After turning down the Hong Sisters romance streaming drama Can This Love be Translated he’s now been offered the male lead in the upcoming police thriller K-drama Nine Puzzle. He plays a outwardly lackadaisical but brilliant in reality detective who suspects that a sole victim from a murder ten years ago has now become a criminal profiler but could actually have been the perp. They work together to uncover the truth. The female lead in talks is Kim Da Mi and ooh this sounds epic not to mention this drama and role sounds much more up Son Seok Kyu’s alley for sure.

Description fits SSK to a T. This story sounds like a much better fit for him than the Hong sisters romcom.
With his current popularity and the fact that he is a Baeksang nominee for Best Actor, why would he want move backwards and choose a Hong sister romcom? He should go for something heavy and will help him to progress further in his acting career. So, heavy saeguks, slice-of-life, and thrillers are the way to go.
The role fits his current status as a Baeksang nominee. A Hong sisters’ romcom will be a joke.
