Top C-actress Yang Mi Leaves Her Own Agency Jay Walk Studios After 10 Years

Oh this is big news, but probably no ripples for broader C-ent. This week Yang Mi dropped a big surprise in that she left Jay Walk Studios (Jiaxing), the company she established in 2013 with two other individuals. She established Jay Walk after leaving Tangren Entertainment and also establishing her own Yang Mi workshop which is very common with top stars. Her leaving Jay Walk now leaves agency star Dilraba Dilmurat as the solo top Queen though her fans are now telling her to leave as well. The agency can be considered a big success having produced over three dozen C-dramas and movies and many hits in the portfolio.

  3. This was known since last year but it took a while to break all ties. Jaywalk is infamous for forcing their stars to act in their own productions which suck ass. It’s actually industry norm to do so, but out of all the big agency cum production companies, Jaywalk is the only one with zero hits when they are the primary producer. It is known to be heaven for newbies but hell for top actors. No surprise that Yang Mi fans are happy with the move and Dilraba fans want out. That being said, Yang Mi is well-connected whereas Dilraba is known to be detached from the industry. Insider speculation suggests that Dilraba will put her studio under another big agency, rather then go full solo.

Obviously it’s an end of an era for Jaywalk. People used to joke that they were charmed by luck to have the two most popular actresses of this generation. With one contract expired and the other expiring, plus Jaywalk facing financial issues, it will all be downhill from here.

  4. I don’t know why I thought Dilraba left Yang Mi’s studio awhile ago. Yang Mi really gave life to the Agency. I feel like her walking away from it means she was unhappy with things and I fully support her. Maybe Dilraba is still happy there if they allowed her a break and to come back after some time off. Either way I’m excited to see what Yang Mi does next

  5. I can’t recognize any of the celebrity photos above. I’m mostly indifferent to C-ent other than my own fave. I know Yang Mi is a big name in the C-ent but her recent dramas aren’t really watchable for me. I dropped them all. Same with the dramas of Dilraba. I wonder when Cdrama can have quality productions on par with Kdrama, tbh.

    • Psychopath, a lot of people just stick to Cdramas like Longest Season or The Knockout and never watch Kdramas too. There are popular awardwinning actors like Zhu Yilong, Jackson Yee, Reyizha that Koala doesn’t recommend but have good dramas everytime. Also I can’t recognise Korean actors other than Song Hye Gyo or Won Bin because the younger generation actors look all very similar to Song Kang, have too much plastic surgery like Ji Changwook, or look nice and can’t act like Cha Eunwoo.

At least in Cdramas you can tell actors apart because they don’t look like they all got the same surgeries, botox and filler? Dylan Wang looks unique and has wrinkles, Jackson Yee is lauded for his acting, Bai Lu looks unique, Guan Xiaotong, Zhao Lusi, Song Zuer, Chen Xingxu all are natural faced with their own unique vibe.

      • I agree regarding the diversity of Chinese actors. I haven’t seen more than 15 C-dramas but I have found variety in facial features. I have watched K-dramas for five years and only Nana, Kim Ji-hoon and Cha Eunwoo are distinguishable to me. I am currently watching the Ingenious One and find the looks of Mao Xiaotong and Chen Xiao appealing.

      • She just meant that she doesn’t recognize them because she is not focused on Chinese entertainment.

      • It must be because China has 56+ ethnicities, logically there is a great deal of diversity.

      • WTF, why are you name calling someone who made a mild comment? And the way you putting down korean actors is a no no. Just like Chinese actors not only contain Dilraba dan Xiao Zhan, there are a lot of other talented Korean actors that you probably never bother to watch. There are clearly differences in taste between the two of you, but one seems ruder than the other.

      • @Just Your Ordinary Reader, it’s clearly the short form of his name LOL.

    • C-ent does have good dramas actually. But they are never promoted by the English speaking comm cos it’s always the top liuliang stars that get their stuff translated into English. The more obscure ones (with veterans/actors who really focus on acting) are never talked about as much. But there are some gems in there. Second @lol on actors like zhu yi long/ni ni etc who have good stuff, just not talked about. I avoid stuff from yang mi/dilraba and the likes of them

yup @lol. K-ent doesnt have alot of very talented people in the younger gen unfortunately. so u always see the same old names (han so hee, cha eun woo etc) whom fans think look good but have mediocre/below average acting skills. too much plastic surgery and over-focus on looks/visuals. this is the same problem in c-ent actually, but at least for china/japan i can still tell apart some of their celebs. for k-ent it’s getting worse and alot start to look the same after awhile. it’s creepy.

      • It’s not that K-ent lacks talented young actors, it’s probably you who only watch the mediocre korean drama with trendy actors (han so hee and cha eun woo are trendy actors just like liuliang actors I believe).

Would it be okay for someone like me who only watches gong jun and dilraba dramas and some mediocre dramas that trending on tiktok to say that Chinese actors lack of acting skills? No, right? So, before making such comments, why didn’t you try to watch some korean drama that are really beloved by the general public instead of some mediocre dramas that are famous because of pretty faces? I guarantee you’ll discover some hidden gems (or not even hidden, just invisible to international audiences).

      • @Just your ordinary reader:

LOL PLS as if you know anything about me and what I watch. I stay the heck away from these gen z trendy mediocre actors and their work. But it remains the fact that they are always everywhere having their lousy work and cfs/modelling being the main focus of every website and media outlet.

That was my main point, which you seem to not comprehend at all.

I’ve been watching k-dramas for YEARS. Exactly 16 years this year, probably triple your watch-rate. – I know who is good/bad at their craft and I know what makes good kdramas. They are never the ones promoted loudly.

I don’t care what you are watching or what is okay or not okay for you lmfao, so you can get off your damn high horse and stop preaching to me. “Before making such comments” blah blah whatever – you don’t get to police the comments I want to make on a public website. Like who even are you? Do yourself a favour, go do your homework and stop embarrassing yourself.

      • @Anne And? I just wrote in my previous comment that it’s unfair for you to put down young Korean actors while praising Chinese actors when it’s actually the same case. Unfortunately for both, all that gets popular by international public is mediocre drama with trendy actors, which even gets criticized by the general public. Who is actually didn’t have reading comprehension here?

Oh and fyi, my first favorite K-drama was Full House. Do the math.
