July 2023 Netflix K-dramas has Three in Top 10 Global with King the Land, Celebrity, and See You in My 19th Life

It’s totally summer 2023 season in full swing now and as C-dramas are dropping new shows like confetti the K-drama land remains more steady in scheduling. In July so far, there are three K-dramas that have been ranking in the top 10 global list of most watched Netflix shows. jTBC romance King the Land is the most popular K-drama on Netflix, followed by Netflix produced Celebrity, and right behind that one is tvN drama See You in My 19th Life. The other popular drama the SBS horror thriller Revenant is streaming on Disney+ otherwise it’s totally primed for major Netflix streams. And lastly the ridiculously makjang but strangely addicting Durian’s Affair is on Viki.

July 2023 Netflix K-dramas has Three in Top 10 Global with King the Land, Celebrity, and See You in My 19th Life — 22 Comments

  1. See You in My 19th Life was bad but King The Land was worse. I can’t even stand the non existing storyline, the corniness, and it made me cringe in a very very bad way

    • King the land is the worst kdrama i’ve watched this year lmao… but people love fairytale, that’s why it gets high rating.

    • Amazing, one person in this world who thinks the same as me . I tried but i have to drop and it’s not because of the actors because they did good performances in other projects . I don’t get the hype but a lot of western countries don’t produce rom com ( at least in my country France) so maybe it’s refreshing for them to watch one , but as a long time viewer of kdramas ( 2 decades) i may be more difficult to satisfy ???

      • Yoonah and Junho have A LOT of international fans of their idol groups. Like fans of BTS, they would watch whatever their idols on screen, not to mention they both had good acting projects before.

I also dropped the series at ep4 and have no intention to watch it later. Well perhaps I will watch it as a filler.

    • KTL is at least enjoyable, doesn’t take itself seriously while acknowledging that they don’t actually invented anything new.
See you in my 19th life just confuses its audience by pretending to deep while is the same bad writing all over again.

  2. Celebrity is pretty interesting and I am enjoying it, but I hate how many “deus ex machina” situations are. A-ri keeps getting lucky for no reason at all. I have to really suspend my disbelief to enjoy it

I can’t stand Kind the Land sadly, I couldn’t get past first 2 episodes. It’s so bland, Jesus… I just can’t. Like Business Proposal, but worse.

  3. Celebrity was pretty fun to watch. I like how they showed the influencers world.

I like See You in My 19th Life but the story about her first life wasn’t necessary. Instead they could have developped more the love stories.

King The Land is 100% a rom-com but usually the cold CEO is competent and hardworking. In this case, he’s so useless… In the last episode, he could get the Prince just because of his connections and not his competences. And the story is not consistent, the guy who couldn’t peel an onion can cook a whole menu…

  4. I didn’t watch Celebrity and See You in My 19th Life. I’m addicted to King The Land right now. Yeah, I know it’s not the best drama. But I kinda need it. I found it just after I was told that my chemo doesn’t work, and I have to do another one. It’s a stressful time and somehow something fun, light and corny like KTL can help me forget it. Junho and Yoona ooze chemistry. And I like the hostile dynamic between Junho and his sister. The actress playing her, Kim Sun-Young, is really good.

    • hugs Sheridan … praying that the 2nd round chemo will work for u… indeed, this drama is good for one to past time just to laugh and relax. Don’t have to think too much abt the logic of the story

      • Thank you so much for your kind words and pray. Yes, we already have so much to think in our real life. It’s nice to find an escape

    • So sorry about the chemo and I’m glad you’re finding some solace in feel-good shows. I don’t like heavy and dark shows, not when real-life is already so stressful. K-dramas are my escape from reality so of course I’d want to watch something light and happy.

You do you. Glad you are enjoying KTL, like I am!

      • Thank you for your kind words. I used to watch many heavy shows and movies that require thinking. But now not as much, almost none, actually. It’s nice watching things just smiling and laughing.

    • Sheridan, the 2nd will work ! Enjoy what makes you feel a little better . Feel free to ask for ideas about fun and light dramas that will continue to help you after the end of King of the Land . JE VOUS EMBRASSE TRES FORT .

  5. to be frank, I hate Yoona as an actress but totally love her as an idol. The only reason i’m watching KTL is due to Lee Junho’s performance and I did not regret it.

saying that hat KTL succeeds due to the idol background of the leads is kinda crap.

  6. While not my favorite K RomCom I thoroughly enjoyed it. The 2 leads were excellent. The women did have a lot more opportunity to show case her talent. For myself a little escapism makes my life that much sweeter. In fact this Saturday anew episode is being released and I am ;looking forward to watching it

  7. actually surprise Celebrity is the one Celebrity kdrama I was looking for when they annouance new Kim CHul Kyu’s drama. But I was feeling underwhelming with the main cast back then, so I wasn’t planning to watching it. and they announce Junho would be participating in it even when they are filming it, so I wasn;t surprise with his cameo when I know this is one Kim CHyul Kyu drama I was waiting.

I’m enjoying it very much despite my underwhelming towards the main cast. The rest of side character is doing a really good job imo. The writers really know how to create tension, and Kim CHul Kyu really executed it masterfully. And the build up towards the climax is quite well done. I just don’t think this is masterpiece, but this is definitely better than any recent drama in 2023.

  8. It amuses me when I see people (Koreans and foreigners alike) complain about how bad/ cheesy/ cringy King The Land is, yet it still sits comfortably atop the ratings/ netflix/ buzzworthy rankings above its competitors. I mean, KTL is what Korean filmmakers do best: cheesy, warm, soda pop romcoms. Not everything needs to be a deep psycho drama exploring someone’s trauma/ inner wounds whilst being a commentary on society’s ills. And the reason people watch Korean dramas over US/ Western drama is that it offers a sanctuary from all the economic/ social/ cultural wars happening out there.

    • It’s because some people are stupid. They’ll go and watch something like KTL and complain about it being too cheesy and predictable, like, that’s literally the point! Even when the drama was announced, everyone was commenting they want to watch it as it seems to be going for the old-school KDrama route, in other words, people knew it was going to be predictable and not anything revolutionary. And that’s the appeal to some people because they miss that old-school KDrama romance, Cinderella trope, or whatever. That’s why it’s a hit, it appeals to a lot of people. The complainers, on the other hand, knew what they’re getting into and still watched the drama, stupidly expecting it to be different lmao

      • As a long time european viewer of dramas, i began to watch them because they were fresh, diferent, relaxing over US/ Western shows. I do love rom com . This one was presented as one of old school kdrama route, but i don’t think that i’m stupid because i find it boring , i dropped because even My love patzzi , Full House, 18vs29, My name is kim Sam Soon , are still way more interesting, hilarious, than King the Land . Perhaps i’m too old and the new generation who is discovering Kdramas are enjoying it for the same reason as me 20 years ago, it’s something new for her !

  9. I really love King The Land. It’s the most entertaining kdrama right now. Who would have thought you can find a refreshing male character in a rom-com? Lee Junho is such an amazing actor. His interpretation of every character is impressive regardless of the genre.
