C-actress Yang Zi isn’t just a famous child actor turned into even more famous adult actress and a top liuliang starlet in her own right, she also has the reputation of being a husband maker. That’s a phrase given to wives who after marrying a man he becomes even more successful. It’s kinda shitty in this day and age to think that a woman’s worth is on making her man better but it’s an antiquated phrase when women were only ever wives and mothers so let’s not quibble. Anyhoo, she’s in talks for her next drama which is likely the S+ budgeted drama adaptation of Flourished Peony, it’s gone through a few potential male leads but the latest is Li Xian and it’s causing all sorts of ruckus. If they do confirm it would be a reunion from their hit 2019 drama Go Go Squid and reportedly there was massive shipping of the two. One would think this reunion is good for ratings but apparently his fandom doesn’t want it because of the accompanying shipping mess but the pundits are saying it would be stupid for him to turn down a rare S+ drama (only 5-6 made a year with this level of budget) in any case and definitely in the case of working with Yang Zi who only ever delivers hit after hit. Word.
I can’t wait because the delulu fans have been fighting since the first melon dropped. She is usually awful in her drafts, leeching and blackening but his fans are just as bad so it’s a free for all. If you speak Mandarin, grab the popcorn.

That husband maker reputation thingy is actually marketing from her team. Sad, isn’t it? Yes she has some hit dramas, but it’s not true that she only delivers hit after hit, The Destiny of White Snake, My Mowgli Boy, Psychologist, Immortal Samsara etc certainly aren’t hits. Her trick is to stop all mention of her failed dramas and only highlight her hit dramas while boasting about being a husband maker. This is why I constantly can’t warm up to her.

I would not sat I know her very well but I have followed her since she started as a kid and know she has been thru tough time too. She will never take for granted her current fame as she knows how easy to loss it. She is a very sincere person thus she has tons of friends in the industry. She has high EQ skills and do make many artiste around her comfortable thus they do have good chemistry.
It will be interesting to see how this pairing works in period drama…
U r right Lilith,that hit after hit, I feel is a statement we need to stop using for all actors in general, i feel no actor actually do hit after hit imo, that is saying that all the dramas they have starred in r all hit , which is a lie because, they have a few duds in between, Rather they create more hit than duds, that acceptable phrase in my opinion.i like her but for some reason am not crazy about her, have only completed the oath of love, because I was watching it whiles it was airing n also for XZ, i wanted to see what the rave is all about, n i get it whiles i watched him. Ashes of love and Go go squid Start of so slow that I get bored before it get to the engaging part,I had to drop them. Maybe I will have been able to watch them when it was airing while I watch it salmutanously. The reason why I say this is because when oath of love finished airing, I decided to rematch it, since I enjoyed it so much ,but couldn’t find that too either. Am yet to check out lost u forever , to see if I can complete finally complete another one of her dramas. Yang zi is a better actress than DD but for some reason,have completed most of DD dramas than hers,I get that DD is a limited actress to most people but she has played characters that have absolutely enjoyed watching.Am yet to enjoy a really enjoy a character that yang zi have played, maybe lost u forever will be it.
It’s actually very disrespectful to her co-stars and undermines their hard work in making their characters shine, but the husband maker excuse is the only way she can save face when time and again the male leads have outshone her.

The reason his fans made such a ruckus was because to them it’s insulting to his status that he returns to second billing under her, which insinuates that he hasn’t made any progress since their last show.
Seems like there’s endless fanwars in C-ent. Billing is one of the stupidest things they fight about. They should be more concerned about whether their fave has a well-written character and prepares diligently for their role because supporting characters outshining mains (Journey to You, Fireworks in my Heart) will bring them huge amounts of hate. By then, billing order becomes even more pointless.

Even if LX is second billing, I don’t think he’d mind, only his fans are bothered by it. I think its more insulting to him that his fans think they have a say in what he wants to do with his career. lol His last drama Meet Yourself with Crystal Liu, I’m sure he got second billing due to her status. LX is good friends with YZ, if they pair up again, its unlikely he will reject this due being second billing, he would accept the drama due to story and reuniting with YZ.

I really feel there is no need to speculate so much who created such rumours…as the 2 artiste themselves do want to work together, they are still good friends all these years. And it is so easy to get caught up in fan-wars that is started by trolls.

I thought Wu Lei was focused on his film career? YZ and WL would be a…strange couple…they would look like siblings, not lovers. I don’t mind LX because I liked LX-YZ together. Who knows, maybe it was even YZ who suggested casting LX or vice versa…isn’t it rare to get two big stars to come together again after so many years anyways? Unless they do want to work together again. Fans should be overjoyed this should be happening because they share a good friendship and really push each other towards success. Billing? Who said this was determined by fans is beyond me. Fans shouldn’t have the right to this decision unless, they producing and spending millions to make a drama.

Its quite a shame their fans are fighting over something they shouldn’t be able to control when LX and YZ are two of the friendliest costars in recent years. They’ve known each other for a long time and have watched out for each other even before Go Go Squid. Fans need to accept they will eventually team up again rather in this project or something else. They have respect for their careers and we should too.

This husband making title is so ridiculous,if u ask me most of the porpular chinese actresses elevate their male leads to certain point too. Yang mi,Zhoa li ying,DD, li yei fei, lu shi shi, Ruby lin,have all done it to certain extent in their prim. Because they were in great production,had good scripts and Played interesting characters and they r good actresses one way or the other depending on what u r looking for in an actor or actress.Do u think that if they were in poor production, with poor script, do u think there will be any elevate, NO and let us give credit to the male actors that put in performance that propelled themselves too, so many factors come to play for actor and actress to be elevated in their career. The exceptions r the BL dramas.
Koala, I don’t care what maker YZ is. I just can’t get over her PS face. Sorry to perhaps annoy her fans. Seriously, why and when did she got her face done? It’s so distracting! I wasn’t turned off when watching Go Go Squid. But I found her unnatural looks with heavy makeup all the time in the Oath of Love annoying.
I watched the Oath of Love for Yang Zi but ended up liking actor XZ. LOL. Husband maker? I don’t think she made XZ more popular though. OoL was a hit in early 2022 mainly bcos of XZ, not YZ making the drama and XZ popular the other way around.

To be fair, most Chinese actresses have super heavy makeup on and have touched up something on their faces. Lol YZ seems to be getting thinner and thinner each year which helps change a face drastically. She’s also getting older, I didn’t think she matched any of her costars in LYF, personal opinion. Almost positive she’s done something to her face too but I think she’s aging the best compared to other actresses her generation.
I don’t get the kind of philosophy for makeup artists to glue heavy makeup on C actresses. LOL. Bloody lips are particularly distracting. I found the same annoyance on Bai Lu’s makeup too. And Raba, and…Yeah you’re right! Almost every C actress I can think of has this problem. It actually ruins the filming quality. The makeup doesn’t look good under unnatural lighting. Filters make it worse.
She has honestly not made any know popular actor who have acted with her get elevated in theirs career status, it the less know actors which is not a bad thing per say but I will give credit to the actors performances than to her.
Go Go Squid was entertaining because the two former classmates had fun doing it together. It will be great to see more creative collaboration like that among former schoolmates. Go Go Squid project set a high bar for their teamwork so may they prepare well for their next project together. Li Xian’s project choices have been more entertaining to me. Meanwhile, Yang Zi is so gifted and brings depth to her roles. Their projects are gateways to checking other C-dramas that their co-stars lead in. On Li Xian and costume dramas, he was looking fine in Sword Dynasty but his Soul Snatcher’s hairstyle was distracting. Both costume period type projects had enjoyable segments.
