New Period C-drama Yongan Dream Premieres on Tencent Starring Ouyang Nana and Xu Zheng Xi

Okay, who let Ouyang Nana act? I legit did a double take that she’s a female lead in a C-drama but a quick look at her wiki reveals she’s done movies and a few C-dramas already, so I must’ve been just lucky to have not encountered any of her prior works lol. This week Tencent premiered a new period C-drama called Yongan Dream starring Ouyang Nana hilariously in top billing position opposite Xu Zheng Xi (Jeremy Tsui) who I wondered if he accepted this role to pay off a mortgage. It’s adapted from a same name novel and my condolences to the writer because Ouyang Nana is most famously known as one of the biggest nepo babies in the industry, her parents are Taiwan veteran actors Ouyang Long and Fu Juan and her aunt is former top Taiwanese singer Ouyang Fei Fei. And despite being from Taiwan, the entire family are massive Mainland China leaning in their politics and cultural preferences being waishengren and often posts pro-CCP and Mainland China statements upsetting basically many in Taiwan. Anyhoo, if she’s actually a good actress then I’ll be damned but from all accounts the parents tried to first push her older sister who didn’t make it and her as the middle sister with classical music training did become popular and now we’re here where she’s trying to make it as a Chinese actress. As for this drama, so far reviews are low to mid and the numbers premiered to a passible buzz and has since dropped.

New Period C-drama Yongan Dream Premieres on Tencent Starring Ouyang Nana and Xu Zheng Xi — 11 Comments

  1. Oh, this came to my radar afew days ago… Xu Zheng Xi is quite a capable actor…but Ouyang Nana, I dont know. Never watched her act before.

Xu Zheng Xi is already 38yrs old…he is still in idol dramas. I dont know if he is really popular in China.

      • He’s handsome, but the amount of makeup they put on him is ridiculous. I don’t know why he keeps getting cast in idol dramas. He has the look that would totally kill as an executive/boss-type character in a sizzling office rom-com opposite a FL who is also a star in her field. Throw in a cute child too so we can see his cute side.

  2. This popped out on my YT. So I chk the opening credits. Jeremy Xu is someone who can act and has screen presence. So far Nana’s styling is cute. But I wouldnt be staying on to watch. Visually I dont feel anythg. I prefer d actress playing FL’s older sister. I thk Nana is best in reality shows playing some music and her cello.

  3. First drama I saw Nana in was a few years ago, she was green, but so was most of the cast so her performance was in line with the role.. I thought she was adequate then and I’m interested to see how she’s matured since. More concerning is the 15 year age gap between ML and FL. Granted they are both adults, but I’m wondering if it would be an uncomfortable watch. Don’t know why Jeremy Tsui who’s a mature, seasoned, talented actor is stuck playing ML in idol type dramas to FLs like Yang Chao Yue and now Ouyang Nana. I can’t help feeling his agency is doing him dirty. At least cast him against mature looking FLs so he doesn’t pass as her uncle!

  4. Jeremy is a talented actor, it’s a pity he never made it big until now. He is the type that can does both antagonist and protagonist well. From YCY to OUNN….sighs….Actually before with YCY, he had a decent drama with Meng ZiYi as ML.

    • I agree. I liked the drama he acted with Meng ZiYi. They are a visual match. I also enjoyed his pairing with Bridgette Qiao in The Autumn Ballad. I feel he is his best with mature actresses not youngsters. I’ve seen him in smaller roles in non-rom com productions and he did very well there. I hope he can explore more non-traditional ML roles.

  5. Back when I still paid attention to c-ent circles, OYNN was regarded the same as YCY in talent and general likability, especially since both transitioned into acting from other fields and seemed to get these opportunities from their backing or fandoms. But unlike YCY, I haven’t heard about OYNN for a while. Would be interested to see if unlike the former she’s improved.

  6. I felt the same about yet another starlet partnering with Jeremy Tsui, but actually she is doing quite a good job so far. This is quite a nice role for Jeremy and he is nailing it. I guess as an actor he has very little influence on the casting and his agency doesn’t seem as aggressive as those of some would-be top billed stars. Maybe he just doesn’t care as long as he has fun with the role. He generally does very little to “sell” himself, his social media accounts sometimes remain silent for week. I actually much prefer this to the professional media-whores who have to dance in every reality show just to be seen.
