My Demon Continues to Deliver Classic Hallyu Youth and Fantasy Balanced Rom-com Cuteness Past the Midway Point of Airing

The weekend K-dramas continue to deliver for me, but it’s the lower ratings ones that have me hooked. SBS Fri-Sat drama My Demon is really as simple as they come and works because of it. Take two gorgeous age-compatible leads in Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang and surround them with a manufactured reason to spend time together resulting in a natural falling in love. The drama just hit episode 8 this weekend with the leads getting together in admitted feelings and those worried it would slowly flag heading into the second half can rest assured. If you’ve enjoyed it so far, you will continue to do so. This drama continues to be the cute winter bon bon treat so easy to savor.

My Demon Continues to Deliver Classic Hallyu Youth and Fantasy Balanced Rom-com Cuteness Past the Midway Point of Airing — 18 Comments

  1. My Demon is cute but not addictive , the chemistry doesn’t work for me . The story of Park’s marriage contract is better acting speaking , the couple is cute, but nothing more . I prefer Welcome to Samdal Ri especially the friends, the family,…it’s a pleasant watch and Jeju is so beautiful .

    • Yep. Its a miscast for me as well. Dropped it at Ep 6. KYJ looks too young for the role and SK is kind of wooden in this. Im only watching Park’s contract marriage and Soundtrack #2 (I actually like it better than Soundtrack #1) at the moment. Had to give Welcome to Samdal-ri a hard pass also as I cannot stand ji chang wook’s overacting.

    • My Demin is cute and yes Not addictive. The pkot could be better, Inwould say as it takes viewers a while to peak in certain scenes. More of a sli-mo compared to my ever favourite- best if its time the ‘ Business Proposal’.

Song Kang is undeniably handsome adn the only reason why Im watching but acting wise , he’s so far behind. Nice to watch and all as rom com but thats just it.

  2. It was episode 8 for My Demon.

This drama is such a fun watch, my favorite of the week-enders. The story is not complicated but I’m still curious about the past and Madam Ju’s death. I love our couple, their bickering and sweet scenes. I really like the humor too.

It’s very pretty too : the direction and the styling of the characters.

  3. The most recent one on last Saturday was Episode 8, Koala. Not 10. Not past the midway yet.

I LOVE this drama to bits and have been obsessed with it more and more since Ep1. Its been so long that a drama can get me obsessed like this. I couldnt even watch the other shows because my mind keep thinking about My Demon.

I end up rewatching the episodes, watching the clips and listening to the osts on youtube, reading people’s posts on twitter etc.

It just fits my entertainment need right now. A well-balanced of humor, nicely built romance, endearing characters, and wonderful cinematography, songs, and instrumentals. So far, this drama has been very addictive, and if it stays this good until the end, it will enter my small collection of shows that i can always return to for a rewatch when there are no good shows in the future <3

P/S: This drama is not without flaws, and people may have different perception of it. Those who watched until Ep4 and still didnt like it can just drop it and watch other shows, which suit your taste and current mood more.

  4. I have only watched up to episode 3… but anyone feel that Kim Yoo Jung and Lee Sang Yi (Suk Hoon) match better as a romantic pairing? I don’t think there’s any chemistry at all with Song Kang mostly because the latter is a terrible actor.

  5. I love you this time, Koala…you are still watching MyDemon even if the ratings are low.
I’m always the odd one out who watches dramas with low ratings and enjoyed them more than those with high ratings.
Well, My Demon has caught my attention & taken my breath away as well. I have to say this with lots of slow-mo….Song Kang & Kim Yoo Jung were the exact “mould” for each other. Their acting has grown by leaps & bounds in this drama. The demon potrayed by Song Kang was so cool, gorgeous & mischievously sharp. I’m really impressed by his acting as Gu Won. I just love the way Gu Won playfully jabs at people & other “creatures” around him. Kim Yoo Jung as the stunning, ethereal beauty -Do Do Hee makes me cry always when she speaks to the Almighty.. Her eyes are like sparkling diamonds when she tears up… and she’s the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen!!
I’m so captivated with the fluttering chemistry shown by the main leads in all their photoshoots & bts,not forgetting all the supporting characters as well.
The storyline keeps me on edge & there’s the real sadness & sacrificial death coming soon in the later episodes. Oh! And my vote for them as The Best Fantasy/Romance Drama & Best Couple of the Year..Fighting!!

  6. My Demon is absolutely designed for more overseas and younger domestic demographic and they are eating it up. Don’t believe me, just look at who sang some of the ost for the show. New Jeans and Aespa’s Winter. I am loving it. Its simple show, two very compatible actors, gorgeous to look at, funny, have amazing chemistry and mix in murder, fate, magic. I have 0 complaints. Love it.

  7. Ah should I pick up again? I’ve been distracted to other dramas, not feeling losing or missing anything. I don’t get the chemistry between the OTP. They looked so awkward around each other. LOL

    • @Somebody ,I don’t see the chemistry either . Both are too young for the roles . Kim Yoo Jung as a successful careerist and Song Kang as a demon of 200 years aren’t credible . You seem to enjoy great performances , i don’t know the genres you like but i recommend Under the Queen’s umbrella ( Bae In Hyuk plays one of the princes) There is another drama with great acting” Misty ” Kim Nam Joo and the other actors are great , but the drama is a little dark and the end was realistic . If you like dark dramas ” Through the darkness” is a must watch . Kim Nam Gil was just fantastic and his co lead too .

      • I just don’t feel these two are convincing in their roles. I watched Under the Queen’s Umbrella already but did not recognize BIH was the crown prince (?) cos my focus was all on the queen. Thank you for the recommendations again. I may check Through the Darkness first later on.

I just stared to watch Welcome to Samdalri. It’s better than I expected. I wasn’t the one for that type of genre but WtS is so fun to watch. I watched for Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun but it’s the plot and the directing style that pique me interest. On top of that, the actors are hilarious and know how to crack me up. LOL. But if it’s only a cheesy comedy, I wouldn’t be intrigued. I’m anticipating interesting development evolving around the FL’s “bully scandal.” Cancel culture is so pervasive in the Asian societies like S. Korea and China that has become a cancer to moral and civilization. The writer is brilliant to address this illness with a great sense of humor. I love how the recent Kdramas have invested significantly in the productions related to social issues. They did great jobs through performing art to expose these serious maladies that have been either ignored by public for a long time or are just getting worse. Just name a few examples: The Glory (on campus bully), Extraordinary Attorney Woo (on discrimination), Castaway Diva (on domestic abuse & violence), Anna (on lies and hypocrisy), and now Welcome to Samdalri.

I think decent dramas with meaningful themes can cure my emptiness after watching some crap that was a great waste of time and energy. So far, WtS has been treating me well. LOL

      • @Cahil, really? LOL. He looked so different there. Then his acting ability gets one notch up on my scale. LOL

      • Sorry, it wasn’t him but the one who plays the rôle of his half brother Tae Min .Actor Yoo Sun Ho .

  8. I’m enjoying this drama so far. The ending in every episode is so amazing, very consistent, will leave you with so much anticipation.
I also want to point out the female lead, her eyes are acting! Her eyes alone speak so much emotion. She suits the best for the character best match for Song Kang. No wonder it’s very popular overseas and even got 1 million views in just 1 day with their passionate kiss on ep 8. Their Kiss is really oozing full of passion no awkwardness. Their hand is also acting hahaha. Their handplacement.

  9. with the global success of My Demon, i wish this would be Song Kang new favourite drama. after all, only he and the fl fans have a fond memory of LA. while his fans ignore/ didn’t even bother to translate how he’d mentioned to watch LA numerous time in his recent interviews. so it’s time to move on Kangie. stop mentioning LA anymore. even tho I’m grateful of how he’s always mentioned abt LA, but it’s quite embarrassing to see the reception that his fans especially gave on this drama. they didn’t even bother to share how he’d watched LA so many times in his recent interviews. it just like a clown lol.

  10. Well, I find this show to be addictive. I love the actors. The story line has comedy, drama, suspense, action and sensuality. Basically a good romp and change from school love dramas.
