Action Period C-drama Guardians of the Dafeng Hits 500K Reservations as Excitement Builds for Dylan Wang and Tian Xi Wei

A new poster is out today for C-drama Guardians of the Dafeng from the production company and Tencent to celebrate the drama hitting 500,000 reservations on the streaming platform. Starring Dylan Wang and Tian Xi Wei, the drama is adapted from the same name novel and seems like a swashbuckler type story. I continue to love Dylan’s ponytail look and Tian Xi Wei does cute without coming across too-cutesy which is quite a fine line to tread.

  1. They both have outstanding visuals and decent acting in general. I’ll check out the drama. TXW was said to be a fangirl of Xiao Zhan. I really hope to see her costar with XZ. I wonder why she didn’t get any chance. I’m demurring about XZ’s FLs he got so far. I wish nepotism hadn’t got in the way.

    • what makes you think nepotism got in the way? Since he’s been elevated to male lead, I think his leading ladies are kind of half half. Yang Zi and Li Qin are good costars. I did not like his pairing with Meng Meiqi and Wu Xuanyi. I actually think Ren Min is a good actress, and would’ve been a better costar in a modern drama. I’ve never seen Zhuang Dafei in anything, so I’m going to reserve my judgment.

      • It’s plausible nepotism also came in the way of the casting decision for his upcoming movie. I think Ren Min is hard working and decent until the 2nd half of The Longest Promise when she seemed to lose timely expressions, specifically her crying scenes and timing were off prolly because she was exhausted from crying too much already? She isn’t experienced enough to carry along a female-centric idol drama. She doesn’t have the kind of charisma an idol drama entails a FL. YZ and LQ were ok but still not very impressive. Bai Baihe is perhaps the best actress among all his FLs. It’s just how the plot of SBMS was written going distracted by the unnecessary three hockey Musketeers. LOL

Both TLP and SBMS had marked footprints of nepotism that made negative impacts on the drama quality. Ren Min’s agency was one of the investors for Tencent. The hockey pair in SBMS came out of nowhere. It’s so obviously thanks to nepotism. The only drama that I don’t see nepotism play behind the door is The Youth Memories, which turned out to be the best of XZ’s dramas since The Untamed.

      • ah I see. your comment was not limited to female leads. I had assumed it was since you said you were demuring about his female leads. The hockey couple did have a ridiculous amount of screen time.
