Production of C-drama Immortality Sends Re-cut Drama for Airing Permit and Believes This Time it Will Pass Because the Drama Has Female Leads for Love Lines

So the word in C-ent is that the production of C-drama Immortality (Hao Yi Xin) adapted from the BL novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun also known as Erha is attempting yet another try for airing approval. This is not a surprise the drama was a S-level production costing millions of dollars in production costs, is done with filming and doesn’t need costly re-shoots since no one in the main cast is cancelled, and leads Chen Fei Yu and Luo Yun Xi remain popular if not even more popular since the drama was filmed 4 years ago in 2020. The original length was 58-episodes but reportedly has been cut to under 40 due to the new requirements and also to re-tool the drama from a BL-wink wink angle to a standard male lead and female lead hetero-romance. The production feels they were lucky among all the other BL-novel adaptations currently on ice such as Winner is King and Guardians of the Land in that Immortality does have two female leads in the story already so it’s easy to edit it to a hetero romance and get approval rather than keeping it romance free while hinting at the BL angle which is what made The Untamed and Word of Honor so popular. At this point the production just wants to air and recoup money and they don’t care about upsetting fans of Erha or the female viewers who love the BL-genre.

    • I really want to watch original…. Maybe they can sell it elsewhere after this is version is broadcasted…Wishful thinking…

Remember Empress of China…there were 3 versions. I have all three. Taiwan’s version was original without the editted shots.

    • I agree they should air drop all episodes like Death kaleidoscope and pull it down an hour latter lol , the c neitzen will download it like the speed of lightning, quit fascinating actually. Am not into BL stuff but I just love the way they copied the whole 78 episodes in that shot amount of time. For once they r being useful than annoying 😆. They should drop all the shows that are in limbo this way, am looking at u the prisoner of beauty.

      • Honestly I think BL fans are prepared for anything after all the mess that happened these few years, with Guardian being taken down after airing and Justice in the Dark not airing after releasing 8 eps out of nowhere. Yeah I agree they should just drop all the problematic shows at once lmao. If everyone does it together the government would have no one to blame xD

      • @lol

Nah they have exact target to blame. The platforms. Let’s say in idealized world where iqiyi, youku, tencent, and mango suddenly band together to drop it, I think he gov would just pressure the platform to take it down or ban the app entirely if they don’t agree . With how it’s going, the platforms can’t risk it, they’re in tight race for subscriber, and lots of other platform like b station are eyeing this

    • LOL. Such a laugh! hahaha. Content creators definitely will benefit the most, like how they milk from the Untamed to woo BL fans.

  1. Let me just say the only thing good coming out of this is more content to cut and paste and make Erha music videos on Bilibili.

  2. I’m just happy if this drama can finally air. Hopefully all the editing wont make it a disappointing watch. I’m just thrilled to see Luo Yunxi in all his costume drama gloriousness along with Chen Fei Yu who I enjoyed in Lighter and Princess. Maybe some day in the distant future all these severely edited dramas will get a director’s cut and the ones stuck in the dungeon will finally see the light of day.

    • Likely, you will watch at least one so you can join in the chats about this drama… even if it is to critise how bad it is…you will watch to decide for yourself.

  3. Interesting, I wonder if it’ll be choppy and how the romance scene will come to play? Did they plan this beforehand as a backup plan since I haven’t read the book? Lol

  4. You can’t cut that much content and have anything decent. Not to mention that fans of this are rabid, good luck with making it a het romance.

I imagine they will drop it and then pull it but overall what a waste of such good source material.

  5. Well since mighty Tencent don’t care( if all this rumor is true..lol)….about the hate they would get, and want to just recuperate the cost of production….This is the first time in history I would agree with Rabbid fans in China to do everything within their power to down this drama(this drama have some really extreme die hearted fans so I do wish them Good luck with attempting this heteo disaster waiting to happen.

The fact is they should be looking to sell the drama overseas for a good price so they can “recuperate their production cost”…And give respect for the original IP which the drama is adapted from…so the drama can air from the first finished edition…Plus what more hetro can it be as this is just Bromance already??…. One of the ML love interest has already changed from man to a woman( which is understandable for censorship reason)…The main two leads like in TU are deciple and teacher so showing a care in the sense of seniority towards the younger, can easily be disguise as such….so I hope they know what they are doing and it’s not an endgame of both leads ending up with a female, worse the villian….omg😱….and say they were decieved or changed…or died showing unending love….omg….remember when they tried this with TU with Wei Wuxian and WenQing and the amount of hate the actress got for it…this time if not done properly….it won’t be pretty….Well let’s wait and see the end result….or if this is true or not….

    • Oh the untamed. When I started watching it, I thought the cp would be with wen qing, since I didn’t know about the source novel at all. The story would fit too, and with how wen qing dies accompanying wen ning, it’s tragic enough to make loveline out of it. So the wen qing part is actually done well. I guess they added it in case the bl plot got bad reception or maybe they know the topic is treading on lines

      • Yes I also had no idea about the novel at the time, and thought Wen Qing fit as a love interests, but also I knew that I was supposed to be on the lookout for attraction between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji…but the original book fans, wasn’t taking that as no storyline like that is in the novel, so production was threatened if they went through with it, the fans would down the drama…which caused production to cut most of that part out, and just deny ever trying to do so…If that had happened maybe it would have turn out fine depending on the end result but then again maybe we also wouldn’t have gotten The Untamed many of us love till today’s date….
Immortality however already have female lead which Moran is stupidity in love with which was changed from a man because of their censorship already….but that doesn’t change the storyline….it makes it even more interesting watching CWN on the sidelines being jealous over Moran being inlove as he should with a young woman his age….
The issue is if they will twerk it more to be just him loving her or another or love triangle with both him and CWN in love with her….and erase all suble BL moments….well that is a disaster waiting to happen…I have read the novel and trust me.. I know what both FL did and they are hardly forgivable…unless they whitewash their crimes so the audience will feel sorrow and pity towards them….at this point I’ll rather not watch it if rumors is true..lol…

  6. For people saying that they should just sell it overseas or release a different version overseas, is that even allowed? I feel like production companies would still get in trouble for trying to go around it like that… but I don’t know what the hard and steadfast rules are either.

    • They can do so only when the drama is released in China first then they can sell the production. But not before… I was told that by someone.

    • Not allowed without a distribution licence in China itself, which means passing the censorship review. So no, they can’t do that.
