Jung So Min in Talks as Female Lead Opposite Jung Hae In in Rom-com K-drama Mom’s Friend’s Son

I don’t know how the production of upcoming K-drama Mom’s Friend’s Son managed to get two perfect leads in talks but I could not be happier. The drama has lined up Jung Hae In and bonus points for this being his first rom-com which is still so surprisingly that he got so popular and established without doing one yet. Now it’s revealed that Jung So Min is in talks for his leading lady as he’s the titular mom’s friend’s son that she falls for. This would be her first project since moving agency’s recently. I hope it’s confirmed soon and of course with the year so late already this will hit the small screen in 2024.

Jung So Min in Talks as Female Lead Opposite Jung Hae In in Rom-com K-drama Mom’s Friend’s Son — 23 Comments

    • Why is everytime this Rina person is commenting, it’s always some horrible take, comments whiteknighting men who don’t need defending, or just idiotic comments in general. Literally haven’t seen this person said something of value lmao. I can tell she’s definitely insufferable to be around in real life, such a miserable person 😂

  1. Can’t wait.. I hope the drama have “Because This Is My First Life” vibes cause it’s suitable with her dan him “aura” of acting ^^

  2. I trust in these 2 artiste’s acting skills. They know how to bring characters into life. As long as script and directing is good. It will not disappoint.

  3. I’m so happy for Jung So Min . She is a very good actress , i saw her acting growing since ” Bad Guy” , she is one of my favs . I’m ashamed because i don’t know much about Jung Hae In , never saw his works but i read a lot of good comments about him . I’m eager to watch this one .

    • I watched only one drama of JHI. He’s a total cutie pie in Something in the Rain, the noona romance with one of my fave actresses, Son Ye-jin. I watched the C adaptation of SitR first and it was boring to heck as most of the C contemporary dramas. I also watched another noona romance starring Yang Mi and Xu Kai, very popular C actors and it was a complete turn-off. LOL. I hated all the noona romance that was cringe worthy all the time until watching Something in The Rain that was a total charm. JHI had amazing chemistry with SYJ that actually turned me from a noona romance hater to wanting more like that. LOL. So I’m positively impressed by JHI thanks to that little noona romance drama.

I don’t know anything about JSM though. I have never watched any of her dramas. One or two to recommend?

      • “Because this is my first life ” with Lee Min Ki , “The smile has left your eyes” with Seo In Guk , and an old one Can we get married ? with Sung Joon

      • @cahill, thanks for the recommendation. I’ll check them out when I clear other Kdramas on my plate. Now I finally got to watch Castaway Diva and love it from the get-go. My girl Kim Eun Bin is a born talent no doubt. Doubters have zero IQ. I finally decided to pick up CD after watching 4 eps of over-hyped My Demon. My Demon is watchable because of the mystery in the plot and enough suspension at the end of each ep but the acting of main leads is just mehhhhhhhhhhh. Sorry have to offend their fans. Their visuals don’t make up their underperformance. I just can’t stand the underacting of Kim Yoo Jung anymore and need some rescue from KEB to compensate for what I’ve lost from my precious time off between projects. This is the busiest season for me at work before X’mas breaks. I’m an extremely efficient professional in my field and I treasure every minute of my time off. Watching unsatisfactory dramas is frustrating for me and a great waste of my life. Therefore, I won’t criticize with reserve.

      • Yes , watchable ! Sorry for the hard fans but it’s just my opinion . Song Kang isn’t credible as a Demon and his oufits of the 80’s make him look even more skinnier , even next to Kim Yoo Jung he looks like a kid . It wasn’t the case in Nevertheless, a drama that you can pass too . I liked to watch Castaway Diva , the character of PEB has similitaries with the attorney she was in her previous work . Both characters are untainted by the society( an autistic and a girl isolated for 15 years from the world) and make the people around them see the better , the brighter and positive side of themselves . It’s a comforting feeling that makes viewers hoping . I don’t know if people will understand what i mean !

      • I certainly get your points. Even with similarities to her attorney role in EAW and the plot of CD also had emphasis on the underprivileged and the weak in the society, PEB was able to differentiate between different characters and her acting was always nuanced, able to touch my heart deeply. I don’t see that in KYJ’s acting though although I do not dislike her and do hope she has breakthrough as a serious actor someday.

I realize why I love Kdrama more than Cdrama that I even have an obvious advantage of my mother tongue for the latter. That’s because Kdramas make me think, reflect upon humanity, and feel relatable in real life even with very creative ideas that transcend reality. I appreciate higher artistic values in the production of Kdrama in general. K writers’ mind seem to be rich with plenty of ideas at their disposal. And that’s really fascinating! Drama is an art form that’s supposed to be the easiest way among all arts to be connected with people. A well written and executed drama can elevate people’s soul to the deepest satisfaction. From this perspective, C drama in general is pretty lacking and shallow. I found Kdrama already very masterfully injecting surrealism into their writing and execution of serious life stories after all these years. I used to only watch western films with critical mind and highest appreciation. I watched Asian drama for putting-my-overworking-brain-to-hypnotic-breaks LOL without taking it seriously at all. TBH, I had very low regard for Asian drama in the past.
But now I found K drama can offer me similar gratification as excellent western films. I think creative writing and directing mentioned above changed that. As to C drama, there’s still a long way to go. Sorry for C fans.

      • Agree with you @Somebody . I only watched a very few C dramas and even if it may be entertaining i find them “shallow” . Kdramas are seen by many , also as mere entertainment but a lot of them have multiple readings level . It’s like some classic movies of Billy Wilder or Franck Capra for example , they may be seen as comedies but they are so much more than that . A movie as Some like it hot talks about the realm of male feminity, and even of homosexuality which was very rare at the time . It’s not a surprise that ” it’s a wonderful life” is a such well loved movie . By making comedies , theses fantastic directors made people reflect on subjects which were censored back then . Chaplin’s Dictator was a visionary masterpiecece , the same for Modern Times which stills reflecting the same social problematic as nowadays . All that to say that through “mere entertaining comdies” theses directors made us reflect about our society !

      • OMG! It’s a Wonderful Life! That’s one masterpiece of American X’mas saga. Traditional American families love to get together and watch the film around the most important holiday of the year. I also found some old American grandpas really handsome! LOL. I’m talking about James Stewart!

  4. Oh no, I am counting the time until Jung So Min’s haters will start their nonsense. She has the “privilege” of having the most rabbid haters, alongside Kim So Hyun and Kim Yoo Jung.

Anyway, I have never watched Jang Hae In in anything, maybe the time has come!

    • Oh, even she gets lots of haters? I was aware she collect quite alot from the drama with Kim Hyun Joong as he was just so popular then. So many jealous fans…I would say that drama was her Poison Chalice. I am glad she is a well respected actress now.

      • She didn’t have haters until the fiasco that was her exit from Alchemy of Souls. She only signed on for one season but the way production handled her exit was abysmal and left a very sour taste in her fans mouth. She basically became She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named by the cast and crew, even though it’s clear they loved working with her. Season 1 won an award and the director didn’t include her in his thank you speech even though she headlined the show for 20 episodes and joined the show because of loyalty to him. There were exhibits for the show and they excluded season 1 from it even though it made up 2/3rds of it. Crew members posted pictures with her and then deleted them. She didn’t go to the after party. She mentioned Mudeok maybe once or twice since leaving even though AOS1 was incredibly popular and Mudeok is an iconic character. She was very emotional during her next project, then she took a break from dramas to film movies. There was definitely something that occurred behind the scenes because this sort of censorship towards an actor is not common, but when her fans brought it up they were called delusional and toxic by the rabid AOS2 fans. Sure there are bad apples in every fandom, but nobody was allowed to miss Mudeok or JSM in AOS2 without being called a hater, it was quite something. Kinda wish she never signed on for AOS1 and just did the drama with Taecyeon that she was supposed to.
Her reputation precedes her though, and no amount of hate is gonna stop her from being incredibly talented.

      • @Jessica, I dont follow KDrama gossips much. I never realised she went thru that. I knew she did not star in Season 2 so I stopped watching as I was attached to her character in Season 1. To be honest, I trust her as a person, she has a good soul. The actor she used to date was a troubled soul but she stood by him. I felt it was a shame they broke up but that happens. I hope she finds a good partner one day that will be great to her.

She is a soulful actress. I will definitely support this drama.

      • That’s a good summary, Jessica. I felt sad that such a wonderful show became such a bizarre tug of war between two excellent actresses who did their best to create the same memorable character. I mean…fans will be fans, making their fan wars, but what really made me feel bad was how the production company seemed to kick her to the curb the second her services weren’t needed anymore. She jumped in to fill the spot at last minute, carried the lead character for 2/3 of the drama (20 episodes!), and her acting was well received at home and abroad. And then to be completely excluded from all mention ever after (including the awards for Part 1, where she played the main character!)…was just plain weird and in appropriate, IMO. It’s not like there’s a finite amount of praise in the world. It’s possible to praise her work AND support the other actress carrying the character to the end. Fans will be fans, I might not always agree, but whatever, it happens. But I felt like the industry itself stabbed her a bit in the back with that project, all the more noticeable and distasteful since so many people loved her in it.

Really hope the next project goes well, without any weirdness. I love her acting and she seems like such a sweet person in real life as well.

  5. I used to not like Haein cuz I thought he was just a pretty face in the drama with SYJ, but after seeing his performance in DP & Prison Playbook, I get it now.
