Lost You Forever Breaks 30,000 Tencent Hot Rankings the Fastest of any 2023 C-drama, with Yang Zi Showered with Praise and Deng Wei Breaking Out First Among the Male Leads

The success of Lost You Forever is all but guaranteed now, mere two days into its premiere. The reviews are excellent and the buzz is record topping, and with top liuliang Yang Zi as the female lead the continued online interest will only continue even if the drama story peters out. WHICH IT WON’T. Haha, I can guarantee it as long as the drama follows the novel, this is one of the best written fantasy romance C-novels I’ve ever read and the substantive plots keep going and evolving and flipping on its own arcs. LYF broke 30,000 on the hot rankings on Tencent on the second day of airing, the fastest drama to do so on Tencent in 2023. I’m assuming it took over the spot from fellow 2023 Tencent xianxia drama The Longest Promise.

The first OTP shipping votes are in and Deng Wei as Jing runaways with the viewer love, no surprise as even I am swooning over drama Jing in a way that novel Jing never made me feel. He does quiet love so well and his chemistry with Yang Zi is amazeballs. She’s also amazeballs and is getting the well-deserved accolades pulling off crass slippery Wen Xiao Liu with a mouthful of a crap all the time the most bruised and battered heart of love hidden inside. I worried viewers would get bored with the Qing Shui Town scenes and also the Xiao Liu portion since in cross-dressing dramas the big rush is the make our female lead drop dead gorgeous again. But here two of the three male leads falls in love with her as a uncouth man and that part Yang Zi nails so hard because it’s impossible not to love her portrayal of Xiao Liu.

Lost You Forever Breaks 30,000 Tencent Hot Rankings the Fastest of any 2023 C-drama, with Yang Zi Showered with Praise and Deng Wei Breaking Out First Among the Male Leads — 31 Comments

  1. This drama is okay and I like it but not love it. There was another drama Mysterious Lotus Casebook was excellent. keeo looking for more episode. Should try watch it.

  2. Mysterious of Lotus CAsebook and Lost you forever are amazing…the story is different but both are enjoyable and very clear that both of productions put great efforts in making them.

For Mysterious Lotus, usually when I watched costume detective story, there are many loopholes, but here they put attention in detail so we the viewers agree with the logic explanation

and for the Lost you forever, Yang Zi really shining here…as the central character, she really nail it..Her crossdressed is good and convincing too, not annoying as some of other dramas with similar plot

  3. I’m loving it so far! My ultimate vote goes in for Jing though, but all MLs deserves a Xiao Yao too. Never knew I could like all 3 ML at once. They all have their own presence!

  4. I think they both tortured cheng yi and yang zi in immortal samsara ….so it’s great she is getting a deserving role and better directed drama in Lost You Forever.

I think Deng wei was underrated in previous roles as second lead so I am not surprised that he is able to showcase his depth and layered portrayal in LYF.

    • Just to update, after the latest episode (10), I felt all the three male leads and Yang Zi did very well. Thanks to the wonderful translation by Koala, I read part of the novel. So I can appreciate how the characters are being brought to life by these talented actors.

Deng Wei steals the screen with a layered performance from beginning. When I first saw the stills, I wasn’t sure about Tan Jian Ci but once the show kicks off, he oozes smexy vibe all the way. I happen to be one of those who is fine with Zhang Wan. In fact I thought he is able to make me empathize with his character, a lot more than I thought I would.

I also can’t think of anyone else other than Yang Zi who could have carried the looks, character and demeanor of Xiao Liu/Yao so vividly with such depth.

  5. I may want to drop LYF. I fast forwarded ep5 and ep6 a lot. I didn’t get the points of the plot so far. It’s slow paced and boring to me. None of the leads are visually appealing. Den Wei’s character looks better. The other two MLs are meh. In particular the 9-head Xianliu scared me off. He’s so gross. He and the prince look so short. I can’t stand MLs in costume idol dramas looking so short. And I still felt as if watching a period drama in Beijing alleys, not a xianxia drama. LOL

      • Yup as you wish! I’m dropping it without regret. Lol
BTW, I followed each of YZ’s dramas after watching her breakout Ashes of Love. You guys are pitiful lacking critical thinking. You can’t tolerate different opinions. At least provide some reasoning to support your own points of view. But NONE! Just empty emo reply! Lol

LYF is overhyped. It’s not as good as being intensely promoted before the premiere. The trailer looked intriguing and that’s why I gave a shot to watch 6 eps. It’s pretty disappointing. That’s my opinion! Please respect and peace out!

    • don’t feed the troll y’all. LOL

just the XZ fanbot crapping on all dramas that doesn’t have XZ in it. i liked XZ after watching The Untamed but his crazy fans are so immmature and spread such hate and toxicity that they actually make him look bad. it’s like they’ve learned nothing after the 227 incident.

  6. BTW, Yang Zi overacted again. She’s pretty fine in Ashes of Love. But she’s got this same issue since Oath of Love. On top of that, She’s visually not looking good now. Same issues with the MLs except for Deng Wei. Don’t tell me nonsense that acting can override visuals etc. It’s an idol xianxia drama. If the novel describes all these main characters to be stunning beauty or handsome, then I’d expect the cast actors to exude equivalent allure too. I can’t relate why multiple ppl would be attracted to that particular person with ordinary looks. Because of her incredible acting like a beauty? Lol

    • Your comments always show an attitude of condemnation paired with insistence on being right.

Regarding your expectation on beauty you might like to thing why there are so many idioms like:

“Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder”

“Beauty is the opposite of perfection – it’s about confidence and charisma ”

” Beauty is not in the face, it’s a light in the heart.” …

Additionally, no adaption -regadrless of the source material- can ever achieve 100 percent accuracy. The perception of books is different than moving pictures.
Also, tastes are so different. If they are described as beautiful in a book I will have a different imagination than the next person or you. And if you find your bias incredibly beautiful, for me he’s just meh. And we are both right. No point in trying to force your beauty standards on other or downgrading the looks of other actors/actresses just because noone is as beautiful as your favorites in your opinion. That’s the only explanation I have that you don’t see that beauty can be enriched by charisma and acting talent. Beauty is not objective or a fact!

BTW, I understand that one might hope for visual compatibility, still the most important part of an actor is “acting”. And good acting is also not perceived by all viewers alike.

I’m wondering if you’re even able to watch a show without your bias and not downgrade everything you see. Must be tough for you to endure watching other stuff.

I’m finishing with your trademark: Lol
(as if your comments would be less mean with it, Lol)

      • You don’t need to lecture me. I just expressed my opinion as an ordinary drama fan after watching LYF that’s been overhyped by the blogger for so long. I’m disappointed after wasting hours on a meh drama with a meh cast. Thanks for reminding me of dropping the drama. lol. I was debating whether to stay following LYF while making the prior comments. Now thanks to your nudge, I don’t hesitate to drop it at all. There’s nothing in C drama to watch now. Time for me to pick up K drama again.

      • Voltaire said that . ” I may not be agree with you but i will fight to let you express what you have to say “

    • You still wasted hours after finding this drama “meh”? HA, now that’s the funniest part of your rant. I don’t feel bad for you at all, you put yourself through the pain of watching a drama you dislike.

  7. I haven’t read the novel but am really enjoying the drama so far.
I am also by no means a Yang Zi fan but I think she’s doing a good job so far. Her portrayal of Xiao Liu is well done. There’s an air of sadness around her and it’s palpable. It’s also nice that her voice isn’t that annoying higher pitch that she usually puts in her xianxia characters.

The men are also doing a good job (in my opinion). As of right now, I’m shipping Shi Qi as well since he puts so much thought into taking care of her and it’s adorable.

  8. I’ll be upset if they change the ending of the plot because the book was beautifully written. I am a Xiang Liu fan and at the time I read the book I wanted a different ending for him just as I wanted a different ending for her parents. However politically the ending makes sense, During war civilians suffer the most. The wars needed to come to an end and unification was the only way. There were no winners if you ask me, each Male lead made decisions that led to their fate in the end.

  9. hahaha.. i already expected that particular karen will be commenting here, dissing the leads. after all, only her fav is OK. other than her fav is NOT OK 🤣 but when others criticized her fav, she’ll become defensive LOL

anyway yanzi isn’t my fav coz i hasn’t watched any of her drama. but I’m glad this drama breaks so many records. it already broke up with 31000 heats! the highest in tencent so far 🔥🔥🔥 might watch this later after they released all of the episodes. hope netflix will pick up this.

    • There are no gains for me to diss anyone as you falsely claimed. Opinion is an opinion regardless of a compliment or criticism. Please be respectful rather than react like a butthurt maniac bcus I don’t appreciate what you like.

FYI. I watched Oath of Love thanks to Yang Zi’s breakout drama, Ashes of Love. Back then I didn’t even know who Xiao Zhan was. How the heck my own personal opinion about her performance in OoL and LYF has offended you? My review of her acting in OoL is irrelevant to XZ at all. I had been her fan before being a fan of XZ after all. Your wild mental gym made you sound like an emo wreck! I think bcuz you’re a XZ hater and obviously my constant raves about his works drove you crazy? Lol

I stand by my preference for actors/actresses to look pretty in idol dramas. I’ll be equally critical of XZ if he looks off in a drama too.

  10. Im always afraid of xianxia drama, especially when they veer off the novel. So lets hope they stick to the novel’s ending. Im also holding back from starting so soon.. waiting for my episodes to roll out first so I can binge.

  11. That guy Zhang wan yi is truly the worst actor in the drama currently, who cast him, can’t they find better actor, yang zi deserves better.what’s worse his visual is meh, should stick to modern drama.

  12. Audience are criticising actors/actresses for they haven’t read the book and didn’t understand that that should be how the actors/actresses should be. I guess the drama leave different impression to one who had read and not read the book. I had read the book. So far am still engrossed with the drama. They’re doing a good job

  13. Btw it has come to my knowledge that the author of book had input into the drama production. She was satisfied with the drama production as to how it ought to be
