So the C-drama adaptation of The Golden Hairpin was a S-level project so there was a shit ton of money already spent on the drama. That it was done and just waiting airing permit with male lead Wu Yi Fan (Kris Wu) was arrested for rape and other myriad allegations meant that a completed project was about to become a sunk cost. It’s been two since the scandal in the summer of 2021 and recently the court upheld Wu Yi Fan’s 13 year prison sentence on appeal. So the talk of a replacement male lead coming in to reshoot and then CGI his face into Wu Yi Fan’s body in appropriate scenes have continued and the most recent rumor is that the reshoots will happen in August 2023 so this month and Yang Zi will reshoot as needed any of her portions with the new male lead free of pay. Lin Geng Xin continues to be touted as the replacement male lead but also this week there was word that the production is considering Xiao Zhan, Deng Wei, and Tan Jian Ci. Deng Wei may be a good fit but Xiao Zhan is not stepping into any replacement and reshoot project and Tan Jian Ci isn’t as good a physical approximation to Wu Yi Fan.
What a complete piece of s# Kris Wu is, I still get mad when I am reminded of him.
Great news if they really intend to reshoot with another actor as described, but yes, Xiao Zhan is definitely not doing it, unless someone is blackmailing him or something!
It would be good to see Deng Wei in a different role.

It was back in 2022. Something about not wanting to audition when they asked him to. I’m not sure of the whole story. Maybe his company forced him into acting and he was never into it. I don’t like Yu Zheng but Deng Wei does have a few scandals. Maybe he’s young and still immature. I do like him as an actor.

Yea, Deng Wei does nothing for me when he is in his modern garbs. He is so endearing as Tu Shan Jing, I am having trouble consolidating his modern image with the meek Jing T_T I don’t know if it’s his choice of fashion or what but he gives f*ckboy vibes (when in his modern clothes). He should permanently stay in Heng Dian and superglue these ancient clothing on him XD
