SBS Fri-Sat Fantasy Romance My Demon with Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang Premieres to 4.5% and 3.4% Ratings

So this weekend it’s jam packed in K-drama land there is literally too many interesting dramas all airing at the same time so pick away at what strikes your fancy. SBS premiered My Demon in the Fri-Sat time slot and the opening ratings are 4.5% dropping the next night to 3.4%. This drama was never about ratings but more whether Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung can deliver fantasy romance magic in terms of a watchable and tingly-inducing onscreen pairing. The answer is a resounding yes, there is plenty of back story waiting to be revealed, lies and danger lurking behind the shoulder, and instant and growing stronger chemistry between the leads. The direction is also heavy on the romance and slow mo haha the ending scene in episode 1 was such cheesy perfection I love it! This drama is delivering exactly what I was hoping for, no more no less.

SBS Fri-Sat Fantasy Romance My Demon with Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang Premieres to 4.5% and 3.4% Ratings — 143 Comments

  1. Considering the amount of criticism the drama is getting for the bad acting especially the female lead who is finally being criticised for her always over the top acting is doubt the answer is a resounding yes. I don’t think ratings matter either but bad acting is still bad acting and no amount of popularity should cover that up.

    • Exactly. I’m glad people are now finally realizing she’s always been a ham/overacting actress. I think people, Koreans especially, had rose-tinted glasses when it comes to her because she was a child actress and I’ve read that koreans have a soft spot for child actresses/actors, so it’s only now they’re realizing she’s not really the great actress they thought she was. And I’ll admit she was a good child actress, but that’s about it. Her lack of critical acclaim since transitioning into an adult actress speaks volume lol. Her fans can cry for all I care lol, eff that arrogant fandom 😂

      • All the plastic surgery and shielding from fans hasn’t helped her acting it seems. I haven’t seen the drama yet but the online forums are full of comments about her and his terrible acting. Pann has been covering them too surprisingly because she was a huge fan. Every few weeks there’s a new plastic surgery post about her. The poor acting was always there but nobody wanted to admit it before. I’m surprised it’s the knetz themselves who bought it up. It’s never happened before so it must have shocked them.

      • Don’t worry her fans are gonna claim their unnie winning yet another paid award at the year end negates all the comments about her mediocre acting. This has always been their trend.

    • She’s always been very mediocre but got away because of the nostalgia people felt for her child roles. Now with all the rising young actresses like Han Sohee, Go Youngjung and especially Noh Yeonso people have higher expectations of acting and the beauty standard has also changed substantially. Those trying to copy the badass chaebol vibe that Han Sohee has naturally will always fall flat and the overacting will be obvious.

      • Actually she’s considered one of the most beautiful actresses in Korea with a flurry of beauty sponsorships… this is an objective point of view…

      • In South Korea, she’s literally won many ‘most beautiful’ polls. I’m Korean, my partner’s Korean and we have plenty of Korean family in South Korea….

      • Flurry of beauty sponsorship? She’s only been with Laniege till now. Flurry is what HSH have with luxury brands. Don’t oversell her beauty and popularity with fake comments. Also people are talking about her acting here which is pretty bad. She’s finally being exposed for it too. Her fans really thought a chaebol role made her all boss girl but forgot she has no versatility. All her roles feel the same and she has no nuance in any of her characters.

      • “considered one of the most beautiful actresses”, yes, by her fans. Lol they’re fans, of course they’re going to think she’s the best thing since sliced bread 😂
I don’t see any of her fellow celebrity gushing over her beauty or picking her as their ideal type, unlike other actresses her age. And the other commenter is right, she’s no Han So Hee who has ambassadorships with beauty brands left, right, and center. Stop overrating her beauty, she’s weird-looking with a weird, wide face shape and is even more weird-looking now after her “enhancements”. Next!

      • I’m indifferent towards KYJ. Only watched her in Moon Embracing the Sun, so I don’t have any say for her acting. But from the looks side, I think she’s really pretty.

    • It’s the Song Kang effect. He drags everyone down. Boy is gorgeous to look at but is a charisma suck and can’t act his way out of a paper bag.

      • wait, I’m not even a fan of SK, but why blame it on him? her dramas post-moonlight all had average ratings to downright fl*ps like clean with passion for now with 1% ratings, even without song kang (i censored the word fl*p because it seems like koala is filtering out comments with that word). i agree he’s not a good actor, but it’s not just his fault this drama is tanking lol

    • Woah.. as someone who has spent 25 years watching lots of tv shows across all platforms and countries, i believe that the comments here towards kim yoo jung’s acting are mean and rude. It stinks of personal hate. Yikes. It’s unfair that you compare her with han so hee as they’ve played way different characters.

I enjoyed the first 2 eps. The pilot isn’t the best there is but i agree with koala that the ending is perfection. Ep 2 showcases kim yoo jung’s acting experience and i’m surprised that song kang is good in acting too.

If kim yoo jung may seem overacting to you, that may be because her roles demand her to be very expressive. I remember her acting in 8th night is subdued because that’s the character.

Koala, i suggest you censor some of the posts that just brew hate and malice. It’s evident that the initial comments here are meant to cyberbully kim yoo jung and nothing else. It’s your site so you have every liberty to show what your audience sees. I rarely visit your page anymore because of this kind of discussion. It’s 2024 and we still tolerate such bullying?

People are dying at the other side of the world and here we are — Instead of celebrating positive, beautiful stuff, we turn everything into hurt and malice.

We should all be more than this.

      • Koala in her own way started the hate train towards KYJ on her platform. KYJ haters found their safe space here, as they know that koala based on her previous writings was passive-aggressive to kyj. She may now be trying to walk back and appear positive to all, but you still can’t erase the fact that she breed this type of commenters.

      • Overacting doesn’t mean more expressive. What is this Hwang Jung Eum level of logic? Just let her do makjang dramas then she can be as “expressive” as she wants. Nobody will criticize her mediocre acting then and just so you know the comments about her not so spectacular acting are all over numerous forums. Its the wrong role for her she isn’t fit for this kind of role yet and the comparison with Han So Hee was about beauty and we all know Han So Hee is the epitome of beautiful and she’s a true girl crush.

      • Actually, this is pretty tame compared to the comment section years ago. I remember there used to be a Lee Minho stan and a Suzy stan who were infamous for not only throwing hate on each others’ faves, but other Korean artists as well. And the insults were downright vile complete with personal attacks on the artists, threats, and online harassment. Comments on acting and visual were too tame for them. It was insane. I wonder if they were IP blocked by Koala lol.

      • Hey Palat, can you explain what you mean by “Hwang Jung Eum level of logic.” I’m impressed how you easily trashes two actresses and one commenter (me) in just one statement.

    • YOO JUNG is good in lovers of the red sky. And Yoojung is not totally bad here more like underwhelming for someone who is as talent as her. The bad acting is Song kang.

    • If you think she’s bad in acting so it’s ok if you don’t watch the drama . We love her no matter what you say . Your a fan of Han So He. But we fans of Kim Yoo Jung never rude or say bad words to her even though some of her act so obviously force😅 . Why ? Are you jealous? Why are you protecting SK too? It is because you like the couple SK and Han so he , right? If you like them , like them . No more words. But we love the couple Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung … Let our Kim Yoo Jung no luxury’s brand …maybe that’s what you think .
Are you afraid that SK fall in love to my KYJ? 😅🤣🤣🤣 Don’t worry their hiding their relationship status . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  2. LOL Where are the delulu fans of KYJ who was so sure this drama will be a hit 😂

Her fans are always so arrogant and they never learn that being that arrogant always backfires 😂😂😂

Also, when the drama was first announced and her character was described as a cold girlboss type character, I knew she’s going to overact again and turn up the whole bossy b*tch angle and it’s going to be cringe fest because everytime she tries to be badass, it always looks forced and cringey. And I was right lol. This girl is the most overrated actress of her gen. Her fans act like she’s this great actress, but let’s be real, since transitioning to being an adult actress, she’s never been critically acclaimed and now everyone’s seeing her acting for the overacting that it is (except for her delulu fans, of course 🥴) lmao. Seems like she can only play cutesy or damsel in distress type characters, huh? This girl never had acting range and was only good as a child actress lol

    • Fans always want the best for their bias right? Our fandom claiming the drama to have high ratings & be successful internationaly doesn’t affect your fave or your life & we are not the only fandom doing that right? So why are you affected if the show got low ratings? If it didn’t manifest it’s fine. Life goes on. Yoojung is still earning money from the drama except for you though.

    • Relaxxx Narwhal your heart step on the break 😂, I bet your waiting for this your whole life to spit those words of fallacies.🤔 Is the female lead an opponent to your fav? thaewt you need to call out kim yoo Jung’s fans only? Is the bad acting comes from the majority of the population’s feedback? Or just a piece of cake from the whole cake? Your conclusion is groundless.

Anywaysss…Am I watching the same drama as the “haters”, cuz why is it that everyone is pointing at the actors acting??? I was immersed in the 2 episodes didn’t even give me the time to check if they are acting properly, it looked natural and funny to me. Especially where the female lead’s acting after they get dunked into the river where she expressed raw emotions. Fiery eyes, voice, and palpable anger are testament to her exceptional acting skills. It is indeed true as said by many that her eyes is her asset. I feel like people are purposely critiquing the actors and drama because of their dislike of the actors.
Also, I saw on twitter that this drama is doing well globally even tops the #1 spot on netflix to other countries. This simply means that the leads are effective in portraying their role. I also want to point out that not every person who praises the actors/actress acting are their fans only if you think otherwise then it’s you who are delulu. Conclude only that they can’t really act if they didn’t get any awards that recognize their talent and capabilities.

  3. lol this drama looks like an adaptation of some sh*tty Wattpad story haha. also, what’s up with the filters? makes them look ghostly lol

    • Koala you took the words right out of my mouth😂. Episode 1 ending was sooooo cheesy and yet I kept rewatching it, it was beyond perfect. And the chemistry is explosive😂😂…I love it

  4. I recall when Yoon Eun Hye (my love) played chaebol or heiress in my fair lady and people were losing their hairline over it, saying she was a terrible actress and her diction or intonation wasn’t good for an heiress, just basically hot and bothered about ridiculous stuff. If I’m not mistaken this is the first time yoo Jung is playing very rich, an heiress at that and people are losing their marbles already? How predictable. If she was playing an average girl or just a girl anyone can be, then no problem, but she dares to act rich and they’re looking for faults here and there. It’s like history repeating itself, what is so bad about her acting really? All you confused admirers need to relax and hold your peace. Yoo Jung ah fighting!!

    • Considering how YEH and her career got wiped out I think you’re right the same ending will happen for KYJ and her lack of talent.

      • The point is, back then haters were losing their minds because Eun Hye was killing everything. Same with yoo Jung, the girl is killing the role while maintaining beauty, the hate is a must, doesn’t erase her talent or beauty though, but why not, give it your best shot

      • She could act anytime she want. She’s rich enough to not do anything. She got house, car, cafe. All her YT vids are about her enjoying her life. At 40s can you do the same? Enjoying your life and not working. So she’s already successful in her life and doesn’t need to sweat about it anymore. So your comment about her not having a career is really funny. She chose to live that way.

      • I enjoy watching her YTs. It is very relaxing and spiritually comforting. I am so happy to see Yoon Eunhye in a happy and comfortable place now. She does what she wants. She can still act if she wants. I too dont think she does not have a career…she just choose to do something different.

      • Yoon Eun Hye is living another life . I think that she would act only if she was offered an interesting role which will never happen . She never had the chance to work with the big Screenwriters , and back then she only worked with actors that weren’t popular . It was already great that she could achieve what she has ! Sad because she stills until this day my bias . She had so much charisma and potential . Her movie is actually in some China theaters .

    • Lol the excuses your fandom use to cover up your fave being the fl*p that she is. Hilarious 😂 You’re now even using Yoon Eun Hye, huh?

Just admit that you all became too arrogant (as usual for your fandom lol) in predicting that this drama will be a hit and now it’s backfiring to you all (as always too). LMAO, love to see it! 😂😂😂

By the way, shout out to the commenter who was trolling the MLL post before, bragging that this drama will be a hit, as if these two are ratings magnets. Hi! 😂

      • Hmmm a fan of MLL I see. I remember whose your bias…Anyway atm MyDemon is now ranked 3rd on top shows in Netflix for Nov 27th; No. 1 in 12 countries incl SouthKorea, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand…with only 2 episodes released. And Im not bragging, not at all. Just saying it didnt fl*pped, far from it. You just wished it did. You thought a couple of negative articles abt kyj posted on pannchoa is the absolute truth when we know haters could easily spew lies and nonsense and vitriol everywhere. Case in point, you posing as 17 (or more?) different users. I hope karma reaches you online.

      • So i was right. You’re a fan of Kim So Hyun. You are dragging her down with what you’re doing.

If you are truly confident about KSH, you wouldn’t need to trash anyone. And.. pls take care of your mental health. Spewing hate can be harmful and toxic to you, truly. Don’t do this again, alright? It’s good koala called you out, it’s for your own good too.

      • Damn, you are so persistent on proving your point so much. Just admit that you don’t like her instead of saying nonsense. She acts well and the drama is doing so well. Drink some water and cry as much you want.

  5. I love how the haters expose themselves so easily. If you don’t like it – and I obviously mean some of the comments here – then why not move on and watch something else, instead of spreading hate.

    • No amount of you all crying over “haters” will change the fact that she’s a mediocre actress with overrated acting and overrated visuals and with no critical acclaim since she became an adult actress. And no amount of crying will change the fact that this drama is flopping. Next!

      • Flopping and yet it’s currently among the top 3 in netflix tv shows of asian countries. Relearn the definition of the word “flopping” before you use it please.

    • Today I learned: criticizing bad acting = being a hater

Dang, your fandom is sensitive AF. The comments here aren’t even half as bad as the comments your fellow fans used to write on this site, with personal attacks towards other actresses and extreme insults. Now you all are crying because your fave is being exposed for the bad actress that she is. Cry about it 🤷‍♀️

  6. haters are obviously spreading lies here. if you watched it without prejudice you will see Yoojung is not overacting at all and Song Kang is not bad. tbh people are afraid of its potential. lmao.. have a life. touch some grass. support your own fave. hype them for all i care instead of spreading hate on a drama without your bias.

    • Nobody is spreading lies go to Pann and Insitz the comments about the bad acting comes straight from korean netizens. Even theqoo chat talks about the bad acting. Heck even on MDL people are talking about the average acting. You’re trying very hard to defend something that is true.

      • There are also positive posts about yoojung & my demon on pann why you didn’t mention that? Anyway yoojung haters are really working hard because she is active right now so keep being pressed behind your screen or whatever while she is still earning money.

  7. This drama is a wattapad novel come to life with two very bad actors. No scratch that even the supporting actors are flat. Song Kang I don’t think anyone expects anything from him. Except for Sweet Home, which was too gory for me but his acting wasn’t hurting my eyes, he’s been sooooo bad in everything else. Especially that weather drama his acting was physically painful to watch. I don’t understand why he ever got this popular or what Netflix sees in him but this drama is perfect for those vapid brainless watchers who just want to see pretty without any substance so this should do just fine on Netflix but 16 episodes of vapid eye candy is a bit much. Someone tell Song Kang to stick to being a pretty face on magazines please.

    • he lucked out on love alarm for real. aside from having a competent female lead in love alarm, his character there for some reason spawned a lot of fangirls who will watch anything he’s in. but seeing the ratings for this one, apparently, that isn’t enough lol. i agree, he’s a bad actor lol *cue his cringe fangirls foaming at the mouth*

      • Competent female lead? KSH should be considered a mediocre actress too if people are coming for KYJ’s acting. Bffr.

    • “Those vapid brainless watchers who just want to see pretty without any substance”
Lol you’re describing Jennilee above who’s writing essays defending this mediocre drama and her mediocre fave, going as far as using another actress’s name to do so lmfao. Also, like, 95% of Song Kang’s fandom 😜

  8. This drama has quite a good amount of marketing invested pre-realised. To be honest, there are other good dramas and variety shows that are every good. Not surprised rating dip when audiences are not finding this good enough.

But who knows, what will be be like towards the end of the series. I may not a fan of these 2 leads even thru they look very beautiful. I do wonder if these 2 leads can develop good chemistry. Kim Yoo Jung is better if she is led into a role by a good co-star. She struggles on her own. If her co-star is a weak actor, it will affect her too.

There are afew strong child actresses that can hold on their own as adult. I enjoy watching them but they dont always get good script.

    • @vlive, yes or no. I used to visit here quite often a few years back but took a break from the whole drama land just to focus on my career. I did not get active again until 2022. Koala’s blogs used to have A LOT of comments on K drama when C dramas did not share equal amount of coverage years ago. But traffic seemed to shift to C drama section since she increased blogging of C drama.

  9. Disappointed by this drama really. On paper i woulve picked this over park’s marriage contract, but after watching both the opposite turns out to be true. Song kang lacks charisma (Park Min Young saved him in FLW), while Kim Yoo Jung is a one trick pony who can only play crazy but endearing spunky girls without any nuances.

    • comments like these just make me realise you people say Yoojung only plays spunky crazy girls as if Thread of Lies doesn’t exist

  10. everytime there’s a kim yoo jung or kim so hyun article, it’s always messy and filled with haters. it’s only been 2 episodes, so i won’t judge their acting yet. however, the first two eps and just the whole premise in general screams fanfic. i guess long-time kdrama fans will find it nostalgic lol.

    • i think if its KYJ articles will be negative comments from head to toe. KSH articles will mostly be praising her to high heavens and defending her. Maybe Koala would know why some are embolden to hate another actress and blindly praise one. Her writings are middle-ground now, but during the peak she nurtured and emboldened haters for kyj due to her passive-aggressive digs.

      • I may agree with this. Koala used to be very polarized herself about her own review of drama and acting. She’s getting toned down now perhaps bcos of age? We all are. LOL

      • That’s my theory too. I think majority of Koala’s audience are Kim So Hyun’s fans who believe trashing Kim Yoo Jung will benefit KSH.

  11. Exactly this. I mean, I will not be watching this drama because I don’t fins it interesting like AT ALL, but I find the level of hate the leads get here really off the charts. Like either of them stole their boyfriend or got the job they were eyeing or something. Same goes for KSH. How is it possible to hate on an actor that much… If you don’t like them, just don’t watch them.

  12. I think the casting is a mess. When I saw the trailer I already felt the non chemistry. Kim yoo jung is another park so dam. Good in movies but struggle to hold interest in dramas. I didn’t like Love in the Moonlight either. She felt like pbg’s sister in it for me. I agree with the poster above that the child actresses didnt exactly transition too well into adult acting. None so far has been that successful except for Park Eun Bun. In another note Castaway Diva is another misfire for me. The plot is just not holding up and its a total fairytale. Her voice is not great nor special and the kpop indudtry reality is that such singers dun make it at all so its kinda jarring to push the superstar agenda. Lost all interest in kang nam soon also. Nothing to watch these days… sigh

  13. Two episodes is way too early to comment about a drama and it’s quality and I’m not one to focus on ratings. But I agree about the acting being meh for both leads. I’ve felt in their previous works and honestly Song Kang is a lost cause at this point but it’s about time the female lead is recognized for her lack of talent as well. Especially when her fans are trying to drag other actresses for being mediocre all over Twitter. These two were cast in this drama purely for their visuals and fan casting potential that the investors wanted. They are both misfit for their roles and need to go to a proper acting school to learn the basics first. When actresses like Go Minsi and Kim Sia exist this kind of old school over the top acting doesn’t work anymore. Our expectations are much higher now even for campy cheesy romcoms. Especially when Seol Inha and all have delivered far better.

  14. She act really good, this is weird, it’s like you finally see a hater.
It’s one of the drama where the protagonist is not a one note bossy girl, she actually feel nice and warmth but also has teeth. She feels more real and all people say is she overrated. It’s like the usual romcom hater when people hate it because it’s on romcom. If this had been murder mystery, I know I wouldn’t see this comment

  15. Korean really dislike this drama. the rating TV is considered very low for the Fri-Sat SBS timeslot (2nd lowest as overall for Fri-Sat SBS drama of all time). but they didn’t even enter Netflix top 10 South Korea. Other lower TV rating dramas at least doing well in the domestic OTT. but My Demon unfortunately didn’t do well in both medium. tbh, I’ve never been a fan of KYJ. but I’m surprised that I still feel quite saddened with outcome? i feel bad to Song Kang tbh. but he’s indeed the son of Netflix. at least he saves this drama internationally. but i bet his Sweet Home 2 will have more positive outcomes.

  16. The amount of hate the show is getting here, I feel it being overly criticise at this point. Have watched the first episode n I didn’t think it bad has people make it sound, acting is also serviceable,it entertainment people, why all this negativity. Isn’t this what makes the entertainment industry fun, where we get good shows, middle ground and bad shows because it cater for different audiences. I feel we go far with our words just for a show that will end within a month and half time n move on to another. It not a big deal people, there r far more important things than this. At the end of the day entertainment is for our pleasure,i get that there are instances where a show turn out to be great for n u learn one or few things, which is awesome but if it not, move on. Sometime certain criticism u read just sound like pure bully and hate imo to the extent that we insult our fellow commenter, why should it be so, n for a show that will be off air in two months time, can we be a little bit positive jeez.

  17. People hardly criticize KYJ’s acting and drag her co star for being a bad influence? Lmao. She was in a drama with Ahn Hyo Seop when many people criticized his acting. But she was praised nicely.

Neither a fan of both actors but since i get bored with a story about a rich and a poor, this drama is a fresh despite being a little cringe but not that bad. Both are chaebol.. and hell yes, the wealthy marrying each other.

Their visuals match each others. Both are so good looking.

  18. Wow the comments here seem suspicious. I dont have any problem at all with the acting of both leads. I always had the impression that the experience Yoo Jung had was really evident in how natural&expressive her acting is. Pretty face cant cover bad acting for me. There are some good looking actors who i cant stand their acting. But for Song Kang, he may not be excellent yet, but he is doing fine for me.

Anyway, its been so long that I’m obsessed with a drama, to the point that I rewatch the episode, look for extra videos of the main couple, while waiting for new episode. Looking forward to Episode 3!

  19. lovely kim yoo jung and good acting as always. Love all her dramas and film, she is one of my favorite when it comes to Korean dramas/film.

  20. “I believe there is a psychological danger in hating someone so intensely, especially someone we don’t know and have never met. A number of studies have shown consistently that hatred – especially when directed at groups of people – can lead to negative individual and public health outcomes. And hating someone with such intensity whom we don’t know might increase our tendency to act on that hatred in harmful and dangerous ways,” says Kaston Anderson-Carpenter, assistant professor of psychology at Michigan State University.

  21. Haha wow, that’s a really bad rating, especially for an SBS drama! Now, watch her fans blame everything else other than her bad acting — I already saw one comment here blaming Song Kang, as if he’s the only lead in this drama. Next, they’re going to blame the writer, director, and SBS itself for “LaCk Of PrOmOtIoNs” lmao.

Her fans just cant stop being arrogant despite her dramas after love in the moonlight not doing very well. They seem to never learn their lesson that being an arrogant fandom will always backfire. I remember one of her fans on this blog claiming this was going to be a hit. Wonder where she is now 🤔

    • Yes, Me too.. Just finnished seeing the pilot episodes and can’t wait to see more

the story and the leads acting is good enough for me to expect anothers.. i hope it’s getting better! (please)

  22. Wow this comment section is filled with people the filled with misery showcased by their words alone. I mean sheesh the unwarranted plastic surgery comments, her acting, and her career. Its clearly personal because the criticism is not constructive, only meant to tear down who has been working hard her whole life since she was a child. How many of us are able to say we have had a career since elementary school? Mental health really has some of you in a chock hold.

    • What does having a career since childhood have to do with bad acting? McCaulkay Culkin had a career since childhood but he is by far the worst child to adult actor to exist. Its not tearing down a career its seeing bad acting for what it is. The comments about her one note acting having been building for years but its finally being exposed because her male lead is worst of the worst when it comes to acting and she has absolutely nothing to work with from day 1. The only reason she is getting more comments about her poor acting now because Song Kang is so bad that the bar is below the basement for him. People have just given up on him and so they decided to focus their energy on his co-star who turned out to be a disappointment too. Its a side effect of working with him even PMY was dragged for her acting because of him and all her weakness was exposed because Song Kang bring nothing to the screen. She picked the wrong partner just to get that Netflix airing.

      • I’m honestly not interested in a back and forth interactions on the internet. My words were very specific and intentional. If you don’t agree so be it.

  23. I think everyone dogging her is exaggerating, because she’s actually a pretty nuanced actor; she has a natural acting style. The problem with this drama after just the first ep is that she is NOT believable as a top CEO. Lol. Omgah nooo. And her playing a b*tchy brat (at least in that blind date scene with the male lead) is just weird. She can’t do it. It’s not cute! Lol. In most of her dramas, she plays a spunky girl who starts from the bottom and moves up to find success and happiness, but now that she’s starting at the top, it doesn’t match! It’s because she can actually bring depth to her characters, and because she’s playing a weak, shallow woman in this drama, UGH. I will say,the male lead is doing GREAT. Haha. I don’t even know who these new actors are, but he’s been charming.

    • Ok, I just skimmed through Ep 2… he’s pretty darn raw. Lol. His acting is super unpolished. He’s just fortunate that his boyish look and charm is enough for this below average story. Eep!

  24. Song Kang somehow manages to make all his female leads look bad. That’s some talent. At least he has Sweet Home to fall back on where the entire supporting cast will carry him on their backs.

  25. When Koala posted articles on this drama earlier and there were literally less than 20-10 comments, and now all of a sudden we have flocks of comments because ratings are out LOL. Ummm okay.

  26. “My Demon” Kdrama is in top 10 on global Netflix, I don’t know why South Korean people hate this drama so much, internationally this drama is so much popular. Specially Kim Yoo Jung always has a chemistry with everyone, for example in Backstreet Rookie there seem to be a such a large age-gap but she handcrafted that chemistry beautifully. She brings us the kdrama “Crash landing on you” main actress vibes, there aren’t many rich female CEO s’ in kdramas so i think she is perfectly chosen for this role, she demonstrates the strong and independent woman’s vibe that will brake the South Korean old standards about women, her acting in this drama is in another level and her chemistry with Song Kang is top tier

  27. It was pretty.

For the acting, I liked KYJ’acting and her style. For Song Kang, I don’t think he suits comedy. But maybe he will get better in the future episodes.

Park Bo Gum was very lucky with Moonlight, they filmed the first scenes again when he found his style for his character.

  28. I thought the premiere episode was really terrible (everyone was under-delivering) so I’m not surprised if some viewers ran away, but it picks up with the second episode.

  29. Wow the volume of comments! I thought this was about C-ent gossip. LOL. It’s really rare to have such a buzz in Koala’s Kdrama section. I did not plan to check this drama. Thanks to all the hate comments doing promotion 🤣, I’m gonna set aside Castaway Diva and watch KYJ first. LOL.

I watched Love in the Moonlight and Lovers of the Red Sky. I agree I’m not impressed by KYJ’s adult performance so far although I think her acting looks natural and I’m still fond of her childhood role in Moon Embracing the Sun, one of my all time fave dramas. To be fair, her acting doesn’t warrant many hate comments in this thread. Those malicious remarks aren’t reasonable critiques but more like bullying and harassment.

    • Just binged the first 2 eps. It’s not bad. Plot isn’t predictable and there’s enough suspension for me to follow a fantasy story like this. I’m in for this one. Thanks again for haters’ promotion! LOL

P.S. I have never watched Song Kang before. He’s cute. LOL

    • If you watch some older post you’ll see even worse . When it’s about Kim Yoo Jung or Kim So Hyun , it’s incredible .You can’t say anything about their acting, their drama without being whiped ! I don’t understand as both actresses are different . For me it depends on the projects they take . Some are my cup of tea others no . That’s why , last time i said that i like to watch Park Eun Bin ‘s dramas as there is no fan war ! I’ll watch My demon after Castaway Diva in which every actor was well casted . I forgot about the time that i said that i prefered Ro woon’s acting over Cha Eun Woo’s one . It’s a miracle that i’m still alive !

      • hahahaha. I found your last statement so entertaining. Sorry @cahill. LOL.
Yeah I must have been away too long. I don’t recall these two gals were nemeses. When did their fans turn against each other? LOL. So immature. I don’t see any resemblance in their acting styles or visuals anyway. So where does come the competition?

Oh yeah I’m certainly not a fan of CEW. I’m not familiar with Ro Woon though. Too much to catch up and too many new faces to get to know.

      • I know , in the laps of 5 years there are so much names that appeared and began as leads right away . I must admit that even if i wasn’t absent i have a hard time to remember all the names . I’m a boomer ! And yes, i’m french which explain my poor english !!!

      • I’m honestly amazed how Kdrama has evolved during this time. While we’re usually more used to the rapid development in technology such as AI, we may not be so ready for changing cultural things. I love to see how Kdrama has fast progressed into international market with broader audience including many American people who are starting to watch K-drama. I’m also amazed how Suzy is being talked about now vs how she was talked about years ago. Stark contrast on the same actress! LOL. Other examples are Junho and Song Hye Kyo. As a drama fan, it feels good to see so much growth in idol actors who were once regarded as nugus in the acting field and so much debate about one beautiful woman who’s now finally got her due recognition as a serious actor. I don’t feel missing much from this perspective given that I also made critical progress up my career ladder in the meanwhile. It’s worth the hiatus.

  30. This comment section is a such a throwback to the days when there would be endless toxicity between Kim Yoo Jung and Kim So Hyun stans, Lee Min Ho and Suzy stans, Lee Min Ho stan vs. everyone, Suzy stan vs. everyone. I though those days were past, but apparently not haha.

  31. can’t believe Koala is having faith in this below-average drama with two leads who can’t really carry the role.

ngl the premise is kinda interesting as it reminds me of those wattpad stories. I bet this gonna be like The King: Eternal Monarch but with better visual. Anyway, glad to see people finally realizing that SK is actually overhyped.

  32. “This drama was never about the ratings” – says who exactly? 😂

That sounds like an absolutely pathetic excuse for the low af ratings. There’s no need to justify it. A good drama is a good drama. Kim Bok-joo was amazing despite similar numbers throughout. But to say “it was never about the ratings” is a joke. In SK, and most especially for a public network, it is ALWAYS about ratings.

    • National tv ratings are no longer the main target for kdramas nowadays. Previously, low rating shows would be immediately cut down, but not necessarily now, since there are other ways a production company would gain profit. This show is trending in Netflix in more than 70 countries, and still trending in twitter for 4 consecutive days after the premiere. The extreme hateful comments here seem like coming out from people who are jealous of the attention that this drama & the leads are getting. You people can continue to be butthurt while Song Kang & Yoo Jung getting increased global attention&success.

  33. I did think it was a worrying sign that almost all the promo for this drama revolved around their visuals rather than selling the plot or acting.

  34. The drama is doing well on NETFLIX….
#4 Internationally and may rise in popularity.
Like it or not and hate the actors/acting/script/storyline/ plot/ direction/visualization….whatever,
the number$ $peak for them$elve$ and will likely continue to successfully do so.

  35. The amount of hate yoo jung and song kang is getting lol. I get it Yoo Jung is underwhelming here. But bad acting? Overacting? Nahhh More like underacting for me. It’s more like she doesn’t suit cold persona aura, she is just totally miscast and underwhelming rather than totally bad.

The bad one is definitely song kang. I didn’t expected he is so bad being in a comedy. I come to realiase comedy is really hard, not everyone can pull it off naturally

  36. Sigh, I hate doing this since it’s fine to have strong opinions but this thread just went overboard insane thanks to the same person commenting with different usernames. It’s not hard to attribute the impetus to being a KYJ hater.

  37. It’s clear at the onset that the genre of this tv series is a romantic comedy fantasy. The chaebol and demon roles should not be taken seriously or you will really be frustrated as a viewer. The tone and directing make that really obvious. The chaebol role for example isn’t meant to intimidate the viewers, same as how the demon’s role isn’t meant to be feared. This is the main reason why their acting is light and the “overacting” expressions are done to highlight comedic queues. There are still sad, heartbreaking moments but that is to emphasize that the show has heart and that it doesn’t trivialize the characters’ pain.

All I wish is when the show’s actors and staff read this blog, it is the constructive comments they take in and put straight to trash all the malicious comments. At the end of the day, NOT ALL audience are quick to put out toxic, spiteful and most of all, unproductive feedback. We may be fewer but we are still here – viewers who are just grateful for shows which effectively entertains and provide a momentary escape after a long busy day.

  38. Despite the dropping ratings,
#MyDemon trends on Netflix in 70 countries. Currently, it is the most popular OTT in kinolights (which combined series and movies)… It is also #1 on Netflix and Wavve. This essentially indicates how effectively it’s doing. The FL and ML are doing fantastically for me! In particular, Kim Yoo Jung did a great job portraying her role seeing the 2 episodes. I usually see her as a sweet and vivacious character, but this drama really brings out her badass side, and I love it. Her emotion and expression are on point.

Don’t tend to conclude unless everything is presented.

Most of the comments here are throwing below the belt words to the female lead like they are ending her career, are you in your right mind people?

Haters gonna be hate for they are clouded with so much insecurities/envy/comparisons. Waiting for something to devour exposing their true colors. So pathetic! Of course, don’t expect them to praise or give constructive criticism since they are blinded with hate. Even though, there are good news and developments, they are more triggered rather than being happy and celebrates with them.

  39. Pretty obvious she’s one hardcore kyj anti. Imagine using 17 diff usernames to post hateful comments. And speaking to oneself, agreeing and adding to previous comments she made but make it look like they’re diff persons. But you could only preyend as much before you can reveal yourself. Some of the comments I already read from previous kyj articles. Bet you’ve been doing this for years. To think you said kyj has delulu fans? LOL… Again, thank u ockoala for revealing this.

  40. KYJ’s problem is that there will be some part of KYJ in every character she plays. It makes her limited in range but she has stayed within romcom space so it’s not such a big issue – I find her very enjoyable to watch. She’s not a great actress, but she’s decent and she’s got a lot of charm, which can sometimes be a bigger factor than acting skills as to why an actor/actress is more enjoyable than another.

    • i agree with this! A lot of actors seem to gravitate to roles or characters that they can relate so they really have a tendency to show some part of their real selves in acting, and this is evident in almost all KYJ’s roles. Not that it’s bad, it’s just reasonable. If KYJ really wants to challenge herself she should try method acting or choose a role that’s 180 degrees opposite of her real self. She doesnt need to prove herself anymore, but if she wants to hone her craft which i think she does (joining theatre plays and all) then i suggest she does this. Look at what suzy did. Anna is her real breakout role.

I wish kim yoo jung read this

  41. Dang…i really thought Yoo Jung was bad in this from the amount of comments and had to go check out the drama and she was….great?? No surprise there but i’m more surprised that someone had such a hate boner for YJ that they would create so many handles just to back up their own opinion. What she do to you to warrant this? Or you feel slighted because she’s doing much better than your bias?

    • the hate here is SOO forced imo💀 I found this good with so much potential, the last bit of E01 was GORGEOUS, main leads are hot and the fantasy element if used well in the coming episodes will make this even better

  42. The hate comments made me watch this just earlier to see if the FL’s acting is really that bad. I guess it’s not bad but it’s not good either. The ML is also meh for me too but he’s always been that bland. Gotta watch something else instead since I wasted 30 minutes of my life with so much cliches (can’t even finish episode 1). This comment might be negative but it’s my opinion. I guess I should be ready with their fans coming at me.

    • It’s okay to not like it and say so. There is a difference between checking out a drama and ending up not liking it and just hating on it.

You don’t belong to the 2nd category.

    • Hmmm. So far the fans here of KYJ have been respectful of all feedback, albeit negative… your comment “i should be ready with their fans coming at me” has no basis with regard to this specific page. Comment all you want as long as it’s respectful and helpful.

  43. Checked out the first two episodes and it was….not great, but not bad either. I will agree that KYJ is underwhelming in this role, but then, I haven’t enjoyed her adult performances as much as I did when she was playing younger versions of the lead actress. She has stiff competition in her age group and while she is not one of the best, she is at best, a serviceable actress and doesn’t deserve the amount of vitriol that is being displayed in the comments. Song Kang isn’t a bad actor either, he isn’t the best, but he gets the job done. ‘Serviceable’ is a word I would use for him as well.

The first episode didn’t hit the right notes for me, but it wasn’t cringe. And I still plan on checking out the next two episodes to determine if I will watch or drop it.

I’ve been lackadaisical about Kdramas these days. Very, very few hold my interest as my passion has been redirected to Cdramas. Particularly the costume ones. Once in a while I check out a Kdrama, if it is good enough I’ll continue watching. If not, I’ll drop it and wait for the next hyped one to air.

  44. I watched the 1st ep today… Acting aside as that has been discussed enough. This first eps looks like a advertisement… I laughed more then 50% of the time. All watchable. Both leads lost so much weight!!! Song Kang needs abit more meat. This drama is clearly keen to show off Kim Yoo jung new super slim figure.
I love all the supporting cast…they make this drama grounded and fun to watch. I will continue again after this drama finishes.

  45. Saying yoo jung is a limit acctress make me what. Are we watching her in different drama? She is very versatile acctress and nuance actor. She is very good in lovers of the red sky.

  46. i just wish noh Yoon seo was cast in this drama instead, i could totally see her as an ice queen type! before anyone attack me, i have nothing against the female lead, i liked her in some of her dramas but i just don’t think she has the regal air that’s required for this type of role. she’s better in spunky, resourceful female lead type roles in my opinion

    • I agree. KYJ is a good actress. I liked her in Love in the Moonlight but I find her ineffective as a CEO. Maybe it’s because she’s very young looking that she doesn’t have an ounce of matured aura. They keep on casting actors for the visuals instead of casting who fits the role. SMH.

  47. That middle finger battle scene was crazy 🤣🤣 He can’t fight but needs to find a way to insult them somehow. Gu won is such a cute and petty demon xD

Just like Do hee, I thought Gu won was about to do something a little romantic. I can’t believe he yeet her into the river like that 😭 at least he redeemed himself by saving her from that acid

Gu won as a bodyguard next week will be chaotic!!! Here comes the torture of waiting

    • two episodes in and already loving it!! I wish i waited a few more episodes to air before starting to watch it bc now i dont think i can wait till the next episode 😭😭

      • Good that see that it’s not only me who enjoys this drama. Hahah
Favorite moments from 2nd episode was at hospital. The leads have great comedic timing. Love their bickering. I also have to applaud Kim Yoo Jung’s acting in that scene after she gets dunked in the river. Her outburst shows internally how desperately frightened she really is about who’s trying to kill her. And can just say how intense their stares are when they are looking at each other! Like two magnets.
I have read positive reviews on the MDL along with the acting of the leads so I gave it a try and yes they are so right. ❤️

      • Lol hahaha why do you keep on replying to yourself haha as if you’re three different persons ROFL. Koko, Ms. Jay, and Kk all have the same handle or am I not seeing something HAHAHA then replying to below comment with another name as Guru hahaha but also with the same handle. It’s just hilarious. Sorry to make fun of you. It’s just so so very funny to me. 😂😂😂

  48. A message for the haters:

This only has 2 episodes so far. WHAT PLOT ARE YOU NOT LIKING? THEY HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED IT YET! lol!!! Do you know that the first 2 episodes are always to start building characters and their background to be established for the long run. They barely began the switch of powers so hold your horses and wait for the plot to continue before saying there is no plot. Have the patience until all the episodes come out or atleast a chunk of it to give it a fair chance. If you PERSONALLY dislike the actors, and call it mediocre or terrible acting because of that… Well then that’s a you problem. You may not have liked them in other dramas but guess what? People grow and more opportunities allow them the chance to improve. If you do not have the patience to wait and find out or if it’s just their character who is meant to behave like this, then may be this drama isn’t for you.

However, if you like the typical fantasy romance and couple with visuals, this is for you

    • EXACTLY!!! They’re only introducing us to the route that the plot will take and what problems they have to solve throughout the drama. I don’t understand people who complain about no plot, there are so many I can think of on top of my head.

The mystery behind Gu won losing his power? The solution to how he gets his power back? The power struggle going on in Do hee’s family? The secret behind Do hee’s parents’ death and how it relates to the chairwomen? The identity and backstory of that mysterious guy who tried to kill Do hee? Gu won struggles in trying to live without his power and protecting Do hee? On top of all of these, we have their highly anticipated fake marriage life???

And I personally find Song Kang & Yoo jung to act their roles perfectly. The hate are so forced smh

  50. Whoa! What have we got here? Seems like World War 3 has started? Haha…
I hated coming here, to Koala, left some “motherly” advises here before, but seems the volcano is still brewing hates….
Hmm…looks like I gotta jump into the fire again…
I watch movies & dramas…of different genres. Yet, again & again, I love Kim Yoo Jung’s dramas. She has the charisma to pull me in. Other dramas, I stopped watching after 2 episodes (even the blockbusters one)….
And now, her role as Do Do Hee in My Demon. Love her fights with Guwon, giggling over their banters & arguments in Epi 1 & 2.
Of course, there are so many more beautiful & better actresses in the market, but I still fall for Kim Yoo Jung. She may be mediocre in your eyes, but to me, she’s THE ONE who always capture my attention.
    Love you, Kim Yoo Jung..Fighting!!!

  51. I am enjoying this drama, both leads have improved in their acting. Dialogue is funny and the pace is good, not boring… What’s with the comments here? lol… Glad Ms Koala calls out the delulus, what a joke 🤣🤣

  52. Trying to watch ep 3…didnt reach my expectation.the ML is trying his best to be lee dong wook…i dunno if i should continue…the slow flow is dragging.and besides what kind of demon fell in love..
