I was just getting my popcorn ready and here it is, mere days after Legend of Anle premiered to join the current batch of big name led C-dramas comes the fan conflict. Maoyan Entertainment has Legend of Anle ranked number 1 in popularity on Thursday followed by The Longest Promise in second. Xiao Zhan fans immediately firebombed the website with accusations that it purposely pushed down The Longest Promise and the rankings are not accurate. That Legend of Anle has the biggest female actress liuliang in Dilraba Dilmurat paired with also liuliang actor Gong Jun (and throwing in liuliang adjacent Liu Yu Ning as well) makes this drama’s immediate buzz not a surprise, plus Longest Promise premiered over a week ago so people tend to check out the new stuff. Whether Anle will stay hot remains to be seen and C-ent pundits are saying The Longest Promise is being hard carried by Xiao Zhan alone (while Anle has three stars) so it’s already a mega hit based on that. TBH, The Longest Promise got all the criticism at the beginning for female lead Ren Min‘s looks and a little less also on her acting but the story and production was seen as solid, whereas Anle is getting chewed out all across the board in multiple categories so I don’t think it has the holding power of The Longest Promise in the long run.
AnLe is a low budget drama with top budget stars. In term of production TLP won, hands down. But Anle is more engaging for me. I’m totally agree that XZ is hard carrying TLP alone.
If we based only by Weibo followers, Reba alone has more than double followers than XZ adding GJ’s and LYN’s, of course AnLe is more popular at least for now.
An Le has not broken 9,000 on Youku. How it’s a hot drama I don’t know. But then again the way people in China analyze data is unlike any other place in the world.lol.
It’s pointless to argue which drama or which celebrities are more popular based upon rating measures. Different rating sites deliver different ranking. While Anle topped Maoyan in popularity on its premiere day, TLP still topped most other ranking sites. Specifically Xiao Zhan’s #1 character popularity on Vlinkage hasn’t moved since the premiere of TLP, currently followed by Yang Yang closely, and then Raba the 3rd. Gong Jun’s popularity is still far behind XZ, the runner up and his costar. I think fans are paranoid even though XZ is my favorite actor. You don’t have to be on top of every chart to be recognized as a good actor. Each ranking measure is biased somehow. But per cumulative reading volumes and viewership of each celebrity’s post/video on Weibo, it’s easily to figure out everyone else is trailing XZ far behind in terms of popularity. XZ has such a huge and dedicated fanbase that every celebrity may be jealous of. No need for fans to be excited/anxious about just one ranking.
Maoyan’s ranking is said to be frequently used by brands for recruiting celebrities in endorsement deals and therefore is considered a playing field for celebrities to get real business that may bring them major sources of their income. Given that a lot of statistical information in China is usually not transparent (because of the culture), outsiders would never know how rating data are manipulated. Currently, XZ has the most endorsements among all the C celebrities, including many luxurious brands. It’s expected others covet his market power. Therefore, money is the major reason behind the fierce competition of popularity. XZ’s top popularity won’t change overnight. 227 failed to bring him down. How could one single drama ranking fail him? LOL
People may want to read a recent report of SCMP, a famous HK-based newspaper, which interviewed the CEOs of several luxurious brands. All these CEOs gave credits to XZ for multiplying the revenues/profits of the products he endorses. Some brands have seen revenues double just within hours after the announcements of XZ’s endorsements that had taken several months for the companies to achieve in the past. XZ’s fans are so crazily loyal and financially capable that endorsing XZ implies immediate sales boost-up for brands. LOL. I don’t think any other C celebrities can replicate XZ’s commercial value in any time soon. Wait for him to get old or retire from the screen.

I am watching TLP but Xiao Zhan can’t act, at least can’t act well. I don’t believe anything his character said and whenever he is sad or mourning, it looks silly.
The female lead has a rather annoying character but the actress makes it endearing yet Xiao Zhan character is just awkward and the style doesn’t suit him.
The FL is the main reason why TLP isn’t a hit like The Untamed and Xiao Zhan carries the drama alone. But you twist the fact just because of your hate for him. You’re in denial of the fact that XZ has everything an actor is envious of and that’s why he’s the most popular actor in C ent. Just swallow it!

I do not consider myself as a XZ fan, and I agree casting him as an 18 year old was a weird choice, but to say that he can’t act is ridiculous. Of course he can act, and he’s very good too.
For me, XZ cant act.. but GJ is the worst. I cant bring myself throughout ep 1. The girls are better in my opinion.
We all know how well TLP is doing. Some people are still in denial and it’s because they can’t handle Xiao Zhan’s talents and popularity. His works and numbers will speak for themselves
this year summer file are all mediocore compare to last year despite having top liuliang (XZ, DLRB, YY) YZ drama will air next week will see how it does.
Yang Zi drama will for sure be hit. At least from the media play side. Her immortal samsara last year is enough of a witness. Media play is her strength.
None of the costume dramas last year except for Love Like the Galaxy is watchable. Yang Zi has been reprising her roles in this genre. She has become boring to watch. Dylan Wang’s breakout drama is not appealing to me. I gave his drama several shots but failed to continue after ep2 while fast forwarding A LOT. Such a drowsiness inducer. That drama is overrated.
Whether a drama is a hit isn’t determined by some keyboard warriors’ rambling on social media. Statistics, although biased in every case, will deliver the decisive information regarding an actor to all the potential business partners including drama producers and commercial endorsements. It’s useless for you to deny TLP is a successful drama in terms of rating and review and XZ’s top ranking status is unshakable.

Albeit some questionable CGI at the beginning, I’m enjoying Legend of Anle alot so far. Dilireba and Gongjun acting are very natural and they’re just so compatible. I had some doubt before about their chemistry but now i’m just more and more addicted to Anju Leye (An Le & Han Ye cp) their chemistry is just too cute and natural. The plot is engaging so far and easy to watch. It’s not a masterpiece but i still enjoy for the actors’ performance and chemistry, plus the fighting scenes are well done imo. All in all to each their own.
Imho, both of these costume dramas are Flop, no need to even argue! Seems the biggest Winner for this Season is the another mediocre drama rehash hash tag cliche modern drama of Zhao Lusi, “Hidden Love”.
Dont believe me, just look at Youtube views for the First episode on all three dramas. Which makes you wonder why Xiao Zhan’s TLP is not release in Youtube even for at least one episode before going to Neflix, where nobody & no one can even see real numbers. Unless Youtube is doctored platform or Lusi is overrated. Just take your pick!
While me, I dont care on any of them, just lounging, relaxing, eating popcorn, rewatching old better dramas of real better actors in drama with better interesting storyline that can stimultate your brain to upper level of human existence.

You can’t base only on YouTube to determine how well these dramas are doing. TC didn’t upload any episode of TLP on YT like you said. You have to look at all other flat forms also to be fair. TLP has been been doing well since it’s 1st day of airing. It has been #1 for the drama & also #1 for Xiao Zhan’s character.
Tencent doesn’t care about YT. Tencent has its own international streaming site, WeTV, which is taking over market share outside China and a pretty formidable competitor for Netflix, specifically in SE Asia. Why would Tencent share its milk cow and split commercial profits with YT? lol
Hidden Love has NEVER in one day exceeded the popularity of TLP on the various rating charts in China. And Xiao Zhan’s top 1 ranking on character’s popularity has not shaken yet since the premiere of TLP. FYI.
The biggest winner is Hidden Love? Apparently you are not following Chinese dramas ratings. Hidden Love ranks way behind The Longest Promise on EACH rating sites on Every Day since TLP premiered. Hidden Love is no competition against TLP. HL might have only created more buzz among international fans.
Numbers are for stupid people (fans mainly) with zero critical thinking, that’s why China’s productions are bad. The Longest Promise is not a good drama. I’m watching it for XZ only.
