. He may not be the best actor but his acting isn’t bad either.

  7. Blackpink member jisoo earned seventeen million from insta cfs alone. They can live even with out acting💀

  9. Lmao the crazy kpoppers in the comments. I sure hope these aren’t adults because cringe.

Anyway, talented kid but what leading roles? This goes for all these idols, not just her – start from the bottom and learn to actually act before any lead roles. Instead they get leads based on nothing and mess up countless shows. It’s not their fault but the people who cast them and the whole system needs changing.

    • i hope these people aren’t actual adults. it would be super creepy for them to be talking about someone who literally just turned eighteen in this way.

anyway, i agree with the first commenter. she looks poised to be overexposed and overworked. i hope someone is looking out for her well-being as surely everyone is focused on making her the next big star without consideration for her mental health.

    • For real! Like girl is pretty and talented at being an idol, but I’m laughing at some of these utterly delusional comments.
“She’s going to be the most legendary celebrity South Korea ever had”
      Uhm… WHAT? 😂
Typical exaggerated KPop stan culture behavior/comments 💀
These delusional fans will bring even more hate to the girl with all their exaggerated claims 💀
That’s why I don’t interact with the kpop fandom nowadays even tho I’m a fan of many groups, I just can’t take the level of exaggeration, over-praising, and delusions anymore lol

    • The people who cast them don’t care about talent and will never let them start from supporting roles. Not the A list idols anyways but less popular idols mostly do start from supporting roles like Yeonwoo, Rowon, Chaeyeon, Sungjae etc. However once an idol reached a certain level of popularity they can never be supporting roles which is why Jisoo got her lead role in Snowdrop and Wonyoung will also start with lead roles as will the BTS members who want to go into acting like V and Jin and maybe Jungkook. I disagree that they ruin dramas since most of the dramas they get cast in are written exclusively for them like Cha Eunwoo in Gagnam Beauty and True Beauty, NCT Jaehyun in Dear M, Minhyun in Live On and Yohan in School 2021. The dramas become extremely popular online just like they are intended to so its a win win for everyone. The dramas with idols are aimed at a much younger audience who would rather see their oppa and unnie than some unknown rookie so producers don’t think about ratings when they cast these idols. They only care about distribution and cf sales and online engagements. Contrary to what you might think idol dramas make a lot of money and are extremely trendy and the plus point is many rookies can piggy back on the popularity of these idols to make a name for themselves. The system doesn’t need changing because it works for everyone and Wonyoung has every right to land a lead role especially when she can bring in the money needed to fund the drama and pay salaries.

      • Why does every Korean celebrity post always end up being critical of Korean people in general? Why does this blog always devolve into a referendum on Korean culture/people no matter what the topic is?

  10. She really has that manhwa vibe: cute with a baby face while also being glamorous. And she’s eye-catching during performances. However, I think she looks too trendy for dramas, maybe she’s better for second female leads? Her groupmate Ahn Yujin has more of the actress visuals in my opinion; she even looks like Jung Somin. But who knows, maybe she’ll pull a Suzy.

  11. I’m one of those (ahjumma) charmed by JWY ever since her re-debut with IVE. And I have thought about what made her so attractive. Her height, her face, her perfected natural aura and sweetness, strictly in this order, is successfully packaged into a top idol and model.
I hope she does not go into acting, just stay on the modelling path once the idol phase is over.

  12. Uggh
    Enough with this girl!
Hi korea,hi pd nim whoever talk about promote this!
I told you,you will bring down your country name into a bad idea
She is a very hated kpop idol nowadays, dont you all realize?oh my god such a drama!

  13. Ah, to be a top k-pop idol with people lavishing praise over your looks (thanks to no shortage of PS)/aura, being “just decent” at your main job of singing/dancing, and having another industry’s roles fall into your lap because it’s banking on your popularity over any actual experience. A tale as old as time.

No hate to WY, though. I get why this keeps happening from a business perspective, but it gets so ridiculous sometimes when you just want to watch a good drama with good actors only for it to be diluted by inexperience.
